This February, Christie’s will present the iconic property from music legend Elton John’s former Atlanta home in a series of landmark sales at Christie’s Rockefeller Center. Beginning with an evening sale on Wednesday, February 21, the series will be comprised of 8 sales in total, both live and online. The auctions of this extraordinary collection represent a turning point in the celebrated singer’s personal journey and offers collectors a rare opportunity to own a piece of its rich history.
The city of Atlanta played a crucial role in John’s life, becoming the hub he would return to throughout his numerous tours within the United States. He solidified this connection to Atlanta in 1992 when he acquired the condominium in Park Place, on Peachtree Road. His unexpected choice of Atlanta as a residence was driven by personal reasons. London – A psychedelic eye mosaic commissioned by John Lennon for the swimming pool at his Kenwood home in Surrey in 1965 leads Bonhams’ Rock, Pop & Film sale on Wednesday 29 November at Knightsbridge, London.
Claire Tole-Moir, Bonhams Head of Popular Culture in London, commented: “This monumental mosaic, commissioned by John Lennon is a striking example of the Beatle’s artistic vision and influences. Lennon’s Kenwood home in the English countryside was a place of respite from all the public attention he experienced during the height of The Beatles’ popularity. It’s said Lennon would spend idle hours near the swimming pool and that the mosaic could even be seen from his favoured ‘sunroom’ at the top of the house. With Kenwood still under private ownership, it is very rare to see anything from when John Lennon lived there, making the ‘Psychedelic Eye’ mosaic an incredibly important artefact of Beatles history.”

Emmy-winning actress Julia Garner went braless during Milan Fashion Week as she wore a stylish black jumpsuit that offered a plunging bustline.
Garner recently traveled to Italy to attend the Gucci spring 2023 fashion show, and she absolutely stunned.
Wearing her short blonde hair in a style similar to finger waves, the Inventing Anna actress also wore a long pearl necklace that wrapped around her neck, giving her a look reminiscent of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
The jumpsuit, made with black velvet material, fit snuggly around the New York native’s waist and bustline.
She opted for a simple makeup look, appearing to wear mauve eyeshadow with mascara and a pink lip shade.
“When I first tried on the suit, it felt very feminine and masculine at the same time,” Garner revealed to W Magazine about the style.

The femme fatale is alive and well in Los Angeles-set indie “No Way Out,” an old-fashioned noir dressed up in the steamy decadence of an erotic thriller. Trouble is, veteran producer Keith Kjarval’s debut solo screenplay doesn’t provide the kind of memorable characters or sharp plotting needed to punch across a dark crime melodrama. Nor does first-time feature director Azi Rahman’s reasonably stylish walk on the wild side seduce sufficiently as a stylistic exercise, reaching for “Irreversible”-esque shock value without ever seeming very surprising or transgressive.
There’s enough sex and violence here to hold attention for an hour and a half, but the care or conviction to explain why it all happens — let alone why viewers should care — proves elusive. Vertical Entertainment is opening the film on a handful of U.S. theater screens on August 8, simultaneous with release to digital and VOD, where its primary audience will be found.

The parties within its walls were glitzy, the arguments were epic and the scandals provided perfect gossip fuel. If only houses could talk: This one, however, is a battered shadow of its proud Regency past, its interior walls torn apart, trucks parked on its tennis court. Its only occasional visitor is David Zaslav, newly minted king of Hollywood, who comes to commune with its ghosts and summon up plans for its glistening future.
Zaslav needs the house as badly as it needs Zaslav. A fiercely ambitious man with an appetite for the theatrical, Zaslav paid $16 million for the late Bob Evans home in Beverly Hills, originally telling friends he may spend three months a year in Hollywood, creating a livelier aura for his Discovery Channel. That may now stretch to nine months, since Zaslav, having negotiated the $43 billion Discovery-AT&T deal, has now expanded his domain to include Warner Bros,...

