Steven Spielberg and Jeff Nathanson's Catch Me If You Can remains a beloved film, even more than two decades later. Although it may not be the first work of Spielberg's you think of, it has become a cult hit that captivates the audience through its lighthearted notes of comedy, drama, and romance. Since its 2002 release, the movie has garnered many awards and other nominations for its portrayal of Frank William Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his fantastic journey across the globe as he's pursued by FBI Agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks).

Exclusive, Updated: It’s official. The Disney+ movie, Young Woman and the Sea, is getting a limited theatrical release on May 31. This is after the Daisy Ridley movie tested in the high 90s.
I also hear that the movie will have a marketing campaign tailored to a limited release. Originally, we heard from a non-Disney source that the feature take on Glenn Stout’s novel was going to get a tentpole push.
Anyway, it’s another win for streaming movies heading to the big screen, and studios recognizing the potential for them there first.
Exclusive, Jan. 26: In an arguable first for a Disney+ movie, Disney is contemplating a theatrical release for the Daisy Ridley starring, Joachim Rønning directed feature take of Glenn Stout’s Young Woman and the Sea after the picture scored in the high 90s.

Back in 1996, the Twister cast, outside of Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton was largely unknown. At the time, not too many of them were famous. However, in the years since the film, much of that has changed and much of the Twister cast has gone on to fame both in front and behind the camera.
Helen Hunt was arguably the film’s biggest star in the cast back in ’96, but she wasn’t the first choice for the movie. Before the role of Dr. Jo Harding went to her, Jurassic Park standout Laura Dern, Bridget Fonda, and Kate Mulgrew almost wore the good doctor’s white tank top and reinforced mud-stompers. Initially, Tom Hanks eyed the role of Bill Harding but ultimately felt Twister wasn’t the right fit for his brand of character creation. Other actors floated for Bill Harding include Kevin Costner, Michael Keaton, Kurt Russell, Richard Gere,...

Mufasa: The Lion King is an upcoming live-action prequel that breaks away from the source material, allowing for the creation of a new story unbound by the restrictions of a remake. The CGI and special effects in Mufasa: The Lion King are expected to be even better than its predecessor, as Disney has had time to refine their processes and create more realistic images. Barry Jenkins, an Oscar-winning director, is leading the project with an incredible creative team, ensuring that this film will deliver something new and well-composed from the franchise.
Disney has created several live-action remakes of beloved stories that didn't work as well as the original films, but the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King could signal that they can finally do better. After successful yet uninspired releases like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King, telling an original story rather than recreating a classic one is a good idea.

Could the Lion King movies one day be as big as Star Wars? That's the hope at Disney, as producer Sean Bailey believes there's a lot of potential in the future of the franchise. Bailey, who's served as president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production since 2010, has also been overseeing the company's live-action remakes. That includes the live-action Beauty and the Beast, which earned $1.3 billion at the box office, along with Aladdin, which pulled in another $1.1 billion. The Little Mermaid is also on track to pass the $1 billion mark at the box office, having garnered over $326 million and counting since its recent release.
But what stands above the rest is the photorealistic adaptation of The Lion King, which released in theaters in 2019. Under Bailey's watch, that film reached $1.7 billion, prompting Disney to give the go-ahead to develop a follow-up film. That will be in the form of a prequel called Mufasa: The Lion King,...

After debuting the first footage from Paul King’s Wonka at CinemaCon last year, Warner Bros showed off an extended trailer today for the Christmas 2023 release. The origins story stars Timothée Chalamet as the titular candymeister, who lands in a mid-European city (the pic was shot in London) after traveling the world perfecting his craft. “I’m something of a magician, inventor and chocolate maker,” he says.
His goal is to open a chocolate shop. But Willy Wonka soon learns he must battle some pretty sinister characters. He’s told, “Many people have come here to sell chocolate and been crushed by the chocolate cartel.”

