Few shows have managed to achieve what Game of Thrones has. Over the years that it was on air, the show built itself a loyal fanbase who felt every emotion the characters felt. Game of Thrones established itself as a cultural phenomenon and gained followers throughout the globe. Not even the countless heartbreaking deaths in the show could turn its audience away.
Game of Thrones (2011-2019)One of the many things that Game of Thrones is known for, whether it’s the TV or the books, is its gruesome and hard-to-watch scenes. One scene that was a bit too much for the audience in particular was the one involving Ramsay Bolton and Sansa Stark on their wedding night in season five. We just unlocked horrible memories, didn’t we? Well, while the scene should have been difficult to film for Sophie Turner, the actress revealed that she actually enjoyed it.

Acting is often a pretty fun job, but sometimes it can get downright traumatizing. There are loads of stories about horror movie actors who were changed forever after their performances, like Shelley Duvall being tormented by Stanley Kubrick on the set of "The Shining." But that kind of on-set awfulness unfortunately exists in all kinds of entertainment, like the brutal HBO fantasy drama "Game of Thrones."
The series ran for eight seasons and featured some truly despicable characters doing awful things to one another, including torture. There's actually quite a bit of torture in "Game of Thrones," ranging from a man being disemboweled by a terrified rat in a bucket at Harrenhal to Ramsay Bolton's (Iwan Rheon) extended abuse of Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), who becomes the feeble-minded and broken Reek on account of it. Torture is big business in Westeros and Essos, and even the Queen of the Seven...

Prime Video’s “Fallout,” inspired by the video game series, is launching an awards campaign ahead of this year’s Emmys, with the streamer eyeing nominations for outstanding drama series among others. Variety has exclusively learned the Emmy campaign strategies for its main actors: Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell and Aaron Moten.
Goggins, portraying the mutated gunslinger Cooper Howard, aka The Ghoul, and Purnell, playing young Vault Dweller Lucy, are both in the running for lead acting categories. Moten, who plays Maximus, the Brotherhood of Steel’s squire, aims for a supporting actor nod.
Set in an alternate history post-apocalyptic Earth, “Fallout” depicts the lives of survivors in Vaults, designed to preserve humanity following nuclear catastrophe. More than two centuries later, a young woman Lucy emerges from Vault 33 to explore a devastated Los Angeles.

"Sex 'n bugs 'n sausage rolls." ShineHouse has revealed a new official US trailer for a British indie comedy called La Cha Cha, directed by filmmaker Kevin Allen. After first premiering in the UK in 2021 during the pandemic, the film is set for a VOD release in the US this April a few years later. Liam Hourican stars as Solti Buttering, who is on a road trip to scatter his grandfather's ashes. Along the way he stumbles upon "La Cha Cha", a closed holiday park with a lively off-grid retiree community. Struggling to keep the place going, feisty owner Libby and brother Damien unveil an unconventional plan to sustain it and the residents. This also stars Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, Sonny Ashbourne Serkis, Dougray Scott, Alfie Allen, Keith Allen, Llyr Ifans, with Rhys Ifans & Melanie Waters. Even with an impressive cast, looks as kooky and as strange as they come. Not sure it'll appeal to many!

Rtl Group is selling its Dutch business Rtl Nederland for €1.1B ($1.2B) in cash.
Dpg Media, a European operation with bases in Benelux and Denmark, has reached an agreement with Rtl to acquire the business, which comprises a family of free-tv and pay-tv networks and popular streaming service Videoland.
The all-cash transaction is expected to close in mid-2024, subject to regulatory approvals.
Rtl had previously attempted to merge its Dutch assets with John de Mol’s Talpa Network, but this was stopped by regulators on competition grounds. Today’s deals ties into the European giant’s belief that major networks on the continent need to either merge or strategically partner to compete with global streamers.
As such, part of the agreement sees Rtl and Dpg enter into a strategic partnership that spans technology, ad sales and content.