Exclusive: He Dreams Of Giants, the feature documentary about Terry Gilliam’s long-troubled Don Quixote adaptation, has been picked up for UK release by Blue Finch Films.
The doc is a follow up to Keith Fulton and Lou Pepe’s previous chronicle of Gilliam’s doomed efforts to get his film made, 2002’s Lost In La Mancha. Both films were produced by Lucy Darwin. The deal was made by Mike Chapman on behalf of Blue Finch and Ed Parodi on behalf of Film Constellation.
Mike Chapman commented, “We were huge fans of the documentary upon first seeing it and are thrilled to be working on the release in the UK and Ireland. It’s a compelling look at the trials and tribulations of the artistic process, where fact is perhaps wilder than fiction.”
Blue Finch has also acquired Tribeca selection Banksy Most Wanted, an investigation into the real identity of the infamous street artist.

Director Gero von Boehm’s fascinating film includes the famed fashion photographer’s muses but also asks questions about his misogynist images
The intelligence and even-handedness of this documentary about the provocative fashion photographer Helmut Newton makes a change from the fawning tone you get in a lot of fashion films. It’s a flattering “authorised” portrait, featuring interviews with famous Newton muses Charlotte Rampling, Grace Jones and Claudia Schiffer. But director Gero von Boehm deserves points for not ignoring the “porno chic” controversy surrounding his more extreme fetishistic images of naked women. There’s a brilliant clip of Newton appearing as a guest on French TV alongside Susan Sontag, who accuses him to his face of being a misogynist.
The film benefits from terrific behind-the-scenes footage of Newton on the set of his shoots. “Don’t look poverty stricken. Look incredible!” he instructs a model. Newton himself looks as...

Just a few weeks after André Balazs bought the Chateau Marmont — he reportedly paid a little over $12 million for the 61-year-old, 63-room hotel in 1990 — he ran into legendary photographer Helmut Newton and his wife, June, in the lobby. The couple had been living part-time at the hotel for about three years.
“I introduced myself as the new owner, and we sat down and Helmut leaned back in the sofa,” Balazs recalls in an exclusive interview with Variety from his farm in upstate New York. “He starts telling me, ‘André, I’m so delighted to meet you, but whatever you do, don’t f— it up. Don’t f— up the hotel. It’s perfect.’ And as he’s saying that the sofa seam rips and a spring pops out.”
While Newton may have been enamored with the Chateau’s history and old Hollywood charm, Balazs knew things had to change.

Amazon Studios brings the story of Marie Curie to the screen with Radioactive starring Oscar-nominated actress Rosamund Pike as the pioneering scientist.
Directed by Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis) and written by Jack Thorne, Radioactive is based on the 2010 graphic novel Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout by Lauren Redniss. The film adaptation follows Curie’s life and the legacy of scientific breakthroughs. At the same time, the story tells the darker consequences that came about after her amazing work.
Curie married fellow scientist Pierre Curie (Sam Riley) who went on to raise two daughters and change the face of science forever by jointly winning the Nobel for the discovery of radium in 1903. After the death of her husband, Curie continues her research and invites scandal when she has an affair with another prominent scientist, Paul Langevin (Aneurin Barnard). However, it is Marie’s commitment to science which prevails,...

Trust is earned, not given. Just because you believe you’re a just person who’d do everything in your power to protect the less fortunate doesn’t mean they should blindly provide their allegiance. They need to know for sure that what you say and do is true. They need to know that you aren’t acting one way via deception in order to act another way later out of some warped notion of entitlement. There are too many people in this world who believe that the bare minimum is worth both material spoils and sainthood to want for nothing in this life and the next.

Perverse, erotic, debasing, and powerful, fashion photographer Helmut Newton’s photographs throughout the 20th century displayed a worship of women similar to a domineering male director and his female star. Fittingly, Newton is most famous in cinephile circles for a 1988 photograph he took in Los Angeles of David Lynch and his muse Isabella Rossellini, at the height of their “Blue Velvet” fame. In the black-and-white photo, the filmmaker fondles Rossellini’s face, looking into her soul not as a human being, but as a vessel for an idea. He’s a puppeteer, and she his puppet.
That’s very much how the German-Australian Newton perceived his mainly female subjects, and Gero von Boehm’s new documentary “Helmut Newton: The Bad and the Beautiful” spends the majority of its short, yet encompassing running time talking to those women, whom Newton clearly idolized. It’s a striking lineup of talking heads: Rossellini herself,...