Keanu Reeves reveals he would return for Speed 3 on one condition. As one of the first leading roles that established himself as an action hero, Reeves starred in the 1994 film as the LAPD Swat officer Jack Traven who must stop an explosive-rigged bus from detonating if its speed drops below 50 miles per hour. After Speed was a success, Reeves did not return alongside Sandra Bullock for 1997's Speed 2: Cruise Control, which is widely considered one of the worst sequels of all time.
During a recent interview with Access Hollywood at the John Wick: Chapter 4 premiere, Reeves was asked if he would willingly return for the long-discussed Speed 3 alongside Bullock. Reeves answered, "of course," with no hesitation, although there is one condition required for him to return – "a great story, a great script." Paul King will direct from the screenplay he wrote with Simon Farnaby. David Heyman is producing via his Heyday Films. Luke Kelly is also producing, with Michael Siegel and Alexandra Derbyshire executive producing.

Timothée Chalamet has shared a first-look image from the set of “Wonka,” the upcoming Warner Bros. prequel to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” in which the Oscar-nominated actor stars as the beloved (if eccentric) chocolatier. Directed by “Paddington” and “Paddington 2” filmmaker Paul King, “Wonka” serves as an origin story for Willy Wonka. Check out the set image, which Chalamet shared on Twitter on Sunday, below.
Principal photography began in the United Kingdom just this past month. King wrote the script with Simon Farnaby. Farnaby previously wrote the screenplay for “Paddington 2.” David Heyman is producing via his Heyday Films. Luke Kelly is also producing, with Michael Siegel and Alexandra Derbyshire executive-producing.
This latest revamp of the Willy Wonka story will mark the third time Warner Bros. has adapted the Roald Dahl novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” for the big screen. The original 1971 movie starred Gene Wilder as the beloved chocolatier.

The cast of The Lion King prequel is coming together. Deadline reports that Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Aaron Pierre (The Underground Railroad) have just boarded the voice cast in lead roles. Pierre will be voicing a younger Mufasa, taking over the role from longtime voice actor James Earl Jones, while Harrison Jr. is playing Mufasa's brother Taka, aka Scar.
Directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), the The Lion King prequel will serve as an origin story for Mufasa. Though Jon Favreau isn't returning as director, screenwriter Jeff Nathanson is back to write the script. Like the 2019 reboot, the prequel is described by Disney as "live-action," though what that means in this case is using photorealistic animation technology for the animal characters.

Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will venture with director Barry Jenkins to the Pride Lands, with the actors set to voice Mufasa and Scar in Disney’s upcoming prequel to “The Lion King.”
After the studio’s 2019 photo-realistic adaptation of the animated classic grossed $1.6 billion at the global box office, Disney was eager to return to the vast savanna and greenlit a follow-up with Jenkins, the filmmaker behind the Oscar-winning “Moonlight,” at the helm. It’s unclear what exactly the film will be about, but it’s expected to focus on the early years of Mufasa, the regal father of Simba, and his menacing younger brother Scar.
Pierre, who recently worked with Jenkins on the historical TV series “The Underground Railroad,” is set to play Mufasa. Harrison Jr., best known for leading the Trey Edward Shults drama “Waves,” will portray Scar, whose birth-name is Taka.

Like Favreau’s film, the movie will be in a “live-action” style created through photorealistic animation and computer generated imagery.
Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the screenplay for the 2019 remake, is returning as the screenwriter on the follow-up.

M. Night Shyamalan once met with Steven Spielberg and other top execs about potentially writing an Indiana Jones movie, and he's opened up a little bit about what he had in mind for the project. At the time, only the first three Indiana Jones movies had been released and efforts were being made to get the fourth installment off the ground. Shyamalan was brought into the conversation at one point during this process as he was hot off the success of The Sixth Sense.
Spielberg was intent on directing Indiana Jones 4, but with no idea set in stone, different writers were approached for the script. In a new interview with Collider, M. Night Shyamalan was asked directly about the time he was nearly involved with the Indiana Jones franchise. As the filmmaker recalls, the meeting alone was a dream come true, and even though his pitch wasn't used, he...

Timothée Chalamet is our next Willy Wonka. In January, it was reported that Chalamet was in consideration along with Spider-Man actor Tom Holland to star in Wonka, a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel that will follow a "young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world's most famous chocolate factory." Per a new report by Deadline, Chalamet has now officially signed on for the part.
Paul King is directing Timothée Chalamet as Wonka using a screenplay co-written with Simon Farnaby; previous versions of the script were worked on by Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson, and Steven Levenson. David Heyman will produce under his Heyday Films banner alongside Luke Kelly, and Michael Siegel will executive produce.