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the movie being reviewed here wouldn't exist.
They should've left him alone. In 2014's "John Wick," unsuspecting audiences watched in slack-jawed delight as Keanu Reeves announced that he was back and better than ever as the eponymous assassin with a well-founded grudge and an ungodly talent for headshots. What followed has to be considered one of the last decade's greatest success stories: an original action franchise that organically built up its fanbase on the strength of a bona fide movie star. This initially straightforward revenge story, kicked off when Alfie Allen and his goons picked the wrong car to steal and the wrong dog to kill, gradually revealed itself as a downright mythological fable that came to a fitting and (mostly) definitive end with this year's "John Wick: Chapter 4."

Before Keanu Reeves established himself as the action hero powerhouse we all know, the actor had to be convinced to do his own stunts for 1994's "Speed." Director Jan de Bont told The Huffington Post that Reeves thought a stunt involving his character jumping from a moving car to a bus was "way too dangerous," and only agreed to do it after de Bont told him it was "basically like stepping onto an escalator."
The director said that having actors perform stunts was "more realistic" and allowed the audience to "understand why the actor or the character reacts in a certain way." By the time Reeves came to star in 1999's "The Matrix," not only did he not require any convincing to do his own stunts, but he'd basically adopted the view of his "Speed" director as his own guiding principle. Suddenly, he was throwing himself in harm's way, telling...

The "John Wick" series is known for subverting action movie tropes. It's part of what has made the Keanu Reeves-led films such a success, with the latest entry, "John Wick: Chapter 4," headshoting a new franchise box office record on its opening weekend. The saga of Baba Yaga has now officially passed the $1 billion mark at the box office, proving that "John Wick" is a bonafide blockbuster franchise.
But while a huge part of the films' success has been upending genre clichés and basically inventing a whole new action subgenre — think "Nobody," "Atomic Blonde," and "Sisu" — sometimes the films just lean into the standard tricks of action movie-making. Case in point: the famous "Baba Yaga" sequence in 2014's "John Wick." “House of the Dragon” will be looking to chase down its predecessor “Game of Thrones” at this year’s Emmys. “Thrones” followed a battle for the Iron Throne between major political players while the looming threat of an age-old figure, the Night King, began to rise once more. “House of the Dragon,” meanwhile, set nearly 200 years before “Thrones,” follows the civil war between the Targaryen family as they fight to rule Westeros. Both shows feature astonishing casts with brilliant performances, but “House of the Dragon” will be looking to match or beat the Emmys feat that the “Thrones” cast managed — 10 acting nominations in a single year for its cast.

“Yellowjackets” will look to take the Emmys by storm again after the first season of the Showtime hit came away with seven bids including a nomination for Best Drama Series. The show follows a high-school girls soccer team that survives a plane crash. What seems at first a lucky escape, however, soon devolves into something far more nightmarish as they try to survive in the Canadian wilderness. That’s one half of the story, set in 1996. The other half of the series focuses on the survivors as adults 25 years later in 2021.
The show stars Melanie Lynskey in the lead role — the adult version of Shauna — while Elijah Wood joined the season two cast as Walter Tattersall, a detective who tries to help Christina Ricci‘s Misty. “The Lord of the Rings” alum is a welcome addition to the cast of “Yellowjackets” and fits right in alongside fellow child actor Ricci.

Ed Harris is hoping to contend at the Emmys one last time for the HBO sci-fi series “Westworld,” which signed off last year after four seasons. Based on Michael Crichton‘s 1973 movie of the same name, the show comes from Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan and follows a collection of people indulging themselves at a highly-sophisticated theme park that depicts the wild west and is populated by advanced AI.

"John Wick" is undoubtedly one of the most brutal action franchises of all time. Just look at the numbers. In the first three "John Wick" films, the beloved assassin kills a total of 299 people, with "John Wick: Chapter 2" serving as the deadliest film in the series. One eagle-eyed fan claims that John offs 140 people in "John Wick: Chapter 4" (depending on how you count), bringing his total kills to 439. This makes him one of the most prolific murderers in all of film history, as his body count is even higher than Michael Meyers' and Jason Voorhees' — combined!
Of course, not every kill makes a huge impact. John's weapon of choice is a pistol, and gunshots become almost mundane after a while. Don't get us wrong, being shot in the head is an absolutely brutal way to go, but there are different levels of viciousness in the "John Wick" universe.

