As is the case with Roman Reigns in modern WWE, sometimes a champion’s reign lasts way too long. But the opposite can also be true. Somebody could get a big title win and only hold onto the belt for a few weeks, possibly even days, before being forced back to square one. For one reason or another, there are a select group of wrestlers in WWE who dropped the title way earlier than they should have.
On this list of wrestlers who needed more time with their championships, we will not be including those who were forced to vacate due to injury. It seems too easy an answer, so here’s an honorable mention for Finn Balor, Daniel Bryan, Edge, and the rest of the champs who had to vacate the belt for physical reasons.
15. Triple H as Undisputed Champion (2002)

Wrestling legend Bret Hart may not have the major Hollywood motion capture experience of fellow professional wrestlers and franchise superstars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson or Dave Bautista (who keeps his WWE connection strong), but his mo-cap resume extends much farther back. The Hitman’s shot at mo-cap came in the mid-’90s for the video game WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game and he remembers the experience as fun but daunting.
On the most recent episode of the WWE Network series This Is Awesome, titled “Most Awesome Wrestling Games”–in which “WWE Superstars relive the nostalgia of battling their buddies back in the day and debate the classics”–Bret Hart reflected on the intensity of doing motion capture on the game, both good and bad.

I grew up as a wrestling fan, having started watching at the sunrise of the 90s, in 1992, with the cartoon-era of WWF lighting up our screens with megastars like Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Bret Hart and Roddy Piper. Even back then though, in the midst of the mid-card, I was intrigued by the high-flyer in the baggy blue Mc Hammer-style pants named Owen Hart. When you go and look back on early Owen Hart matches from the 80s and early 90s, you realise just how ahead of the time he was with his ring work. His high flying and acrobatic energy mixed with his nuanced technical ability made for an exciting and entertaining superstar who I was immediately a fan of. Sure, back in those days he wasn’t being given a real shot, working in nothing-matches with Skinner, but I, and many others, could see just how talented he was.

Vince McMahon has a lot of negative qualities to him. He’s an egomaniacal, out-of-touch, petty sociopath who will chase people around the workplace with soiled underwear on a stick. Despite being an eccentric psycho, Vince still has his positives. One of them is how whenever WrestleMania comes by, he tends to treat the roster like Ebenezer Scrooge treats people on Christmas Day. WrestleMania is the biggest payday of the year and it’s a show where they try to get as many people on as possible so that even some of the lowest-ranking folks can earn some big money.
It can take many forms, from ten-man tag matches, Fatal 4-Ways, Money in the Bank, or even just tossing in a bunch of pointless singles matches featuring guys who aren’t even feuding. The most tried and true way to get a bunch of wrestlers on the show with little effort is a battle royal.

Welcome to this edition of The Last Week In Wrestling, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have another week to get to, so let’s do so before you go girl and take me dancing tonight.
Best Promo:
Aries Wants The Strap (Major League Wrestling) – Austin Aries cut a good promo on wanting to challenge Teddy hart for the Mlw Middle-Weight Title. Some-times, all a promo needs to be said seriously and with conviction, which is what happened here.
Best Moment:
Banks Is Back (WWE) – Sasha Banks attacked Natalya while she spoke of a vision from her dead father Jim Neidhart. Then Sasha attacked Becky Lynch and might have clocked her in the back of the head (by accident).
Best Move:
Canadian Destroyer (Ring Of Honor) – Bandido did a Canadian Destroyer to Pco on the apron. Holy $#!@. Picture that and you’ll get why I’m giving it the award.

You know… I don’t think many of today’s wrestling fans, the casual viewers anyway, realise just how f@cking good tag team wrestling can be.
It isn’t hard to find a good tag team match nowadays. I mean, all you have to do is watch an Nxt TakeOver Special and it’s likely you’ll see a blinding tag team encounter. If you popped over to Aew for their Double or Nothing event then you will have seen a couple of top notch ones too. New Japan presents them regularly, Nxt UK has shown us some great ones… they’re out there, if you look for them.
My early memories of tag team wrestling saw the likes of The Hart Foundation, Demolition, The Road Warriors, The Rockers and The Orient Express putting on short but sweet tag team clinics in WWF. I have fond memories of seeing...

