- Louis Mercanton was born on May 4, 1879 in Nyon, Switzerland. He was a director and writer, known for Oh! Ce baiser! (1917), Suzanne (1916) and Vénus (1929). He died on April 29, 1932 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine, France.

- Educated in England. Made his theatrical acting debut in South Africa in 1904. Returned to England as stage manager for Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree. In 1911, became artistic director of the Anglo-French society L'eclipse. Had a successful career as a director during the 1910's and 20's, beginning with four films which starred the celebrated stage actress Sarah Bernhardt.
