When Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac, they became one of two couples in the band. By the time they were working on their second album with the band, both couples had broken up. Their emotional turmoil provided rich fodder for the band’s magnum opus, Rumours. It also stretched them all to their limits. Despite this, Buckingham said things would have been worse if the couple stayed together.
Lindsey Buckingham said it was for the best that he and Stevie Nicks broke up
In the lead up to the release of Rumours, John and Christine McVie divorced and Nicks and Buckingham broke up after years together. The breakup rattled the band, but Buckingham thought it would have been worse if both couples stayed together.

Arguably the best new American drama since Annie Baker’s The Flick, David Adjmi’s Stereophonic shares both a hyper-naturalistic style and a sprawling three-hour running time with that 2013 masterwork. But the similarities end there. Chronicling a turbulent year in California recording studios during which a fictional 1970s rock band labors over the follow-up to their breakthrough album, this is an immersive plunge into the fraught process of artistic collaboration as pressures mount and interpersonal harmony dissolves into acrimony.
Funny, raw and poignant in equal measure, this expertly sculpted play has the feel of both a behind-the-music docudrama and a lost Robert Altman film, with its astute microcosmic focus, its frequent wash of overlapping dialogue and its sly nudges toward satire. In fact, while the music — fabulous original songs written by Will Butler, formerly of Arcade Fire — is pop-rock rather than country, Stereophonic could almost be an expanded vignette lifted right out of Nashville.

If you’re lucky enough to have a physical copy of Taylor Swift’s new album on release day, you can hear it kick off with a Stevie Nicks poem.
Dated August 13, 2023 in Austin, Texas, and featuring the charming note “For T — and me,” the poem reads like a stunning precursor to The Tortured Poets Department, with lines like “She looked back from her future/And shed a few tears/He looked into his past/And actually felt fear.”

In 1979, Fleetwood Mac released Tusk, an experimental album that was a stark departure from Rumours. The album was not as commercially successful as its predecessor and, while critics liked it, they didn’t think it stacked up to the band’s 1977 magnum opus. Still, it drew some comparisons to The Beatles. Some critics didn’t use the comparison as a compliment, though.
Critics compared a ‘Fleetwood Mac’ album to The Beatles
The stormy dynamic that hung heavy over the Rumours recording sessions followed Fleetwood Mac into the studio as they worked on Tusk. Lindsey Buckingham seized creative control and his bandmate’s songs didn’t fit all that snugly into his vision. As a result, the album sounded like a mismatched collection of songs instead of a cohesive whole. This quality, some critics said, evoked The Beatles’ White Album.
“[F]leetwood Mac‘s Tusk represents both the last word in lavish...

From the start of Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé makes it clear this ain’t your typical country album. Opening epic “Ameriican Requiem” is part gospel, part-Queen, part-Buffalo Springfield as the artist lays out both her intentions and lineage. “Used to say I spoke ‘Too country’/And the rejection came, said I wasn’t ‘country ‘nough’/Said I wouldn’t saddle up/But if that ain’t country, tell me what is?” she sings from the gut, after listing off her bona fide country credentials.

Christine McVie’s estate and Pat Benatar have both closed deals to sell rights to their music to the acquisition firm HarbourView Equity Partners, the company tells Rolling Stone.
McVie’s estate has sold her stake in Fleetwood Mac’s recorded music, which includes shares in hits like the McVie-sung tracks “Songbird” and “Say You Love Me,” along with other band staples “Go Your Own Way,” “The Chain” and “Dreams.” Benatar — as well as her longtime musical partner and husband Neil Giraldo — sold an unspecified stake in both their recorded music and publishing rights.