Bret Hart, who broke into the WWE as a member of the Hart Foundation tag team alongside his brother-in-law, Jim Neidhart, was delivering his acceptance speech as the team was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on Saturday night when a fan ran into the ring and attacked Hart, grabbing him from behind and wrestling him to the ground.
Security was slow to respond to the incident, as WWE wrestlers who were seated near the ring — which was serving as a stage for the event — attacked the perpetrator and pulled him off Hart. Among those who hit the ring was Raw Tag Team Champion Dash Wilder as well as Travis Browne, a Ufc fighter who is married to Ronda Rousey. Every Royal Rumble has to start with someone and these pairs of competitors tend to have some meaning behind their appearances.
One of the things that makes the Royal Rumble so great is the illusion that everything is random. When the countdown ends, we don’t truly know who is going to run out most of the time. The full roster is a mystery, as is its order. But only in storyline. After all, wrestling is predetermined, so all of this is planned and written. That’s why the last five or six spots are usually the heavy hitters.
The #30 spot tends to be pretty straightforward. Outside of the three times when it’s gone to the winner, the final entrant is usually a specific kind of wrestler who is supposed to come off as high-level and threatening, but one that we know has zero real chance winning the match.

The SmackDown women's title took it to the extreme. Who won? We have the results.
Now that Survivor Series gave us a decisive winner in the Raw vs. SmackDown war, we move on to WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders, & Chairs 2018. This will be the tenth installment of the annual PPV, as long as you count the head-scratching TLC: Tables, Ladders, Chairs...and Stairs from 2014. Otherwise, the PPV revolves around a match that features tables, ladders, and chairs. Sometimes this is really just a dressed-up hardcore match. Sometimes it’s just a ladder match with extra weapons. A lot of the time, the show also features ladder matches, chair matches, and so on.
Last year’s show was weird as hell due to Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt being forced off the show to illness, giving us Kurt Angle as a member of the Shield and mercy killing...

In his first interview since being reinstated by WWE, Hulk Hogan explained how he apologized to the WWE locker room for audio that captured him using the N-word years ago.
Speaking to his old friend and pro-wrestling photographer Bill Apter on the new wrestling podcast “The Apter Chat,” Hogan said he began his “nervous” address to the current WWE roster ahead of July pay-per-view event “Extreme Rule” with a simple “Thank you guys for the time.”
Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, continued, saying he told the other wrestlers: “The first thing I want to do is tell you guys, 12 years ago I said something. About three years ago it just came to light. And I want to apologize for everything I said. I could give you the ‘woe is me’ story, I could tell you all the things, all the reasons why I was in this space I was in — a very dark,...

On July 23, WWE set plans for its first-ever all-female-wrestler pay-per-view event. Six days later, TheWrap sat down with “Glow” co-creators Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive and star Betty Gilpin to talk about the state of women’s wrestling, including that announcement from the major league of sports entertainment.
The trio took off and ran with our question; below is how that portion of the conversation from the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour went.
TheWrap: Did you hear the WWE set the first all-female wrestler pay-per-view? What do you think of that? And were you guys fans of female wrestling before the show and are you now and what effect — if any — do you think “Glow” has had on the popularity of female wrestling now?
Carly Mensch: I think the original Glow kind of stepped in a lot of these conversations about, you know, the first ever show about women’s wrestling on TV.

Our thoughts are with the Neidhart family during this difficult time. Earlier this week, former pro wrestler Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart died after a tragic accident at his home in Wesley Chapel, Fl and now his daughter, Total Divas star — and WWE Superstar — Natalya Neidhart is opening up about her dad's death. "I can’t put into words how hard it is going to be for myself and our family to have to say goodbye to my dad. He meant the world to us, and nothing will ever replace the special times we shared together as a family," the 36-year-old wrote on Instagram. "My dad was always a fighter and an incredibly special person. There was no one like him! I’m just gonna miss him so much. We are going to hold all of the moments we had with him close to our hearts forever and never let them go.

Bully Ray, formerly Bubba Ray Dudley of WWE, does not approve of The Revival’s “Raw” tribute to the late Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart on Monday.
The current WWE tag team, which is made up of Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder, borrowed The Hart Foundation’s Hart Attack finisher against Matt Hardy last night. Ray didn’t like the fact that they pulled it out mid-match, which can dilute the impact of a signature maneuver.

Through different factors, WWE works its way into being segmented by eras. Usually it’s defined by direction and the talent promoted at the top. As it is right now, we’re in the midst of an era shift. John Cena spent years as the focal point of the company with Randy Orton and, for a time, Batista at his side. These days, Cena and Orton are winding down and Batista is long gone.
Instead, we're now in something resembling the Roman Reigns Era? Will WWE finally give up on him and try something else? Will it be an era defined by smaller guys with fantastic ringwork? It’s still hard to say.

