Stars: Dermot Mulroney, Melissa Diaz, Mauricio Mendoza, Tonantzin Esparza, Rafael Cabrera, Jeff Fahey | Written by Art Camacho, James Dean Simington, Javier Reyna, Koji Steven Sakai | Directed by Art Camacho
With ten movies and five episodes of TV shows to his credit for 2023, Dermot Mulroney seems to be vying to fill the gap left by the retirement of Bruce Willis. Ruthless proves he’s already mastered sleepwalking through a film every bit as well as he could. Sadly, he won’t be the only one sleeping as this film manages to make human trafficking deadly, deadly dull, that is.
Harry just wanted to go watch a movie. But he ends up telling off some kid who isn’t listening when his date says no. That, of course, leads to the kid pulling a knife on him in the parking lot. That’s not a good idea because Harry is a man...

"Pick your fights, Harry!" "I will." Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for Ruthless, another action crime thriller from the direct-to-video trash pile getting a release this year. Ruthless is the latest film from director Art Camacho, and it's yet another of these "one man will fight to stop a trafficking ring" stories that are being used over-and-over these days. Not at all original, and not really an interesting premise anymore beyond making people endlessly fearful and worried. Also similar to the original Taken. In Ruthless, a high school coach, whose teenage daughter was murdered, takes matters into his own hands and going after the men who kidnap his student as part of a human trafficking operation. Dermot Mulroney stars as Harry, along with Jeff Fahey, Melissa Diaz, Mauricio Mendoza, Tonantzin Esparza, and Niko Foster. I will admit, Mulroney does look badass in this being so burn-it-all-down ruthless in here.

"You promised to keep us safe. You didn't." Saban Films has launched an official trailer for another of these junk action thrillers called Shrapnel, on VOD to watch in late July. This is the third film out this year from a filmmaker you've never heard of named William Kaufman - his other two are The Channel and Warhorse One. None of these films do anything unique or different. In this one, when Sean's daughter goes missing on the Mexican border, he teams up with his former Marine partner to face off against the Mexican cartel that kidnapped her. Oh, how original. The film stars Jason Patric as Sean, with Cam Gigandet, Kesia Elwin, Mauricio Mendoza, and Guillermo Iván. This looks so boring and so dumb. "Whether she's alive or not, nobody's gettin' out of there." Does anyone even watch these movies? Please don't waste any time or money. // Continue Reading...

"There are no good people in there - no saints, only sinners." Lionsgate has released an official trailer for an action thriller titled Seized, the latest from B-movie action filmmaker Isaac Florentine (who also made Acts of Vengeance with Adkins). Mma action star Scott Adkins plays a former Special Forces agent whose son is kidnapped and must now wipe out three dangerous crime syndicates if he wants to see him alive again. Adkins has been starring in endless action movies recently, none of them worth watching, but he still keeps making them - he's also in Debt Collectors and Legacy of Lies this year. Seized also features Mario Van Peebles with a killer cowboy hat, Steven Elder, Karlee Perez, James P. Bennett, David Fernandez Jr., Luis Gatica, and Mauricio Mendoza. Another day, another mindless bland action movie to ignore. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Isaac Florentine's Seized, direct from...

Not to be confused with the 2013 film of the same name, which was pulled from Tesco shelves after customer complaints over its graphic sex and violence, this iteration of The Hospital is actually a retitling of 2015′s The Linda Vista Project from director John (J.J.) Rogers – who has worked behind the scenes on numerous Dtv horror flicks previously, however this marks his directorial debut in the genre.
[Sidenote: The Hospital was also touted as a possible supermarket-friendly title for the UK release of Dustin Mills' The Ballad of Skinless Pete, at least until the UK distributor, now a favourite with genre fans, reneged on the contract and the film never saw the light of day]
The Hospital follows paranormal researcher Emily Strand (Whitney Anderson; Zombie Strippers, Toolbox Murders 2), who is given a chance to prove the existence of the supernatural at the now derelict Linda Vista Hospital. Rumours and claims of spectral activity have surrounded the former hospital since it was first built...