Stevie Nicks is elaborating on why Prime Video hit Daisy Jones & The Six had her feeling “like a ghost watching my own story.”
In a new interview with Vulture, the Fleetwood Mac singer discussed how the show’s stars Riley Keough and Sam Claflin captured the essence of her creative relationship with fellow Fleetwood Mac member Lindsey Buckingham. The interview follows Nicks tweeting her response to the show, which was adapted from Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel, while watching the series back in August. Reid has previously said that she pulled from several ’70s bands for inspiration, including Fleetwood Mac.
While discussing the eerie similarities between her own life and what she was seeing onscreen, Nicks pointed to one specific element of Keough and Claflin’s dynamic as the biggest reason why she saw herself in their relationship.

Fleetwood Mac have unveiled Rumours Live, a live album taken from a concert the band performed at The Forum in Los Angeles in 1977. The record is out today, September 8th, via Rhino. Stream it in full below.
Rumours Live was recorded when Fleetwood Mac were at a zenith of their success. Rumours, their seminal album from February 1977, was No. 1 on the US Billboard 200, and the band was wrapping up its support tour. They rolled into Los Angeles for three shows at The Forum — the one that would go on to become Rumours Live was held on August 29th, 1977, performed to a crowd of nearly 20,000 fans. The set was recorded by engineer Ken Caillat using a mobile recording truck owned by the Recording Plant, the studio where the band recorded most of Rumours itself.

Earlier this year, the Prime Video streaming service released the ten episode series Daisy Jones & The Six (watch it Here), based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid – a novel that was partially inspired by the complicated issues Fleetwood Mac band members Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks dealt with behind the scenes. It isn’t directly the Fleetwood Mac story, but comparisons are unavoidable. And now Nicks has taken to social media to share what she thought of the Prime series. In short, she loved it!

Stevie Nicks is sharing her praise for Daisy Jones & The Six, months after the Emmy-nominated series premiered.
Though author Taylor Jenkins Reid, who wrote the book that the Prime Video series was adapted from, has previously said the novel is not strictly based on Fleetwood Mac, she has admitted that she drew inspiration from the renowned rock band. During an interview with Penguin Books UK in 2019, Reid said she “started with the germ of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac,” but also researched many other ‘70s singers and bands.
Even before the show’s release, fans have been quick to point out parallels between Fleetwood Mac and Daisy Jones & The Six, including each of the band’s members and romantic pairings. Particularly, similarities were noted between Nicks and Daisy Jones (Riley Keough), as well as keyboardist Christine McVie and Karen Sirko (Suki Waterhouse). Now, Nicks has taken to...

On what would have been Christine McVie’s 80th birthday Wednesday, Rhino has shared the Fleetwood Mac legend’s unreleased “Little Darlin’,” a track recorded during the sessions for her 2004 solo LP In the Meantime.
Rhino will reissue both McVie’s 1984 self-titled album and In the Meantime on November 3, with the latter being released on vinyl for the first time, complete with a new mix overseen by McVie’s collaborator on the album, her nephew Dan Perfect.

Offset and Quavo reunited for a surprise performance to honor their late groupmate, Takeoff, who was fatally shot on Nov. 1 in Houston, Texas, with a touching tribute during this year’s BET Awards.
The duo performed together for the first time since they disbanded their hip-hop trio, Migos, after releasing their fourth and final studio album Culture III in 2021. When the awards show returned from a commercial break, a curtain raised on a darkened stage with two shadowed figures emerging: Quavo and Offset, standing before an image of the Space Shuttle. As a recording of Takeoff’s verse on the song “Hotel Lobby” began, the space shuttle took off and the pair launched into the group’s biggest hit, “Bad & Boujee.”

By 2012, Fleetwood Mac hadn’t released an album in years, something Lindsey Buckingham blamed on Stevie Nicks. The band was working without Christine McVie, but Buckingham felt it was time to put out a new record. Nicks resisted, though. According to Buckingham, she felt intimidated by the quality of the music. Her hesitation to write new songs ultimately caused the project to fall apart.
Lindsey Buckingham said Stevie Nicks resisted making a new Fleetwood Mac album
As Fleetwood Mac geared up to tour, Buckingham started itching to put out a new album. Their last album with new material was 2003’s Say You Will. He felt it had been too long and began working on new music.
“It would have been really appropriate at this point,” he told Rolling Stone. “Stevie wasn’t really into doing it. She wasn’t into it at all. But I went ahead and got John...