Bret “Hitman” Hart began his career in his father’s Stampede Wrestling promotion, before achieving global superstardom in the World Wrestling Federation in the ’80’s and ’90’s. His no-nonsense attitude, and the legitimacy that came with being a Hart Brother from the infamous family Dungeon enabled Bret to bypass the cartoon gimmicks that were handed out to his WWF colleagues.
And so, while his peers on the WWF roster were saddled with ludicrous personas (such as the gifted Terry Taylor being made to cluck and strut as The Red Rooster), Bret was able to sidestep all of the cornball nonsense and continually be presented as a serious athlete.
Forget the multiple championship wins, being presented simply as a wrestler in Vince McMahon’s 80’s universe, was perhaps Bret’s greatest accomplishment.

That being said, even a guy as respected and decorated as ‘the Hitman’ would still occasionally find...

This is just the second 3 hour edition of the flagship show and it’s interesting to see how the company fill the extra hour. The influx of WWF stars like the British Bulldog and Jim Neidhart has propped up the mid card to flesh it out a little more and the ongoing saga of the new World order and the beginning of them crumbling has some more time to play out on each episode.
Going into this week’s show, the big advertisement was the main event of Sting going one on one with Randy Savage, as well as the fallout from Kevin Nash using the illegal jacknife powerbomb the week before.
Neither Bret Hart or Ric Flair made appearances this week, which seemed slightly strange. Last week, Bret made his intention to challenge the winner of Sting and Hogan for the WCW World Title but all we...

The full content listing for the upcoming WWE DVD and Blu-ray set on the life and death of Owen Hart has been revealed, courtesy of the Wrestling DVD Network. The list includes all chapter titles for the documentary feature on disc one, as well as all extras, including the full list of matches selected for the package.
Bret Hart recently commented on the documentary portion of the set, sounding very pessimistic about the chances that the documentary will do a good job telling the full story of his brother’s life. Bret believes that WWE is having to walk on egg shells to cater to Owen’s widow, Martha, who is not supporting the DVD release.
Bret told the Fight Network:

What has been billed as the final batch of Superstars for WWE 2K16 has been confirmed this afternoon.
Here are the names in full: Bray Wyatt, Mikey Whipwreck, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E), Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady, Stunning Steve Austin, Superstar Steve Austin, Rusev, American Bad Ass Undertaker, Baron Corbin, Brian Pillman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Konnor, Viktor, Mark Henry, Ministry Undertaker, Ricky Steamboat, Savio Vega, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, Sting ’99, Sting Blonde and finally the two Terminator renders.
The new names show how in-depth the Stone Cold mode will be. It looks like we’re going to be travelling right through his days as a Hollywood Blonde with Brian Pillman and that feud with Ricky Steamboat, stopping off for a cup of coffee in Ecw to feud with Mikey Whipwreck (and maybe Sandman?), and then going through his main run in WWE, including the 2001 Royal Rumble.

Next to WrestleMania, WWE SummerSlam is viewed by many as the second biggest show of the wrestling calendar. As such, big matches are put on, and even bigger performances are delivered. Not everybody can come out of SummerSlam as a winner, though.
Looking back through SummerSlam history since the PPV debuted in 1988, now is the perfect time to see who SummerSlam’s biggest losers are. Be it in singles or tag team action, whether there’s stipulations in place, or even if it’s not winning a multi-man match, any-and-all failed attempt at victory has been taken into account for this list in order to find out who has picked up the biggest amount of defeats at the biggest show of the Summer.

The 1992 Royal Rumble was the most unique Rumble PPV of all time because it’s the only time the WWE Title was up for grabs in the Royal Rumble match. Due to that reason, it was arguably the most important Rumble match ever.
It’s actually surprising that WWE hasn’t duplicated that aspect of the show because it put such a huge importance on the winner of the match. Perhaps it is something that Vince McMahon only wanted to do one time and never again, which makes a lot of sense.
The WWE Title was up for grabs because of controversial finishes in matches between Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker. This was only a year after Undertaker’s debut and he was a heel. Due to the controversy, WWE President Jack Tunney vacated the title and announced that the winner of the match would be the new WWE Champion.

Bret Hart is one of the greatest Superstars in the history of the WWE. His career started in the mid 1980s when he became one half of the Hart Foundation tag team with Jim Neidhart, then he became an Intercontinental Champion in 1991 and in 1992 he won his first WWE Title. For the next five years he was one of the biggest stars in the company that went on to win the WWE Title five times. He’s considered the most popular Canadian wrestler of all time.
Hart’s most famous match was also his last match as a full time performer at Survivor Series 1997. He was the victim of a screwjob perpetrated by his opponent Shawn Michaels as well as his boss Vince McMahon and he left the company with a lot of his anger in his heart. We didn’t know if he’d ever work for WWE again.

