Among the titans of the Indian film industry, his forte was the grand epic that brought various phases of the subcontinent’s history – ancient, medieval, and early modern – to vivid life and enabled him to use his booming baritone, which even drew blind people to cinema theatres just to hear his grandiloquence.
Be it as the Rajput nobleman Sangram Singh in “Pukar” (1931) set in the times of Mughal Emperor Jahangir, Raja Porus in “Sikandar” (1941), in the title role of the Parmar king in “Prithvi Vallabh” (1943), as the Rajguru of Rani Lakkshmibai in “Jhansi ki Rani” (1952), or the bitter persecuted Jew Ezra in “Yahudi” (1958), Sohrab Modi strode the silver screen with his imposing presence, boundless histrionic abilities, and thunderous voice.
He delivered a trailblasing performance as a kind and rational man turned domestic tyrant – and twice over- in “Jailor”, made first in 1938 and remade in 1958, with totally different casts save him in the title role.

Rahul, who plays Mirza Muhammad Hakim, the third son of the Mughal Emperor Humayun, said: “I felt that the role was very well-edged. I thought that the big attraction was to act opposite Naseeruddin Shah, play his fundamentalist stepbrother and portray a conflicted relationship. I think these were the two main reasons that the role was well-edged.
“I had a very fruitful conversation with Ron Scalpello (director) in terms of his conceptualisation of the character and the way it was written.”
He also talked about his interest in Mughal history, saying: “I am well-versed as anybody else who read history in school, may be a little bit more than that.

Star stylist Adam Ballheim tells The Hollywood Reporter he’s enjoyed the sartorial journey he’s taken with Machine Gun Kelly since taking the musician on as a client in 2020. “We started working together right before the pandemic hit, and he’s come into his own in so many ways during that time,” Ballheim says. “Professionally, personally, stylistically, it’s been a really exciting time for him. The first model to make it big in Bollywood, she went on to make her name as an actress ready for unconventional and ‘bold’ (for the time) roles, usually playing independent-minded, “Westernised” women and rarely sporting saris or other Indian dresses onscreen. Unfazed at the overt “sexualisation” of her onscreen persona, Zeenat Aman went on to score a string of successes in many Bollywood classics.
But Zeenar Aman, who turns 71 on Saturday (November 19), does not need to be only remembered for playing the rebellious, tuned-out Jasbir Jaiswal/Janice in “Hare Rama Hare Krishna”, or guitar-strumming “lal kapde wali memsahab” Sunita in “Yaadon ki Baraat” (1973), or Sheela, or rather, ‘Laila’, of “Qurbani” (1980), or Sheetal of “Dostana” (1980).

If Rutger Hauer and Dennis Hopper had a Serbian love child, it would look something like Rade Serbedzija. The actor — who shone in films like Snatch — has been cast as the villain for the Liam Neeson revenge sequel, Taken 2. The first film found the Irish actor racing across Europe to save his kidnapped daughter from Albanian sex traders. The sequel starts filming in Turkey and France later this month, and will see Neeson's Bryan Mills the kidnapped one this time. Serbedzija will star as Murad, the father of the first film's slain baddie — thanks to the lethal hands of Mills. Apparently his character is a "vengeful man," who calls all the shots. Murad kidnaps Mills and his wife (Famke Janssen), and this time Mills' daughter (Maggie Grace...

His brother, Chris, is a bigger name in Hollywood right now, but Liam Hemsworth is doing just fine for himself. After making a name in pap like The Last Song, next year will see him in both The Hunger Games and The Expendables 2, putting him in the same realm of franchise acting that his older sibling is entrenched in at the moment.
This isn’t in that same realm, but Moviehole has learned that he’s currently negotiating to star for Phillip Noyce in Timeless. A sci-fi love story written by Enchanted‘s Bill Kelly, it follows “a young man who, haunted by unresolved issues between himself and his late wife, uses the money his wife left him to build a time-travel device so he can see her a final time.” Kind of like The Time Traveler’s Wife, seemingly minus the bizarre structure. Shabri sucks us into the grimy underbelly of Mumbai yet again: the world of ruthless gangsters, mindless killings, third degree police tortures and an autonomous world of criminals and the abusers of power (read police) where there can be no trace of humanity whatsoever. Justice as a concept is alien to this land and the only way to get even is by seeking an eye for an eye. Going by this description, no gangster film is essentially different from the other; but a certain pace and suspense makes them work; and as far as Shabri is concerned, the film manages to create the horror and thrill of the underworld effectively and with conviction.
Eesha Koppikar’s Shabri is no femme fatale but an ordinary victim of extraordinary situations that lead her to overthrow the ‘matka’ kingpin of the city.

Eesha Koppikar’s Shabri is no femme fatale but an ordinary victim of extraordinary situations that lead her to overthrow the ‘matka’ kingpin of the city.