This post contains spoilers for "John Wick: Chapter 4."
Everyone who loves film and television was shocked and saddened by the passing of the great character actor Lance Reddick at the far too young age of 60. This was just a week before the release of "John Wick: Chapter 4," in which Reddick returned as the Continental concierge Charon.
As well as closing the book on John Wick's story, "Chapter 4" also marks the end for Charon, who is ruthlessly killed by Bill Skarsgård's Marquis de Gamont in the first act. Obviously, the filmmakers had no idea that the actor himself would die so soon before the film's release, but there is an added poignancy and heartbreak both to Charon's death scene and how the other characters speak about him after he's gone. Ian McShane's Winston simply places the word "Friend" on his tombstone, and we can feel the weight of that.

Massive spoilers for "John Wick: Chapter 4" follow.
Throughout "John Wick: Chapter 4," both friend and foe ask John (Keanu Reeves) what he thinks the ending to his story is. His enemies are like a Hydra, Winston (Ian McShane) declares, and if he keeps chopping off heads, more will appear. That's why John seeks a duel with the Marquis de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård) so that he can permanently get the High Table off his back. John wins the duel, but it turns out the only freedom he can get is in death; Winston, the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne), and John's dog show up for the funeral.
Now, the tone of the ending feels definitive, but the execution leaves some leeway. After remembering his wife Helen (Bridget Moynahan), John collapses in a wide shot. Cue a cross-dissolve to New York City, then cut to his gravestone. It seems hard to believe John Wick...

“Game of Thrones” consistently landed loads of Emmy nominations for each of its eight seasons, including several each time for its eclectic cast. Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) was consistently the pick of the bunch, contending each and every season and winning a whopping four times. Now, it’s the turn of the “Thrones'” prequel, “House of the Dragon,” to step into the Emmy spotlight.
Here are five cast members who deserve Emmy consideration.
Emma D’Arcy
D’Arcy plays the older version of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, who is at the center of the entire series. D’Arcy, who is non-binary, imbued Rhaenyra with a steely power and held a commanding presence while on screen. She is a strong contender for Best Drama Actress, ranking just behind Melanie Lynskey (“Yellowjackets”) and Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”) and just ahead of Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), and Sharon Morgan...

When you think of John Wick you probably don’t think of slasher films. But Wick has single handedly killed nearly three hundred folks across a mere three films. That’s around double the amount Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers have. Put together.
Still, as Harry in True Lies puts it, “Yeah….but they were all bad.” Let’s say they were hunting you, however. Who would you be more scared of? A slasher icon or the Baba Yaga himself? Do we need to add “Don’t kill dogs or steal cars” to Randy’s Scream rules of surviving a horror movie? Wick’s victims, well, they all live in their own personal horror movies.
Let’s have a look at the top five gnarliest John Wick kills, so far…

The "John Wick" series has always had an exciting roster of actors. The first film had Willem Dafoe and John Leguizamo. The second one gave us our "The Matrix" reunion with Laurence Fishburne. The third one gave us Anjelica Huston and Halle Berry. And the fourth one expands things even further by adding Bill Skarsgård and Donnie Yen. Plus, you have the always-welcome Ian McShane and the late, great Lance Reddick across all four. When it comes to the series' villains, though, they make some rather unexpected choices.
Okay, the first film featured Alfie Allen and Michael Nyqvist as the antagonists, which are names that make sense, but the big bad of "John Wick: Chapter 2" is Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio, someone most people in the United States at least couldn't pick out of a lineup. Then "John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum" rolls around, and while a good number of people would...

For those who've been following along on John Wick's increasingly labyrinthine journey back into the shadowy assassin underworld, things are much different for Keanu Reeves' coldblooded killer with an affinity for dogs and muscle cars (and guns ... lots of guns) than they were when he first burst upon the scene back in 2014. The more grounded and intentionally vague original movie only ever teased the hidden dealings behind The Continental hotel and its assorted trigger-happy society of patrons, peeking out just on the edge of every frame. Since then, every sequel has dived deeper and deeper into the world-building of the "John Wick" franchise and now, well, audiences have an entire mythology to keep track of as we steamroll toward this week's release of "John Wick: Chapter 4."

