The evening raised more than $500,000, which included $100,000 from O’Donnell.
The 3 1/2 hour show, produced by O’Donnell and “Madame Secretary” star Erich Bergen, was broadcast live on Broadway.com and the website’s YouTube channel.
She opened the show by explaining she was hosting from her garage/art studio in New Jersey and then introduced her former musical director John McDaniel.
She also insisted she didn’t want to talk about President Donald Trump because she wanted to focus on people getting through the pandemic. “We’re going to come through it,” O’Donnell said.

The evening was directed by Carl Andress with choreography by Nathan Peck, based on original choreography by Marcos Santana. Grammy Award and Emmy Award-winner John McDaniel wrote new orchestrations for the score and served at the evening's music director, conducting a 28 piece on stage orchestra.

The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center honored multi-discipline creative artist Lin-Manuel Miranda with the 18th Monte Cristo Award, last week at a private dinner at the Edison Ballroom in New York City.
An alumnus of the O’Neill, Miranda’s first professional production was at the O’Neill’s National Music Theater Conference with In The Heights in 2005. The gala dinner featured a conversation with the honoree and raised $575,000 to support the Center’s commitment to developing new work and new artists for the stage.
The O’Neill annually bestows its Monte Cristo Award on a prominent theater artist whose work has had an extraordinary impact on American theater, in memory of its namesake.

Freedman died Feb. 17 of breast cancer in her New York home, where she was surrounded by friends and family, her company announced.

Well, The Rosie Show started on Own, and it’s…fine. It’s just…fine. It’s basically the same thing that The Rosie O’Donnell Show was a decade ago, except no John McD (remember John McD?). But the humor remains the same, which makes it feel a tad, er, creaky? For example, she had Russell Brand on her inaugural show, which is a good decision since he is someone everyone knows about. But Rosie managed to make things weird when she called him — in a video package — her “new Tommy.” And it’s like, yyyyyyyeah, we’ve kind of done that already, Rosie. Ever since you came out as a loud and proud lez, shaved your head, and did everything but clobber Elisabeth Hasselbeck on The View (why didn’t you do it?), we realize New Rosie is the definitely not same Rosie who was once fielding softball...

(Ps Classics) on Monday, June 1 at 7pm. Composer/pianist/Emmy winner John McDaniel will serve as Musical Director for the evening, with Tom Hubbard on bass, Rich Mercurio on drums, Peter Sachon on cello and special guest (and Amour co-star) Melissa Errico, who will duet with Gets.

The masterful work of Gilbert and Sullivan returns to the Huntington Theatre Company stage for the conclusion of its 2008-2009 Season. Pirates! (or, Gilbert and Sullivan Plunder'd) transports the action of The Pirates of Penzance, the classic operetta about a Pirate King and his motley band; a dutiful pirate apprentice and his nurse; a modern Major-General and his virgin wards; and a Sergeant of Police and his skittish force to the Caribbean in a raucous and rowdy update complete with swordfights, sex appeal, and Sullivan's original music. Gordon Greenberg (Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris), Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde, the Musical), and John McDaniel ("The Rosie O'Donnell Show") co-conceived the adaptation.

Emmy and Tony Award winner Tyne Daly, most recently on Broadway in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rabbit Hole, will preview her upcoming cabaret evening on Sunday, April 26, as a benefit for Abingdon Theatre Company. Joined by musical director/accompanist John McDaniel, this special performance will precede her debut May 12-16 at Feinstein's at Loews Regency. The demand for tickets have left only a few remaining for her first cabaret performance.