A lot of people have been talking about Benjamin Morris’ 538 piece, “Are Pro Wrestlers Dying at an Unusual Rate?”
Like Morris, I am neither an actuarial scientist nor a demographer. So, our interpretations of the data should be taken with a grain of salt. My results were somewhat different from Morris’ due to a difference data set and changes in how we calculated actuarial predictions.
Differences in methodology from Morris
I also used Social Security Actuarial Life Tables, but my “expected mortality rates” for the age groups were not the same as Morris’. For each wrestler, I calculated what their age would have been as of today. Then, based on gender, I looked up the number of lives (out of 100,000) that were expected to still be alive and converted that to a percentage. His analysis looked at wrestlers who were on 20+ WWF PPVs through 2002. I went with a...

After about a month of taking in what the WWE Network has to offer I thought we could take a look at some of the things that are worth your time on there, and even just to pick up on DVD. Every PPV event from WWE(F), WCW and Ecw is included on the on-demand section of the network, which means there is hundreds of shows and thousands of hours worth of wrestling to dig through, so I wanted to whittle it down to ten shows that I feel are worth watching, and the reasons will be highlighted too.
Let’s begin with an obvious one shall we?
WWE: WrestleMania 1
Held in Madison Square Garden in New York City, the very first WWF pay-per-view ever presented and a show that lit the fuse on the rocket that became sports entertainment and the concept of pay-per-view. The show isn’t...

It was quite the violent week in professional wrestling, Daniel Bryan was handcuffed and nearly drown, Goldust looked like he legitimately wanted to murder Fandango, and Bully Ray threatened an innocent chair for 15 minutes. And those were the best parts! Actually, Raw was pretty solid, but for some reason, outside of the top two matches, WWE doesn’t seem too concerned that WrestleMania is almost here.
We only have five matches announced so far, and we still need 11 more participants for the Andre the Giant battle royal. Maybe the company should contact Jim Neidhart, he has a bit of battle royal experience from WrestleMania 2, or Buff Bagwell could take a night off from Gigiloing to enter for the right price (only $800 for two hours), Duke “The Dumpster” Droese is probably looking for work as well. So there are plenty of good options.

Over the years there have been some incredible tag teams in the WWE, and some of the most original gimmicks, from The Legion of Doom with their futuristic armour and ferocious face paint, to the Dudley Boyz and their unusual family relationship, and even the financial based Money Inc – all had terrific gimmicks.
A good gimmick can make the world of difference when trying to make it big in the WWE; just ask The Ringmaster, who after a hair cut and a new gimmick as a rebellious bad-ass called Stone Cold Steve Austin became one of the biggest stars sports entertainment had ever seen. Unfortunately for some, like the 13 tag teams listed here, not everyone was given great gimmicks, and had to suffer the ignominy of being saddled with frankly terrible gimmicks that any talents would have struggled to get over.

Making his first appearance in a WWE ring in 15 years, former WWE Champion Psycho Sid returned on last night’s WWE Raw from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He returned to face Heath Slater, who really should stop bothering packing his trunks for Raw, who Sid defeated in a quick squash match and pinned him after his signature Powerbomb.
Psycho Sid, real name Sid Eudy, turns 52-years-old on July 4th, last left the WWE in June 1997, three months after he lost his WWE Title to The Undertaker at WrestleMania 13. At WWE King of the Ring 1997, Sid and the Legion of Doom were defeated by the Hart Foundation (Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart and The British Bulldog). On the next night on Raw, Sid made his last appearance on Raw by defeating Owen Hart.

WWE Diva Tamina’s attack on Natalya during a recent episode of SmackDown has led to her babyface turn. Reports from WWE house show live events is that she has been playing the role of a face and a program feud with Natalya looks to have started.
WWE’s website recently put up a new article looking at their fathers. Tamina is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka and Natalya’s dad is two time WWE Tag Team Champion Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart.

Festive birthday greetings to professional wrestling legend Bret "Hitman" Hart, who turns 53 years old today. The native of Calgary remains one of the greatest performers to ever step into the squared circle not only because he had excellent technique (hence his nickname "The Excellence of Execution") but also because of his ability to tell a story, his incredible knack for cutting promos and his incredible relationship with fans around the world.
Though already a star in his native Canada by the time he arrived in the WWF in the early '80s, Hart first established himself as a star as one half of the Hart Foundation, a tag-team he formed with Jim Neidhart. They held multiple championships throughout the end of the '80s into the '90s, when Bret became a singles star who captured the Intercontinental Championship two different times.
