A handsome American ends up stranded on an alien ship, manned by an unusual alien crew, where he falls in love with its resident warrior woman. It's not "Guardians of the Galaxy," it's "Farscape," the Australian-American sci-fi series! The series was created by Rockne S. O'Bannon and Brian Henson with alien designs courtesy of the Jim Henson Company, including several puppets that served as central characters. "Farscape" is funny, campy, and weird as hell, setting it apart from not only its television contemporaries but all other sci-fi shows. "Farscape" ran for four seasons from 1999-2003, and while it wasn't as popular as some of the other big sci-fi shows, it has a devoted cult following that really loves it.
In a retrospective for the show's 25th anniversary at IGN, Henson shared his inspiration for the show and what he and O'Bannon were trying to do with "Farscape." With its wacky...

The genre of science fiction is one of the most popular: it was back then and it is now. However it seems that there are only a few sci-fi shows that are getting enough praise nowadays, and the rest of the not less brilliant series are being sidelined.
One of such shows is definitely Farscape, created by Rockne S. O'Bannon. The series premiered in 1999 and ran up until it was canceled on its season 4 in 2003 because of being too expensive to produce.
Despite its 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Farscape remains a show that only true sci-fi fans know about. This exciting Australian-American show is about an astronaut named John Crichton. A specialist from Earth, he was thrown into a distant part of the universe and ended up as part of the crew of a fugitive alien spaceship.

25 years ago The Sci-Fi channel (SyFy these days) brought onto the airwaves a series unlike any ever seen before. Farscape took the idea of weird and ran with it in a universe filled with the bizarre, the beautiful, and both at the same time.
Created by Rockne S. O’Bannon, the man behind Alien Nation, Farscape introduced viewers to creatures and aliens of all different shapes and sizes. Some of them were people and others were beyond anything we could imagine. And we all saw it and experienced it alongside lost astronaut and scientist John Crichton, played by Ben Browder. Crichton was the only Actual human around and was the perfect stand in for the rest of us.

Another TV shoot has been disrupted by striking writers, Michelle and Robert King’s supernatural drama for Paramount+ Evil, which has been filming its fourth season at Brooklyn Stages in Brooklyn.
“Evil has met its match,” veteran showrunner (and strike captain) Warren Leight wrote on Twitter at 1 Am Et Sunday alongside a video of three picketers walking in a small circle (you can watch it below). “Studio waited hoping they’d leave, because they didn’t want the headline that 3 guys walking for six hours shut the show down. But that’s what happened.”
Deadline has confirmed that no filming on Evil occurred Friday.
Writer Starlee Kane posted a photo of the trio with the caption “We Won,” reporting that the picketers “kept the crew there for hours, sitting on the sidewalk.” “We felt the solidarity. We’ll win this whole thing together,” Kane added.
A source at the guild confirmed the account.

The series centers on skeptical forensic psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), who joins soon-to-be Catholic priest David (Mike Colter) and contractor Ben (Aasif Mandvi) to investigate the church’s mysterious happenings and determine if there is a logical explanation, or if something truly supernatural is at work.

Wait until the kids go to bed to dive back into Robert and Michelle King’s “Evil,” which for its second season is now a Paramount+ original. Season 1 aired on CBS.
Since it will be dark outside (as established by our advice on timing), we recommend turning on every single interior light first. And then maybe carve out some time for a light-hearted comedy episode or two before you actually turn in for the night.
What we’re saying is this one is fully creepy.
Late Sunday night, Paramount+, which you may or may not have heard consists of a “mountain of entertainment,” revealed the teaser trailer for Season 2 of The Kings’ streaming thriller. The music alone would be the most haunting thing you heard today — and then the visuals join it.
The teaser trailer also unveils the sophomore season’s premiere date of June 20.

The teaser for the new season showcases vignettes from the “Evil” characters over a spooky soundtrack, with each of them fighting their own supernatural battles. Two CBS drama series, Evil and Seal Team, are relocating to Paramount+, ViacomCBS’ streaming service, for their new seasons.
Following intense talks, Paramount+ has closed deals with Evil and Seal Team producer CBS Studios. Negotiations for the move of another CBS Studios-produced CBS drama to Paramount+, Clarice, are still ongoing. All three shows had been on the bubble at CBS and all three have been strong digital performers. Seal Team ranks among the most-watched CBS dramas on Paramount+ this season, and Evil ranked similarly as one of the most-watched during its debut season last year.
“Our Studio and Network have a strong track record of developing high-quality dramas that have multiplatform success, and these series speak to that strength,” said George Cheeks, President & CEO of the CBS Entertainment Group. “These moves mark another example of how our linear and streaming ecosystem can strategically work together to maximize value for the...