In 1979, Fleetwood Mac released Tusk, and, in the album’s aftermath, Christine McVie said Mick Fleetwood sank to the lowest point of his life. The band’s drummer had served as the glue holding them together for years. By the early 1980s, though, his personal life was as plagued with problems as the band’s dynamic had been in the Rumours era. McVie explained that his problems appeared to shrink him.
Christine McVie said Mick Fleetwood struggled in the time after ‘Tusk’
Fleetwood’s problems began after the Tusk tour. He had been serving as the band’s manager, but exorbitant spending on the tour left the group with significantly less money than they expected. As a result, his bandmates fired him from the position.
From there, Fleetwood made a series of questionable financial decisions. He bought a home in Los Angeles and a 1000-acre farm in Australia. Eventually, he declared bankruptcy.

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham had a tumultuous relationship while with Fleetwood Mac. The American duo joined Fleetwood Mac as a couple, but their on-and-off romantic relationship led to many tense recording sessions with the band. One song on Rumours saw the pair going at it while the microphones were off, but they managed to halt their insults to record the song.
Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham kept insulting each other while recording ‘You Make Loving Fun’
While Rumours is Fleetwood Mac’s most acclaimed and most successful album, it is riddled with stories of behind-the-scenes drama, especially with Nicks and Buckingham. At one point, the pair were a package deal. When Mick Fleetwood asked Buckingham to join Fleetwood Mac, he refused unless Nicks could also join.
After their relationship deteriorated, they were still able to create excellent music, but their rocky relationship made it hard for them to be in the same room.

When Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac, he helped the group find unprecedented success but also opened them up to drama. Buckingham and then-girlfriend Stevie Nicks increased the band’s star power. Their tumultuous relationship also nearly broke the band apart. They weren’t the only ones causing problems, though. According to Buckingham, nobody was ever on the same page. He shared how he thought this made them the opposite of the Eagles.
Lindsey Buckingham said Fleetwood Mac was the opposite of the Eagles
Fleetwood Mac was an incredibly successful band in spite of their personal drama. They broke up with each other, had affairs, consumed copious amounts of drugs and alcohol, and fought over their music. Buckingham said they were rarely on the same page, even after years of working together.
“[T]hings change, and that’s a part of Fleetwood Mac,” he told Rolling Stone in 2012. “We’re a moving target.

The Beatles and The Beach Boys had a relationship of love and respect, even if the two were musical rivals during the 1960s. Their competitive spirits fueled their music, as one band tried to one-up the other whenever they released new projects. Brian Wilson was a fan of The Beatles but was frustrated when they achieved certain musical moments before he did. One album by the band made Wilson break down in tears when he heard it for the first time.

In 1964, The Beatles made their first trip to the U.S., where Americans showed up in droves to see them, sending Beatlemania into the stratosphere. While working on Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham ended their years-long romantic relationship. Their relationship had been rocky for a while, and the breakup did little to improve their dynamic. Even years after the split, the couple continued to bicker. In 1997, roughly two decades after their breakup, Buckingham tentatively speculated about a reunion between himself and Nicks. Given her reaction, though, it’s not surprising that they didn’t get back together.
Lindsey Buckingham wondered about the possibility of a reunion with Stevie Nicks
On Fleetwood Mac’s 1997 tour, Nicks gave a bewitching performance of “Silver Springs,” a song about her relationship with Buckingham. As she sang, she stared down her former partner, who found it hard not to feel moved by her performance.

