Fitting in has never been easy for Josh Waaka (Julian Dennison) as a Brown young man in an almost all-white New Zealand Christian school. Things were easier for his father (now deceased) and older brother Jamie (James Rolleston) when they were rugby stars who helped it lift championship trophies. And if anyone knows anything about private institutions such as this, they take care of their own as long as their “own” have earned it by doing the same. That’s not to say Jamie and their dad were cowards or traitors or anything like that––they were rugby players who loved the game amidst influential people who loved it too. Josh was just thrown in as a package deal.

“We all have our stories; they aren’t there to pull us down, they’re there to push us forward.” This is a quote from filmmakers Paul Middleditch and Hamish Bennett, who co-directed “Uproar.” Often, we push forward by reflecting on our own lives, taking in the world around us, and attempting to understand the human condition. It is clear that the filmmakers are both artists that does just that, as is evident from their new film.

This has been an unusually strong year for star-studded horror comedies, most notably Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant.s Hell Baby, Jacob Vaughn.s Bad Milo, and even Jonathan Levine.s Warm Bodies and Paul Middleditch.s Rapture-Palooza. Hollywood.s biggest and brightest are no longer so wary of starring in flicks that mix scares with the laughter. Xyz Films. Riding my rapture high from seeing This Is The End last night, I woke up this morning and decided to check out a lesser-known apocalyptic comedy released this weekend called Rapture-Palooza. Penned by Chris Matheson, the bodacious dude who wrote Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and directed by Paul Middleditch, I didn’t really know what to expect, but the cast of comedic talent attached settled my nerves before the watch. I mean you’ve got Craig Robinson, Thomas Lennon, Rob Corddry, Ken Jeong, Rob Huebel, Anna Kendrick *drools on keyboard*, and Paul Scheer, so a decent amount of laughs were expected – but unfortunately not achieved.
Rapture-Palooza tells the story of Ben (John Francis Daley) and Lindsey (Anna Kendrick), a young couple just trying to survive God’s rapture. While those rightious enough were granted amnesty from the ordeal by being accepted to heaven, modern day heathens like Ben and...

If you're going to commit to a blasphemous stoner comedy mocking the New Testament prophesy of the coming Rapture, you'd better go all in. Because halfway isn't funny. And either way, you're going to Hell. At least in the eyes of some.
Thus, the failed deadpan comedy "Rapture-Palooza" pairs up a seriously unflappable Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley as survivors on Earth, not taken by the Rapture, trying to fend off the amorous advances of the Anti-Christ played by Craig Robinson. And it isn't as funny as it sounds.
Sure, taking the Bible literally ("Did anyone think this Through?") in regard to the apocalypse can seem awfully silly in the age of computer-generated effects. The righteous are "sucked up into heaven" in a flash -- empty bowling shoes are all that's Left Behind ... in the bowling alley. Where's Kirk Cameron to explain all this?
Thus are the poor sinners...

Title: Rapture-Palooza Director: Paul Middleditch Starring: Craig Robinson, Anna Kendrick, John Francis Daley, Rob Corddry, Ana Gasteyer, John Michael Higgins, Rob Huebel, Thomas Lennon, Ken Jeong, Paul Scheer, Tyler Labine, Calum Worthy The idea of an Earth-bound fistfight between a foul-mouthed God and equally lewd Satan, complete with shots to the groin, sounds anarchic and wild. And certainly the participation of the roster of comedically gifted talents listed above inspires some level of buzzy expectation. But in a post-”South Park” world, lazy execution of a ribald, potentially controversial concept will not suffice — especially not when the apocalypse is being handled with much more wit, vim and verve just across the megaplex, in the form of [ Read More ]

2013 seems to be the year of end-of-the-world comedies, and while that may be a sure sign of the end times at least we’ll go out laughing. Edgar Wright’s The World’s End opens later this summer, the very funny This Is the End hits theaters next week, and the even better It’s a Disaster was just released on Blu-ray/DVD. It really is a fine time for fans of the apocalypse. The fourth entry (or second if you’re going chronologically) is Paul Middleditch‘s Rapture-Palooza. Lindsey (Anna Kendrick) and Ben (John Francis Daley) are young and in love, but unlike the billion or more young couples that came before them these two are seeing their romance blossom amidst the events foretold in the Book of Revelation. The undead roam the streets, foul-mouthed locusts and crows berate the survivors, and occasionally large, flaming rocks fall from the sky to crush food carts. As...