It's no surprise that the decade that gave us Gordon Gekko and his infamous quote, "Greed is good," would be rife with films unpacking heavy social topics like police brutality, social inequality, ultra-violence, and in the case of Graham Baker's Alien Nation, racial tension, tolerance, and acceptance. Somehow I missed this film, despite it being the topic of conversation in many sci-fi and horror circles, not to mention that it influenced many other movies in the genre, from Neill Blomkamp's District 9 to last year's Bright, directed by David Ayer. It also spawned a number of Alien Nation-related products, including a series of comics and novels, a TV series on Fox by the same name that ran for one season in 1989, and five TV movies. So, without further ado, as the movie poster suggests, prepare yourselves for a dive into a buddy cop sci-fi action movie with a solid cast of characters,...

Following their success with "Gotham," Fox and Warner Bros. Television are re-teaming for "Global Frequency," another DC Comics series adaptation which Jerry Bruckheimer will executive produce.
A pilot production commitment has been handed out for the show which will chronicle the inner workings of an organization known as The Global Frequency, a privatized crime-fighting unit that receives funding from around the world to solve the crimes that the police cannot.
"Farscape" creator Rockne S. O'Bannon is penning the pilot script based on "Red" creator Warren Ellis' twelve-issue limited comic book series. The pair, Bruckheimer, and Jonathan Littman will all executive produce.
This will mark the third attempt at a TV series based on the property following a failed pilot in 2005 starring Michelle Forbes and Josh Hopkins, and a version on The CW in 2009 that only made it to script stage.

While they clearly have enormous plans for the cinema, Warner Bros. are continuing to plunder their DC comics catalogue for TV projects too. Like Gotham, one of their next major projects will be set up for the Fox channel. Jerry Bruckheimer will executive produce Global Frequency, based on the Wildstorm / Vertigo comics by Warren Ellis. Rockne S. O'Bannon (Farscape, Defiance) will be the principal writer. The comics revolve around a covert intelligence agency headed by the pseudonymous agent Miranda Zero. Independent, accountable to no-one, crowd-sourced and funded by mysterious benefactors, the agency's purpose is to guard against and tackle various worldwide secret government initiatives that may threaten the public at large. Agents are unknown even to each other until they're placed on assigments together, and the cases they face range from the paramilitary to the paranormal. There was actually a TV pilot once before in 2005, overseen by reality TV mogul...

According to Deadline, Fox has committed to producing a pilot to another DC Comics-inspired property. "Global Frequency," based on the 12-issue mini-series of the same name published by DC Comics' Wildstorm Publications, centers around a secret global organization that solves crimes by enlisting the services of 1,001 operatives. It was created by comic book writer Warren Ellis ("Red"), who will also be an executive produder for the show, along with Jerry Bruckheimer, Rockne S. O'Bannon and Jonathan Littman. O'Bannon, the creator of Farscape and Defiance, will be writing the pilot. If this feels like deja vu, it's because in 2005 Survivor producer, Mark Burnett, produced a pilot based on Global Frequency. It never aired. Though, it did leak online. You can view it below. Earlier this year we reported that a Farscape spin-off movie was in development and that it was being written by original Farscape scribe Justin Monjo. It was also reveled that co-producer Brian Henson, who secured the rights for the film, would be directing.
The news of a movie was confirmed by creator and showrunner of the series Rockne O'Bannon, who says it's still in the very early stages. When asked about it in an interview with NerdacyTV, he said,
"Yeah, yeah, it’s the worst kept secret. We’re far from production, but yeah, the first step is Justin [Monjo] working on a script for us. We’ll keep our fingers crossed."

Revolution delivers one of its better episodes in Why We Fight. Here's Billy's review...
This review contains spoilers.
2.17 Why We Fight
After so many disjointed and unsuccessful stories, those behind Revolution took an entirely different tack with Why We Fight, and the result was a singularly more watchable story. It wasn’t a huge surprise to discover that this was written by Rockne S. O'Bannon, who also penned the stronger stories this season, Come Blow Your Horn and Mis Dos Padres.
There was no hint this week of Aaron and his long walk back from Lubbock, if he’s not still there having another Matrix experience. And, with relatively little from Tom and Jason, they managed to write simple but effective narrative with the basic premise of answering the question of the hour for the majority of characters.

