The coming-of-age comedy “Primo” from author and journalist Shea Serrano has been canceled at Freevee after a single-season run. Serrano, who created the series and served as executive producer, shared the news on social media Tuesday, two days after the sitcom’s one-year anniversary at the Amazon AVOD streamer.
“A short but beautiful run — sadly we’re not gonna be making any more episodes of ‘Primo,'” Serrano said. “I will always be indebted to everyone who worked on the show to make it so great and I will always be thankful to everyone who watched and championed it — thank you for real — long live ‘Primo.'”
Per an official logline: “The coming-of-age, single-camera comedy, inspired by Serrano’s life growing up in San Antonio, Texas, follows Rafa Gonzales (Ignacio Diaz-Silverio), a wide-eyed 16-year-old being raised by his clever mother, Drea (Christina Vidal), and his five overbearing uncles Rollie (Johnny Rey Diaz...

Freevee has canceled its freshman comedy series Primo from Shea Serrano and Mike Schur.
The decision to pass on a second season came after lengthy deliberations. While the show’s fate was being decided, the options on the cast were extended twice with the second extension ending this month. As explained by a source close to production, the executives looked for ways to confirm a second season but were unable to do so.
Primo employed a large number of Latinos both in front of cameras and behind, a rarity that will continue to diminish as networks and streamers cut down and eliminate productions due to budgetary reasons amid an industry contraction. Another such series, ABC’s Not Dead Yet, was among the broadcast shows canceled at the end of this season. While neither of the shows was deliberately targeted, their cancellations are a setback for representation.

It’s a Comedy Night Done Right reunion.
Steve Carell, star of “The Office,” will join previously announced Tina Fey, creator and star of “30 Rock,” in “The Four Seasons,” a Netflix comedy series based on the 1981 film of the same name. The streaming service announced Carell’s casting on Wednesday.
Fey and Carell previously starred in the 2010 comedy “Date Night,” in which they played a married couple. Their characters in “The Four Seasons” have not yet been announced.
The film follows three couples who go on quarterly vacations together, where the stresses and joys of marriage get magnified, especially after one of the men leaves his wife for a younger woman and begins bringing her on the trips. The film’s point-of-view couple is played by Alan Alda (who also wrote and directed) and Carol Burnett. The film was previously adapted into a short-lived sitcom in 1984.

Steve Carell is ready for a vacation after lending his dulcet tones to Illumination’s Despicable Me 4 and John Krasinski’s upcoming family comedy If. Thankfully, Netflix has a plane ticket with Carell’s name on it, so long as he’s willing to join the cast of The Four Seasons, a forthcoming comedy series led by Tina Fey.
The Four Seasons, a retread of the 1981 Universal movie of the same name, is a co-creation between Fey, her 30 Rock co-star Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield. Details about Carell’s character remain a mystery, though the cast list for Alan Alda’s 1981 comedy could provide some clues. In 1981’s The Four Seasons, three couples vacation together every season. After one couple divorces, feelings of betrayal and more spawn criticisms of one another, but the things that keep them together are stronger than those that might tear them apart. Steve Carell is set to star opposite Tina Fey in the upcoming Netflix comedy series “The Four Seasons,” Variety has learned.
The series is based on the 1981 film of the same name that was directed by and starred Alan Alda with Carol Burnett, Rita Moreno, Sandy Dennis, and Len Cariou also among the cast members. The series was first announced in January with an eight-episode order and is slated to begin production later this year.
In the film, three married couples take vacations together each season, but things are thrown for a loop when one of the husbands leaves his wife and begins bringing a younger woman with him. It was previously adapted into a 1984 TV series for CBS.
This will not be the first time Carell and Fey have appeared together onscreen. They previously played a married couple in the hit 2010 comedy feature “Date Night.” This is also not Carell’s first Netflix series,...

Steve Carell is reuniting with Tina Fey and Universal Television.
The Office grad has closed a deal to co-star in Netflix’s The Four Seasons, the update of the 1981 Alan Alda feature film of the same name. The role reunites Carell with Tina Fey after the duo starred as a married couple in the 2010 movie Date Night.
Ordered straight-to-series in January after Netflix won the show following a bidding war after the conclusion of last year’s dual strikes, the adaptation was co-created by Fey and her fellow 30 Rock alums Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield.
Production on the series is slated to begin later this year. The original film, written and directed by Alda, revolves around three couples who take vacations together each season and explores the changes in the group dynamic when one of couples splits up and the man brings a much younger woman on subsequent trips. Unlike their golden run on the big screen till phase 3, Marvel didn’t quite replicate its huge success on the small screen, with most of the Disney Plus MCU shows earning less-than-stellar reception. While fans have complained about MCU’s recent catalog being bloated following the abundance of TV shows, Marvel has also abandoned an overwhelming number of TV shows over the years.
This involves several renowned superheroes, including a Captain Britain show, which was greenlit long before the rise of Disney Plus and MCU TV shows.

Back in 2016, rumors regarding a Captain Britain show being in the early stages of development emerged. Poster artist Clara McAvoy claimed she was being paid to do a promo poster for it, assuring fans an official announcement might be heading our way in early 2017 or late 2016. Unfortunately, it never happened, leading many to speculate Marvel might have put the kibosh on it.

Forever’s too short — and so is two seasons, which is why Emmy-nominated musical comedy Girls5eva is headed to Netflix for an all-new third season debuting March 14. Back in May 2021, singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles returned to the Hollywood Bowl to promote a new album. At one point, she invited her “Girls5eva” co-stars — Renée Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell and Busy Philipps — to join her onstage. The quartet performed the song “4 Stars” from the comedy, marking the first and only time they’ve sung together in public.
But here’s the rub: This was the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, and all 17,500 seats around the Hollywood Bowl were empty. Bareilles’ concert was being livestreamed, and the cast had no idea what the fans at home felt about their performance.
Which sounds a lot like the fate of “Girls5eva” itself. The comedy was one of the first original series on Peacock, but on a nascent streamer, the audiences weren’t huge. Critics and a small cadre of fans embraced the Tina Fey-produced comedy, but it never caught on with a broader viewership.

Comedy series “Tacoma Fd” has been canceled at TruTV after four seasons, Variety has confirmed.
The series originally debuted on the basic cabler back in 2019. The show was part of the network’s push into original scripted series, alongside other shows like “At Home With Amy Sedaris,” “I’m Sorry,” and “Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters.” However, TruTV’s original programming lineup has been winnowed down to virtually nothing in the past few years, with the only original series still on the network being the hidden camera show “Impractical Jokers.”
Likewise, fellow TNets like TBS and TNT — all of which fall under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella — have gone from notable rosters of scripted shows to having none. Most recently, the TBS comedy series “Miracle Workers” was canceled after four seasons. That show featured a cast that included Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi.

The film’s cast also includes Carol Burnett, Len Cariou, Rita Moreno, Jack Weston, Sandy Dennis and Bess Armstrong.