Leave it to Craig Robinson to face the apocalypse twice in one month. Although he'll be playing himself as a hapless victim of the whole affair in next week's This is the End , this Friday sees the Peeples and "The Office" star playing the biggest bad himself, starring as "The Beast" in this Friday's Rapture-Palooza . Also starring Anna Kendrick, John Francis Daley, Rob Corddry, Ana Gasteyer, John Michael Higgins, Rob Huebel, Tom Lennon, Ken Jeong, Paul Scheer, Mike O.Connell, Adrianna Costa, Jesse Camacho, Calum Worthy and Tyler Labine, the Rapture-Palooza features a script by Chris Matheson and is directed by Paul Middleditch. Apparently, heaven's clerks do indeed keep track of who goes to church on Sunday, because when the Rapture comes, Lindsey (Anna Kendrick) and her boyfriend, Ben (John Francis Daley), fail to rise. They take the news pretty well, but then the torments begin, which include skies that rain blood, crows that cuss you out as you pass by, and the emergence of the Antichrist (Craig Robinson), who wants to marry Lindsey and raise a family of little beasts. Always amusing, if never screamingly funny (there are worse things), this zippy little flick from director Paul Middleditch and writer Chris Matheson (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure) should please those who own Shaun of the Dead on Blu-ray, and can quote one-liners from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (the novel, ...

Check out four clips from Paul Middleditch’s “Rapture-Palooza”, which proves that just because it’s the end of the world, there’s no reason to go sulking about it. Take the lovebirds of the movie, played by the girl from “Pitch Perfect” and the guy from the TV show “Bones”. There are foul-mouthed crows and annoying locusts to deal with, not to mention fiery meteorites from the sky, but at least they still have each other. That’s cool. When the Apocalypse actually happens and a billion people are raptured up to heaven, Lindsey and her boyfriend Ben are left behind in suburban Seattle. The young couple tries their best to lead a normal life surrounded by talking locusts, blood rain showers and pot-smoking wraiths. Because as everyone knows, the easiest way to take down the Anti-Christ is to wear a tight little white dress and seduce him, and when he’s all ready to jump your bones, you knife him in the ass. Or wherever you can get the knife into him. That’s apparently the plan in Paul Middleditch’s “Rapture-Palooza”, which stars Anna Kendrick as the hottie in white and Craig Robinson as the horny Anti-Christ. That kid from the TV show “Bones” plays the boyfriend. Check out a new trailer and poster for the film below. The movie hits theaters and VOD at the same time on June 7, 2013. The above poster came straight from iTunes Movie Trailers, so we are fairly certain that it wasn.t just the work of a bored teenager wasting his time with Photoshop instead of cleaning his room. Paul Middleditch.s upcoming dark comedy Rapture-Palooza looks absolutely amazing, full of absurdist humor and surreal situations. In a year strangely full of post-apocalyptic comedies . such as the .Seth Rogen .n. Friends. flick This is the End and Edgar Wright.s The World.s End - Rapture-Palooza.s red band trailer put it out in front as far as zany subject matter. So why does this poster read 1992 direct-to-video? Finally, after two separate red-band trailers, an official piece of artwork for Paul Middleditch’s horror comedy Rapture-Palooza has arrived, and given the subject matter, it's painfully generic! Look for the flick from Lionsgate in limited theaters and on VOD platforms June 7th.
Anna Kendrick, John Francis Daley, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Ken Jeong star.
The film is best described as Zombieland meets The Big Lebowski, and in the flick a couple battle their way through a religious apocalypse on a mission to defeat the Antichrist.

Hollywood is ragin’ on the apocalypse at the moment. This year has already seen the effects of the end of the world in the sci-fi bleakscape Oblivion and This Is The End, The World’s End, After Earth and Elysium will bust further blocks later this summer. One flick tackling the same subject that may have escaped your attention however is Rapture-Palooza. Flying low on the cinematic radar, the horror comedy has its first red band trailer online, along with a new poster.
Written by the chap behind both Bill & Teds, Chris Matheson, and directed by Paul Middleditch, Rapture-Palooza has a cast that exceeds expectation for a little genre romp. The film boasts a terrific leading cast, and after catching the first red-band trailer earlier in the year, Yahoo Movies have debuted the film’s first poster, with Kendrick and Robinson front and centre.

Here's another fun red-band trailer for Anna Kendrick's new film Rapture-Palooza, which comes from the mind of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure screenwriter Chris Matheson. Los Angeles, April 19 (Reuters) - The end of the world once again comes to Hollywood's big screens this summer, with movies ranging from big-budget action adventures to indie comedies putting their twist on the apocalypse.
Earth is annihilated after aliens destroy the moon, giant robots battle monsters, and in a comedy take on the biblical rapture, mortals are left behind to deal with atheists and spirits.
"Oblivion," starring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, starts the trend on Friday. Made on an estimated budget of $120 million and set in 2077, it follows the last humans as they prepare to find a new home on another planet.
"There's an innate fascination with thinking about what life would be like after we're gone," the film's director, Joseph Kosinski, told Reuters.
"Oblivion" will be followed in June and July by M. Night Shyamalan's "After Earth," starring Will Smith, all-star comedy "This is the End,...