It was recently announced that original Farscape scribe Justin Monjo is writing a screenplay for a spin-off movie. The sci-fi series was created by Rockne S. O'Bannon and produced by Jim Henson Productions and Hallmark Entertainment. It ran from 1999 to 2003. It was supposed to get five seasons, but only ran four. The series ended on a cliffhanger, but co-producer Brian Henson secured the rights to Farscape and developed and directed a three-hour miniseries to wrap up the story that left fans hanging. It was called Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars.

The site reports that the film would follow the end of the series, focusing on the child of characters John Crichton and Aeryn Sun, who it is said was hidden on Earth because he gained special abilities. The focus of the film, which may be a television movie rather than a theatrical release, would see the child, now 19 years old, joining his parents on their spaceship for all kinds of cosmic adventures. Series co-creator Brian Henson would reportedly return to direct the film. Created by Rockne S. O'Bannon and Brian Henson, the series ran from 1999 to 2003...

Billy goes once more unto the breach. Here's his review of the Revolution season 2 opener...
This review contains spoilers.
2.1 Born in the USA.
As a child, I reacted strongly to those TV shows where the characters experienced extreme jeopardy. These sent me scurrying behind a chair until the 'danger' had passed. For entirely different reasons the return of Revolution gave me that same feeling again, that hiding might be a better option to confrontation.
It's not that anything that goes on in it is sufficiently dramatic enough to warrant a panic attack or even mild concern. It's just that I suffer with an inherent low incredulity level that if exceeded, makes me feel violently nauseated, and this TV show has a knack of sending me past that point within the first five minutes of each and every episode.
On that basis, you might reasonably wonder why I review it,...

Revolution may have been NBC's biggest new hit last season, but creator and executive producer Eric Kripke gave an honest assessment of his drama yesterday during the show's Comic-Con panel.
"As good as it was, it needs to be better," Kripke said. "It was a lot of story about a light switch."
So, how will the series be different when it moves to Wednesdays and returns on September 25? With the pendant issue now off the table, the executive said a lot more of the personal relationships can be opened up.
"It's always been a show about family and hope and love, and now they can all move towards each other and not just make it so obsessed about the power," he said. "I think you'll see much more intimate digging into character. Let's stop talking about the power and lets start talking about the world."

As a series, "Cult" was pretty much Doa. After being moved to a different night halfway through its freshman run, its cancelation was all but expected. But since the first season had already been filmed, The CW decided to burn off the remaining six episodes to give fans some closure, ending on Friday night (July 12) with the series finale, "Executive Producer Steven Rae." So did all our questions get answered?
Not even slightly. Sure, Nate was finally reunited with his brother Jeff after an entire season apart, but he was still obsessed with finding out the truth about the show within the show, "Cult." They found Philip's father's corpse in the basement of the Moon Hill house, and he had clearly been dead for a long time. The Moon Hill parents, all dead and buried in the walls of the the St. Clare Church, were killed by a group called the Erasmus.

Review Billy Grifter 12 Jun 2013 - 10:15
Defiance loses momentum in its latest episode. Here's Billy's review of I Just Wasn't Made For These Times...
This review contains spoilers.
1.8 I Just Wasn't Made For These Times
When the fragment fell from the sky last week, I couldn't imagine we wouldn't end up investigating the wreck, and that's exactly where this story started.
Predictably it fell for a purpose, and that was to deliver Gordon McClintock, ancient Nasa astronaut to Earth. If this sounds vaguely familiar, then it's because this is yet another reworking of the Buck Rogers concept, which was heavily mined with Farscape. I mention that only because Rockne S. O'Bannon is a writer and executive producer on this series, and was also the creator of Farscape. It seemed rather implausible that he wasn't turned to mush by the g-forces of the landing, but everyone in Defiance seems happy to see him.

Cult lives!
Sort of.
Creator Rockne S. O'Bannon Tweeted late last week that the canceled CW drama will air its remaining six episodes over three upcoming Friday nights. Starting June 28, Cult will air from 8-10 p.m.
ABC is following a similar pattern with its axed freshman dramas: Both 666 Park Avenue and Zero Hour will conclude their runs with original episodes this summer.
