The story of two teenage girls growing up on Cape Cod and realising that their father is in a relationship with another man, Wild About Harry is a very personal story to its co-writer and director, Gwen Wynne, who based it on her own life. Starring Tate Donovan and Adam Pascal as the couple, with Danielle Savre and Skye McCole Bartusiak as the daughters, it has also been a labour of love, as she was up against a reluctant establishment when it was first made, and although it enjoyed success on the festival circuit (under the title American Primitive), it has taken over a decade to get a proper cinema release. When I meet up with Gwen, she tells me that the story began even earlier.

First screened in 2009 under the title American Primitive, this very personal family story, based on writer/director Gwen Wynne’s own life, seems innocent and heart-warming today but was seriously challenging in its time, and focuses on a period where the controversy it addresses was still more so. It follows sisters Madeline (Danielle Savre) and Daisy (Skye McCole Bartusiak) as they move into a new home on Cape Cod with their father, the titular Harry (Tate Donovan). Having lost their mother, they are deeply uncomfortable about the idea of him getting into a new romantic relationship, and spend their time fending off would-be matchmakers, but life grows much more complicated when Madeline realises that in fact her father has already found a new love – his business partner, Mr Gibbs (Adam Pascal).

The last time Logan Lerman, 28, starred on a television show was 15 years ago on the WB’s “Jack & Bobby.”
He made his return earlier this year with “Hunters,” playing a young man in New York City in 1979 who joins an underground group of Nazi hunters led by a Holocaust survivor (Al Pacino).
“I was really scared about the commitment so there was nothing that I was interested in for a long time just because you have to sign on for five, six years,” Lerman says on Tuesday’s episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket.” “I’ve been approached for other projects in the past, but nothing seemed like anything that I wanted to commit that much time to.”
But “Hunters” was different. “It just felt right,” Lerman said. “I liked where it was set up, too. It was at Amazon and I like that platform.

This reviewer has little doubt that director Tim T. Cunningham will no longer be a fan of 28Dla after reading this review. Sick Boy is Cunningham's indie production that was developed for under $50K, over the course of thirteen days. The loss of a set late in the shooting schedule prevented some reshooting and the development of some scenes. So, Sick Boy sometimes comes across as lackluster. The pacing has no sense of timing or impetus to move forward. Meanwhile, the protagonist, Lucy, is underdeveloped and actress Skye McCole Bartusiak is unable to carry the material to its full potential. Sick Boy is a disappointing outing, which only finds itself when it is too late and the final credits are set to roll.

An uncommon level of talent (including Sam Raimi as producer) is associated with this relatively subtle, low-key horror movie, but that doesn't prevent "Boogeyman" from succumbing to the same deadly fate as many of its characters. Although the film attempts to ape the psychological complexity of many of the recent Japanese entries in the genre, it suffers from a lack of genuine chills or suspense that renders its slight virtues rather moot. The film, which opened Friday sans press screenings, should, by sheer dint of its title, attract a decent number of horror fans before succumbing to the video bins.
Barry Watson of TV's "7th Heaven" plays the central role of Tim, a troubled young man whose psyche was understandably scarred when, as a child, he witnessed his father violently sucked into his closet by the boogeyman, never to be seen again. Now, Tim takes highly understandable precautions, including placing his bed directly on the floor and keeping his house free of closets.
Unfortunately, when his mother (Lucy Lawless) dies and he returns to his forbidding family home in the country, Tim, on the rather dubious advice of a shrink, stays overnight in his old house in order to confront his childhood demons. There, along with a young girl Skye McCole Bartusiak) who had apparently disappeared many years ago, Tim finds himself in a deadly battle with a malevolent force that may or may not be merely a figment of his imagination.
Director Stephen Kay ("Get Carter") manages to sustain the requisite level of tension, infusing the proceedings with the usual procession of aural and visual stock devices designed to wake the audience from their peaceful slumber. The empty-headed screenplay, which took three people to write, never rises above the level of cliche, and the best that can be said for the enterprise is that it lacks the gratuitous gore and nudity so prevalent to the genre. A more cynical explanation may be that they were just looking to maximize business with a PG-13 rating.