Timothée Chalamet is headed to the land of pure imagination, as the Academy Award-nominated actor has just been cast as a young Willy Wonka in a new origin story film from Warner Bros. and the Roald Dahl Company. According to Deadline, while the film is based upon the characters originally created by Roald Dahl in his novel (that also inspired the 1971 film from Mel Stuart), this one will focus on a young Willy Wonka before he opened his famed chocolate factory. Warner Bros. confirmed to IndieWire a release date is currently set for March 17, 2023.
The film will be directed by Paul King (the director of “Paddington” and “Paddington 2”) from the screenplay he wrote with Simon Farnaby. Farnaby previously wrote the screenplay for “Paddington 2.” David Heyman is producing via his Heyday Films. Luke Kelly is also producing, with Michael Siegel and Alexandra Derbyshire executive-producing.

Exclusive: Timothée Chalamet is ready to head to a world of pure imagination as the Oscar-nominated actor is set to star as the iconic inventor and chocolate maker in Warner Bros and the Roald Dahl Story Co.’s Wonka. Based on characters created by Roald Dahl, the story will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory. Sources also tell Deadline that Wonka will mark the first time Chalamet gets to show off his singing and dancing skills with several musical numbers set to appear in the film. He’s been the top choice for some time but scheduling was a hurdle that had to be overcome as training for those numbers is included in the prep for this film.
Paul King will direct from the screenplay he wrote with Simon Farnaby. David Heyman is producing via his Heyday Films. Luke Kelly is also producing, with Michael Siegel and Alexandra Derbyshire executive producing.
This marks the third time WB has taken on the Wonka story, with the previous versions being adaptations of Dahl’s classic novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The first one, in 1971, starred Gene Wilder as Wonka, and the second in 2005 starred Johnny Depp in the role. While plot details are unknown, the new pic will be an origin tale of the character and mark the first time Charlie Bucket will not be featured.
For Chalamet, the Oscar nominee has avoided the tentpole pic over the years with his upcoming Dune adaptation being his first true venture into the genre. This film will also give him a possible franchise was well. Later this year, Chalamet will be seen staring in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune for Warner Bros and Legendary, Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch opposite Frances McDormand, and Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. He is repped by UTA and attorney Lev Ginsburg.

Brett Ratner will return to the director's chair for an Untitled Milli Vanilli Project, a long-time passion project for the Rush Hour director. Deadline reports that Ratner's RatPac Entertainment has struck a deal with Millennium Media to develop the project, which Ratner has been trying to get off the ground for at least ten years. Millennium Media is teaming up with Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment on the project and is launching sales ahead of the upcoming virtual EFM.
This would mark Ratner’s first feature directing job since the 2014 Hercules.
In November 2017, seven women, including actresses Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge, accused the filmmaker of sexual harassment and misconduct, causing Warner Bros. to sever all ties with the producer-director with whom they had a lucrative deal.
Ratner, who has denied the claims, had kept a low profile since then until recently joining the ongoing GameStop frenzy by picking up life rights to WallStreetBets founders Jaime and Joel Rogozinski.

America’s Dad is no doubt going to be feeling very disappointed in some of his children right now after yesterday’s events, but many of Tom Hanks’ other ceremonial offspring have been putting their time to much better use by watching one of his best movies after it was recently added to the Netflix library.
The beloved actor doesn’t play the villain very often, and while it would admittedly be a stretch to describe Catch Me If You Can‘s Carl Hanratty as such, he’s most definitely the antagonist of the crime caper. The dogged veteran FBI agent tries his best to stop Leonardo DiCaprio’s Frank Abagnale Jr. in his tracks, but as is the case in a lot of similarly themed films, a sense of mutual respect eventually develops between them.