Check out the crude new trailer for upcoming comedy "Rapturepalooza," starring Anna Kendrick as a young woman who gets left behind in suburban Seattle when the Apocalypse strikes and raptures a billion people up to heaven. Things get awkward when the Anti-Christ (Craig Robinson) moves into the neighborhood and develops a major crush on Kendrick's booty. The trailer is Nsfw, due to voluminous use of the F-word. John Francis Day, Rob Corddry, Thomas Lennon and Ken Jeong also star. Paul Middleditch directs from a script by Chris Matheson ("Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure"). The Lionsgate film hits theaters and VOD on May 10.

Check out this funny first trailer for a new film called Rapturepalooza which stars Anna Kendrick and Craig Robinson. There's two teens that set out on a journey to battle their way through the apocalypse on a mission to defeat the Antichrist who's trying to take over the world. The movie actually looks like it could be a pretty entertaining comedy.
The movie was directed by Paul Middleditch (Separation City) from a script written by Chris Matheson (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure). It's set to be released sometime this year, and it also stars John Francis Daley, Rob Corddry, Ken Jeong, Ana Gasteyer, Rob Huebel, and Paul Scheer. Check out the trailer!

With an absolutely stellar leading comedic cast, Rapturepalooza has definitely got a lot of potential going for it.
Due out in the Us this spring, the film sees Anna Kendrick and Craig Robinson take the lead, and now the first red-band trailer – very much not suitable for work – has debuted on IGN.
“When the Apocalypse actually happens and a billion people are raptured up to heaven, Lindsey and her boyfriend Ben are left behind in suburban Seattle. The young couple try their best to lead a normal life surrounded by talking locusts, blood rain showers, and pot-smoking wraiths. But when the Anti-Christ makes his home base in their neighborhood, Lindsey finds herself the object of his affection. With the help of her family, friends, and a lawn-mowing zombie neighbor, the young couple set off to stop the Anti-Christ from taking her as his bride… and just maybe, saving the world in the process.

Will Rapturepalooza actually be funny? Even after watching its entire red band trailer, which is chock-full of gags, the answer to that question still doesn’t really become clear. There are so many jokes that fly by here, some good and some bad, that it’s near impossible to tell what the hit-to-miss ratio is going to be like when you actually sit down to watch the thing in the theater. Has this trailer basically given away every joke the film makes, or are there still plenty more waiting to be discovered? Are the jokes we do see the broadest, silliest ones, meant to attract a general audience, or is broad silliness all the movie has to offer? It’s tough to say. But what’s clear is that director Paul Middleditch and writer Chris Matheson haven’t pulled any punches with what they’re willing to satirize. They shoot Jesus out of the sky with a...

The Rapture is a Biblical prophesy in which Jesus Christ returns to Earth to take all of His followers into heaven, leaving unbelievers behind in an apocalyptic wasteland as the Antichrist tries to take over the world. It's been featured in a few films already, most famously the Left Behind series (which is getting a reboot starring Nicolas Cage), but now it looks like the religious event is going to be fodder for a comedy, as a red band trailer for Rapturepalooza has surfaced online, starring Anna Kendrick, John Francis Daley, and Craig Robinson as the Antichrist. It looks like the worst end of days comedy coming this year. Watch? Here's the red band trailer for Raturepalooza, courtesy of IGN: Rapturepalooza is directed by Paul Middleditch (Separation City) and written by Chris Matheson (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure). The story follows a young couple (Anna Kendrick of Up in the Air...

Well, it's ambitions were certainly up there. First announced two years ago, we kind of totally forgot about "Rapturepalooza," but Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley had signed on for a comedy that was aiming to be something like "Zombieland" meets "The Big Lebowski." But judging by this new trailer for the movie, the filmmakers missed the mark...and then some... Commercial director Paul Middleditch makes his feature debut on this one, and with a reported budget under $2 million, man does it ever show. Shoddy effects aside, this looks pretty tedious all around, and as much as everyone keeps trying to push him as a leading man and/or major supporting player, we still don't see it happening for Craig Robinson (and we love the guy). Either he hasn't found the right material or what he's given just doesn't work, but his antichrist here is woefully unfunny. Meanwhile, comedy rings...