When you look at the photographs of Helmut Newton, with their spectacularly cold and severe Amazon-women-on-the-moon erotic shock value, and you try to imagine the man behind the camera (it’s sort of hard not to), you tend to picture him as a figure every bit as kinky and forbidding as the outrageous things he’s photographing. There’s a famous shot of Newton: the clowning-around photograph of him wearing high heels (pictured above), which only enhanced his image as a Eurotrash decadent who turned his fantasies into flesh.
But in “Helmut Newton: The Bad and the Beautiful,” , Newton emerges as friendlier and more “normal” than you’d expect — though he does have a mischievous twinkle that suggests a lot.
The documentary was shot when Newton was in his early 80s, and he’s disarmingly ageless, with floppy thick hair and circular glasses setting off a face that grins...

One of the great photographers of the 20th century, even if you have yet to hear the name Helmut Newton, you have certainly seen one of his photos. After fleeing Nazi-occupied Germany when he was a teenager and finding photographer work in Singapore, his career would take him across the world, eventually working for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Playboy, and much more. The German-Australian photographer’s life and work is now the subject of a new documentary.
Directed by Gero von Boehm and featuring interviews with Grace Jones, Isabella Rossellini, Anna Wintour, Charlotte Rampling, Marianne Faithfull, Claudia Schiffer, Nadja Auermann, and more, the first trailer has now landed ahead of a Kino Marquee release beginning next week. As one can see in the Nsfw preview (not that you are actually at work right now), the artist was best known for capturing women in starkly beautiful black-and-white photos.

“Helmut Newton: The Bad and the Beautiful” will have its virtual theatrical release on July 24 through Kino Marquee’s virtual cinema platform, which works with more than 400 arthouse theaters and organizations. The documentary was expected to have its world premiere at Tribeca this year. 2020 would have marked the German-Australian’s 100th birthday.
Newton was one of the masters of image making and a trailblazing art and fashion photographer whose reputation endures today, even after his death in 2006 after a car crash.
The docu tracks the artist’s life through five decades, from his beginnings in Berlin to New York, Paris, Monte Carlo and Rome. It features rare home videos, behind-the-scenes archival footage, and countless photographs. Known to be both provocative and inspiring, Newton once said, “If...

Forty-five years ago this week, Elton took “Bennie and the Jets” to Number One on the Hot 100. And all this time later, we still know precious little about the fictional rock band at the center of the song other than the fact that lead singer Bennie has electric boots and a mohair suit, and her “weird and wonderful” group the Jets seem like some sort of glam outfit. All of this is told from the perspective of a crazed fan talking to her friends Candy and Ronnie about the band.

Thanks to leaked audio posted by Page Six, we learned that Kanye West had something of a meltdown backstage at Saturday Night Live after some of his staging was compromised. He went on to call Taylor Swift "fake-ass" and added that he's "50% more influential" than any living human being, then comparing himself to director Stanley Kubrick more than once. Is he obsessed with the man who brought us 2001: A Space Odyssey? One of Kanye's first mentions of Kubrick came as he described the making of "Flashing Lights," his 2008 music video. Touting the video's production, he said, “Look at it graphically, how it starts. With the car, the orange sky, the color palettes, the blue sky, the car pulling up with the orange headlights. And just the beautiful women, taking the Helmut Newton type photo and bringing it to real life and crashing it against Jim Henson and George Lucas type whimsy and taking,...

The photoshoot also includes pictures of Jenner posed in a wheelchair, which led to outcries on social media and from disability advocates saying that the images are offensive.

But Interview says the shoot plays with ideas of power and subjectivity, and that it was not intended to be offensive.