Several details surrounding The Lion King 2 were recently confirmed at the Disney Investor Day events, including that the movie will be a prequel and that Moonlight director Barry Jenkins will be at the helm of the live-action remake. Jenkins has now offered a little more insight into the project, praising the script, and asserting his connection to the 1994 animated original.
"Yeah, it's pretty cool. My agents send me a lot of scripts. When this one came, super top secret, I was very skeptical. Like you, I remember when The Lion King came out. I had two nephews, and so I used to watch it with them. Lion King was the "Baby Shark" of my time. Disney is still very much in the business of making dreams come true, with the recent Disney Investors Day providing so many gifts for fans that it is already making up for the drama of the past year. While a lot of the content revealed was aimed at the streaming service Disney+, the studio has not completely abandoned the big screen, with The Lion King 2 being officially announced with Moonlight director Barry Jenkins. Surprisingly, the follow-up will reportedly be a prequel to the 2019 hit, rather than a sequel.
The legendary Hans Zimmer will provide the score alongside the multi-talented Pharrell Williams and Moonlight composer Nicholas Britell. Exclusive: Disney+ is negotiating for Daisy Ridley to star and Joachim Rønning to direct Young Woman and the Sea, a Jeff Nathanson-scripted drama based on the book by Glenn Stout that chronicles the daring journey of the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel. Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle made the 21-mile swim in 1926.
Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman are producing.
Pic brings all of the participants back into the Disney fold. Ridley starred in the three Star Wars films, episodes VII through IX. The project came to Disney out of turnaround at Paramount, and Bruckheimer brought it to the studio where he produced the Pirates of the Caribbean films. Rønning directed 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Men Tell No Tales, and Nathanson wrote it. Rønning has further experience shooting on the water with another true story, 2012’s Oscar nominated Kon-Tiki. He most recently directed Maleficent: Mistress of Evil for Disney.

The Hollywood blockbuster, The Lion King, is set to have a follow-up. Barry Jenkins, who called the shots on the Oscar-winning Moonlight, will direct the film.
"Helping my sister raise two young boys during the '90s, I grew up with these characters," Jenkins said, according to a report in variety.com.
"Having the opportunity to work with Disney on expanding this magnificent tale of friendship, love and legacy while furthering my work chronicling the lives and souls of folk within the African diaspora is a dream come true," he added.
The new film will take the story of the 2019 photorealistic remake forward, rather than the 1994 animation classic.
Disney is yet to announced a release date for the follow-up.
According to sources, the new film will partly focus on the early years of Mufasa, the father of Simba. Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the screenplay for the 2019 movie, will return to write the follow-up.

Disney has set a follow-up to its live-action remake of “The Lion King,” and “Moonlight” director Barry Jenkins is attached to direct, Barry Jenkins announced in a tweet Tuesday.
Jon Favreau in 2019 directed the live-action remake of the animated ’90s classic “The Lion King,” and the film made $1.6 billion worldwide. Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the remake, is back to write the follow-up and has already completed a draft of the script.
The logline is also being kept under wraps, but Deadline is reporting that the film will explore the mythology of the other characters throughout Pride Rock, including Mufasa’s origin story.

Jon Favreau in 2019 directed the live-action remake of the animated ’90s classic “The Lion King,” and the film made $1.6 billion worldwide. Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the remake, is back to write the follow-up and has already completed a draft of the script.

Disney is returning to the Pride Lands for a follow-up to “The Lion King.” Barry Jenkins, the filmmaker behind “Moonlight” and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” will direct the upcoming feature based on the beloved family classic.
“Helping my sister raise two young boys during the ’90s, I grew up with these characters,” Jenkins said. “Having the opportunity to work with Disney on expanding this magnificent tale of friendship, love and legacy while furthering my work chronicling the lives and souls of folk within the African diaspora is a dream come true.”
The movie will be a continuation of the studio’s 2019 photorealistic remake, rather than the 1994 cartoon. Jon Favreau directed the recent reboot to mixed reviews but massive box office receipts; it generated over $1.5 billion at the global box office.

Exclusive: The Walt Disney Studios has set Oscar winner Barry Jenkins to direct the studio’s follow-up to the 2019 blockbuster The Lion King. Jeff Nathanson, who scripted the last installment, is back in the fold and has completed an initial draft of script. Jenkins won the Oscar for scripting the Best Picture winner Moonlight and was nominated for adapting If Beale Street Could Talk (he directed both).
The film will continue with the photo-realistic technology that director Jon Favreau used in the 2019 film and 2016’s The Jungle Book. There is no release date set for The Lion King follow-up or for the production start, but it is understandably a top priority for Sean Bailey’s division after the last film grossed $1.6 billion worldwide.
They are keeping the logline under wraps, but I’m told that the story will further explore the mythology of the characters, including Mufasa’s origin story.