My Morning Jacket made their latest appearance at Bonnaroo another memorable one when they debuted a cover of Kate Bush’s resurgent hit “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)” during their late night performance on Saturday.
Providing their own spin on the song with galloping guitars and Jim James’ passionate vocals standing in contrast to Bush’s more delicate delivery, Mmj added a cover to their repertoire well worth playing again. Watch the performance below.
Mmj also debuted their take on Traffic’s “Feelin’ Alright?” and paid tribute to late Fleetwood Mac keyboardist/vocalist Christine McVie when James weaved in lyrics from “Songbird” into “Phone Went West” from their 2001 sophomore album, At Dawn. Check out the setlist for their nearly three-hour performance below.
“Running Up That Hill” saw a massive surge in renewed interest last year after a prominent placement in Stranger Things Season 4. In addition to achieving a new peak of No.

It’s no secret that Fleetwood Mac had their share of problems behind the scenes. Many of these issues revolved around the relationships between the bandmates. However, sometimes the band would have creative disagreements. Stevie Nicks was at odds with the rest of Fleetwood Mac over “Dreams”, a song that later became one of their biggest hits.
Stevie Nicks pleaded with Fleetwood Mac to record ‘Dreams’
“Dreams” is a 1977 Fleetwood Mac song written by Stevie Nicks and released on their album Rumours. It’s one of the band’s most popular songs and remains relevant today, as it recently went viral thanks to a fantastic video involving skateboarding and cranberry juice.
Nicks wrote “Dreams” at a recording session for Rumours. In a 2005 interview with Blender, the singer said she wrote the song in “about 10 minutes” around a minimal set of chords.

Working with Fleetwood Mac during the Rumours era was not easy, and Lindsey Buckingham’s temper made things even harder. The band dynamics were in disarray, and their drug use was ramping up. Producer Ken Caillat said his job became even more complicated when Buckingham physically attacked him. He shared how following Buckingham’s demands landed him in a dangerous position.

While recording “You Make Loving Fun,” Caillat said Buckingham worked to get in an “aggressive place.” He believed this would make his playing better. While it might have, it also made him a challenge to be around.
“So, we started recording over our least favorite tracks,” Caillat wrote in his book Making Rumours: The Inside Story of the Classic Fleetwood Mac Album. “Things got hot and heavy as he got into his guitar solo.

Stevie Nicks made many well-loved music videos with Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist. When looking back on some of them, though, she can’t help but cringe. Some remind her of the messy relationship dynamics she had with her bandmates. Others are tough to watch because of the reminder of the drugs she was using at the time. She explained that the video for “I Can’t Wait” makes her furious with her past self.

When Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac at the end of 1974, the group set off on a path that made them one of the most commercially successful bands in the world. Nicks and Buckingham’s influence on the group cannot be understated. Their songwriting, vocals, and overall musical talent fit in with the band but also transformed it. It’s hard to imagine the band without them.

Fleetwood Mac’s magnum opus Rumours featured songs about the real-life breakups of songwriters Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, and Christine McVie. The band was at the top of their game musically, but their personal lives were in flames, which the album reflected. For this reason, they faced some difficulties in the studio. There was one song Buckingham found particularly difficult to sing, but it wasn’t because he was mourning the breakdown of his relationship with Nicks.

In 1994, Fleetwood Mac set out on tour without the presence of key members Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham. While they would eventually rejoin the group, they had all stepped away. In their absence, Mick Fleetwood hired replacements. McVie spoke to Nicks’ replacement and told her that she was behaving honorably. Here’s why.

After many tumultuous years with Fleetwood Mac, Nicks, McVie, and Buckingham opted out of the 1994 tour. While they had reunited for Bill Clinton’s inauguration in 1993, Nicks and Buckingham had quit the band, and McVie no longer wanted to tour. Still, Fleetwood was dedicated to the group and wanted to continue to perform. In order to do so, though, he had to hire new members.
Fleetwood and bassist John McVie hired Dave Mason, Billy Burnette, and Bekka Bramlett.

While The Beach Boys did have a slight rivalry with The Beatles during the 1960s, Brian Wilson’s inspiration for “God Only Knows” came to him after listening to a Beatles album that profoundly impacted him.
