Judi Pulver, the singer, songwriter and keyboardist who had a second, four-decade career as a music sales executive with The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, has died. She was 77.
Pulver died Tuesday morning at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica after a battle with lung cancer, her husband, composer and guitarist Don Peake, told THR.
Pulver’s 1973 album, Pulver Rising, was released by MGM Records and featured the single “Dancing on the Moon,” which she performed on television the following year and as the opening act on a Mott the Hoople tour.
The Connecticut native moved into sales and marketing when she created the music advertising business at THR in 1980. “She told them, ‘I believe I can sell music ads because I’m an artist,’” Peake noted. “They said, ‘Go and sit over there and see what you can do.’”

“The score for the film was created by composer Mark Korven, the mastermind behind The Witch, The Lighthouse, and Into the Tall Grass. Korven is a Toronto-based award winning composer and multi-instrumentalist. He is known for his innovation and experimental approach to film scoring. In 2016, Korven conceived the notorious horror musical instrument, The Apprehension Engine.”
In other words, a unique horror film score worth grabbing on vinyl.

It's hard to believe now that it has been over a year since we lost Wes Craven, one of the all-time great horror filmmakers who knew better than most how to truly scare an audience. His special gift wasn't that he was the most polished of directors; with only a few exceptions (like Scream), his movies were mostly rough edges. I happen to like rough edges. No, Craven's talent was for zeroing in on our primal fears and realizing them onscreen. He didn't want to spook us with tricks and jump scares and he rarely wanted the horror to be "fun." He wanted to shake us to our cores. This was especially true in much of his early work, primarily The Last House on the Left, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Hills Have Eyes, out now in a stunning limited edition Blu-ray from Arrow Video.

Arrow Video digs its sharp talons into Wes Craven's dirt 'n' Bowie Knife slaughter-fest horror picture, yet another strange travel advisory not to go anywhere, 'cause strangers might be cannibals. But hey, the movie works, and like much of Craven's filmography, it sticks its neck way out into dangerous territory. Throughout a very prolific and sometimes uneven career as an incredibly notable genre filmmaker, Wes Craven’s aesthetic often grapples with issues of revenge and adolescence, having given birth to the iconic The Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream franchises, both series exploring notions of metatextual reinvention. Cutting his teeth with grindhouse horror titles that have since been re-made, many of his more obscure offerings have languished in the critical realm of inconsequential desolation. But it’s his 1991 offering The People Under the Stairs which is worthy of reappraisal, arguably the filmmaker’s best and most bizarre work. Campy, hysterical, creepy, and replete with a socially conscious message, it’s an early 90s cult classic that retains its power to delight and weird out.

Just like VHS tapes, the past couple years have seen a big time resurgence in vinyl records, and companies like Mondo and Death Waltz Recording Company have been working hard to give us horror fans incredible releases to stick the ole needle on. One of the newest companies on the scene is the Belgium-based One Way Static Records, which was just launched this year and has already made a huge impact with a release of David Hess' Last House on the Left soundtrack - made available on not just vinyl but also CD and even cassette. As of yesterday, the company made their second release available for pre-order, and they've once again found vinyl inspiration in the early works of Wes Craven.