This story first appeared in the Dec. 5 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Benedikt Taschen is the showman of book publishing. His most famous gamble — 1999's Sumo, a mega-tome of photos by Helmut Newton that weighs 66 pounds and stands more than 2 feet tall — sold out its limited print run of 10,000 copies. The original list price, a cool $1,500, has made for retail sales of at least $15 million. Cosmetics brand Nars is just the latest big fashion name to fall under the spell of Rampling's cool, elegant beauty
From Catherine Deneuve's elegant Louis Vuitton campaign to Jacky O'Shaughnessy's rather more revealing shots for American Apparel, there's no denying that the fashion industry is wising up to the power of older models. Today, cosmetics company Nars followed suit, hiring Charlotte Rampling, 68, as its latest face.
The actor will appear in pictures to coincide with the brand's 20th anniversary in September. Though Nars has a history of hiring models in their 40s, including Stella Tennant and the grey-haired supermodel Kristen McMenamy, Rampling is the oldest so far. She is also a style icon long adored by the fashion industry, having been shot by some of its edgiest photographers. In 1973, Rampling posed naked and smoking for Helmut Newton. In 2004, Juergen Teller shot her in crumpled bedsheets for a series of campaign shots for Marc Jacobs.

Given her vast experience in the entertainment industry, Dita Von Teese is no stranger to captivating an audience in any context.
And the burlesque queen looked gorgeous as she strutted down the runway for the Jean Paul Gaultier’s Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2014 show.
Dita was the center of attention in her flirty butterfly-themed getup teamed with black stockings and black heels with red soles.
Last month, Miss Von Teese weighed in on the recent controversy caused by Miley Cyrus- “I'm not someone who is appalled by Miley Cyrus, thinking it's vulgar. I love the very beautiful combined with the vulgar. The problem is, I don't find it very beautiful. I'm more interested in looking at a Helmut Newton photograph of fetishistic situations and nudity and eroticism ... that drives my imagination, not the everyday vulgarity.”...

Macho and egotistical John Huston dominates Anjelica's vividly written, fascinating memoir
Anjelica Huston's first starring screen role – directed by her father John – was in 1969's A Walk with Love and Death. The only review she quotes in her memoir is John Simon's: "There is a perfectly blank, supremely inept performance by Huston's daughter Anjelica, who has the face of an exhausted gnu, the voice of an unstrung tennis racket, and a figure of no discernible shape."
No preening luvvie, this one. And pace the crass Mr Simon (reviewing her looks rather than her acting) we know Huston is, or became, a good actor. Her performance in The Witches gave my little sister nightmares not for weeks, but years. It turns out that she can also really write. What's more, she has a story to tell.
Huston grew up in an atmosphere of immense privilege and occasional emotional deprivation. This involving memoir falls,...

What a busy twelve months it’s been for costume design. Really though, this art, or craft, or business (Deborah Nadoolman Landis insists it is definitely a business) gets more talked about each year. 2013 was especially exciting however as it seemed every month something even more thrilling arrived to fawn over. In the last few weeks alone we have had The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Sleepy Hollow, and now American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street on the horizon. Dipping back further, it was Stoker that got us excited about subtext, The Great Gatsby that slammed the lid on that twenties revival once and for all, and Behind the Candelabra that put Michael Douglas in a 16ft fox fur cape and white brocade jumpsuit.

From day one, Kat Graham's music has demanded respect and required her listeners do as well. Four empowering original anthems later and Kat Graham has released her most powerful and personal song to date with Power, which is as energizing as it is catchy.
The 90s-inspired lyric video dropped earlier this month and now Kat is opening up to ETonline about the thought-process that went into creating this black and white winner. I also found out her grand musical plan and got her take on the now-filming fifth season of The Vampire Diaries!
ETonline: What appealed to you about Power?
Kat Graham: It's a strong song but vulnerable and epic. I always have songs that are all about being empowered and being very self-sufficient, but I never felt I like I had a song that represented how I feel about my partner. I feel like the best art is a reflection of your life and...