Lammas Park, the BAFTA award-winning production company helmed by Steve McQueen, hosted an advance screening of their keenly anticipated latest short films this week.
The private event, in front of a full house at London’s Picturehouse Central, saw the screenings of “i and i,” directed by Samona Olanipekun, and “Young Hot Bloods,” directed by Jade Ang Jackman, before they hit this year’s festival circuit.

I remember when the initial release of "John Wick" had folks curious about Keanu Reeves going into action mode to avenge the death of his adorable beagle. Nearly a decade later, however, the "John Wick" franchise has become a world with a rich mythology that goes beyond canine killers, and upcoming spin-offs like "Ballerina" and "The Continental" will open this universe up even further. One of the most interesting things about the "Wick" movies, however, is that there are no Hans Gruber-like masterminds behind the plots against Reeves' character, but rather antagonists who are pulling strings from a safe distance.
Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Riccardo Scamarcio, and Asia Kate Dillion have all played adversaries to Wick himself, but they're beholden to upholding the larger picture that is the High Table, an organization that's been around longer than most world institutions. Over 35 U.K. organizations have already thrown their weight behind the campaign, including Aardman, Banijay, Disney, Framestore and Warner Bros Studios Leavesden.
“With Behind The Scenes Week we want the industry to take a moment to look around, and to cheer and thank each other for the amazing contributions each and everyone makes to film, TV, and cinema!” said Film and TV Charity CEO Alex Pumfrey.

Rogue Heroes tells the creation story of an elite British special forces unit during World War II in Northern Africa.
Jack O’Connell, who plays Paddy Mayne, and Alfie Allen, who plays Jock Lewes, recently sat for a discussion with uInterview founder Erik Meers where they revealed what it was like shooting the series in the desert.
“We all go to drive dune buggies in the desert,” Allen said. “That was pretty great. That was at a time when everyone was being Covid conscious and this was kind of like, ‘Okay, we’re getting out of the cage.’ When they did let us out into the wild, they let us use the desert dune buggies. Huddling together in the sand storms was hilarious in itself and also getting a real sense of what it was like out there in terms of the real like environment for the real-life soldier.”
O’Connell shared his favorite scene to shoot.

On November 16, 1941, the Special Air Service — an ill-equipped fledgling unit of British soldiers — prepared to parachute into the Libyan desert, behind enemy lines. Sandstorm blizzard conditions made the covert op not just ill-advised but suicidal. As covered in an early hour of the WWII drama, Rogue Heroes, a pilot assigned to deliver the troops to their target spot reminds the undisciplined but determined Sas commanders, “The wind is 30 knots — 15 knots is considered unsafe.” With crazed bravado, Paddy Mayne (Jack O’Connell) shouts back, “War! Is! F***ing unsafe!” (Credit: Epix) Planes set to go, Sas leader David Stirling (Connor Swindells) walks off with Mayne and tactician Jock Lewes (Alfie Allen), saying of the confrontation, “I think it went rather well!” “When I discovered the true story of what happened, it was so outrageous,” creator Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) says of the Sas, formed in reaction to Britain’s bumbling command. The unit’s off-the-grid effectiveness,...

Plot: Based on Ben Macintyre’s best-selling book of the same name, the series centers on David Stirling, an eccentric young officer who is hospitalized after a training exercise gone wrong. Convinced that traditional commando units don’t work, Stirling creates a radical plan that flies in the face of all accepted rules of modern warfare. He fights for permission to recruit the toughest, boldest, and brightest soldiers for a small undercover unit that will create mayhem behind enemy lines. More rebels than soldiers, Stirling’s team is every bit as complicated, flawed, and reckless as it is brave and heroic.
Review: Steven Knight has long been involved in scripting some of the more intriguing films and television series of the last few decades. Somehow, Knight has made everything from chess (Pawn Sacrifice) to blindness (AppleTV+ series See) into thrilling storytelling. His most popular project is the recently concluded historical crime series Peaky Blinders.
