Steven Moffat has written the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas Special entitled Joy To The World.
Almost as soon as Russell T Davies announced he was returning as showrunner on Doctor Who, fans began speculating about who else might be returning. Top of the list for many was Steven Moffat, who’s clocked up more Doctor Who scripts than any other writer.
Rumour turned into fact earlier this year, when it was confirmed that Moffat had indeed returned to the fold to pen the third episode in Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson’s debut series, entitled Boom. Set to be darker in nature than the opening two episodes, the official synopsis reads as follows:
Caught in the middle of a devastating war on Kastarion 3, the Doctor is trapped when he steps on a landmine. Can he save himself and Ruby, plus the entire planet… without moving?

Considering the slippery prevarication that led up to the official word that former showrunner Steven Moffat had written a new episode of Doctor Who for series 14, this next confirmation arrived with relative ease.
In a very enjoyable and in-depth interview by Tom Spilsbury at TV Choice Magazine ahead of Moffat’s new episode “Boom” airing this weekend, the ex-Who boss confirmed rumours that yes, he’s written this year’s Christmas Special.
Moffat told TV Choice that the 2024 special might well be his final ever Doctor Who episode, but then again, it also might not be.
“I’m not against doing another one at all, but I don’t have any tremendous visceral need to do another one. As I got to the end of Boom, and as I got to the end of Joy To The World [his upcoming Christmas special], I did think, ‘Is that it? Is that the final moment?’ I...

Even with floor-level expectations, this romcom is incoherent and grating, mistaking teen camp for charm
At this point, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve had to start a review by suggesting the streaming business has lowered our standards. The expectation, now, is cheap-looking, derivative and disposable – and the aim is purely consumable. At best, these B-tier streaming movies are fun, kicky, or knowingly smooth-brain. At worst, they’re offensive to your time.
How to Date Billy Walsh, a new teen movie from Prime Video, falls on the latter end of that spectrum. The England-set romcom from veteran TV director Alex Pillai, whose credits include Riverdale, Bridgerton and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, commits the cardinal sin in this content glut: it is boring, and its glaring flaws – from tone to shot choice to premise – only serve to underscore its failings, and not in a fun, Madame Web way.

Charithra Chandran is not in Season 3 of “Bridgerton,” the British star has confirmed, but she has a range of other projects coming up.
Chandran, who is of Indian heritage, will produce a reality TV series based on ancient Sanskrit-language text the “Kama Sutra.” While the text was primarily designed as an art of living guide, many of the film and TV interpretations of it have focused on its sexual aspects.
“I’m working on a reality TV show, which is inspired by the ‘Kama Sutra,’ [for] which I would be just behind the scenes. I would just be producing obviously, not on the show,” Chandran told Variety. “The ‘Kama Sutra’ is actually an ancient Hindu text, but in the West it has this not-so-pleasant, or positive, reputation and connotation. And it’s about taking ownership back of things that belong to us and our culture, and actually showing the beauty and...

Originally created by Canadian writing duo Michel d’Astous and Anne Boyer (“Taboo”) for Bell Media’s Quebecois streamer Noovo, the Slovakian adaptation will be produced by Piknik Pictures (“Traffic Light”). Currently in pre-production, with casting in progress, shooting will commence later this year ahead of a 2024 premiere on TV Joj.
Kelly Wright, Ki’s MD of distribution, described the show as “something of a conversation starter because of the anti-hero’s controversial lifestyle choices,” with Marcel Grega, CEO of TV Joj adding that the show “is the perfect example of a modern drama that opens subjects that are considered taboo.”

“Escape From Kabul Airport,” a documentary airing on BBC Two in September, will tell the inside story of the 18 days in August 2021, when the U.S. withdrew its troops from Afghanistan, and the subsequent evacuation of thousands of Afghan citizens from Kabul airport after the Taliban seized the city.
The documentary is an Amos production for the BBC, in association with HBO and in collaboration with Arte France. It is produced by Emmy and BAFTA-winning Dan Reed (“Leaving Neverland”) and directed by Jamie Roberts (“Four Hours At The Capitol”).
The film combines never before seen on-the-ground archival footage from the evacuation, alongside interviews with evacuees, eye-witnesses, U.S. Marines and Taliban fighters.
Roberts said: “When the images of the chaotic Kabul airlift flashed across the news I immediately wanted to know more about what this historic moment looked and felt like on the ground, through the eyes of the people who were there.

Happy Friday, fellow "Riverdale" fans. We hope you guys enjoyed this past Wednesday's episode 6. It ended with quite a startling scene as Alice basically had Betty committed and hauled off to that horrid halfway house or whatever! Alice has been getting on our nerves all season long, and this was the last straw for us. If anyone should be committed, it's freaking Alice! They released it a couple of weeks back. Before we go over it, we must serve up our spoiler teaser warning.Yes, this article does contain a few spoiler teasers. If you don't want to see any spoiler teasers, it's highly suggested that you stop reading this article right now. For those...

Can Da Vinci's Demons really spare the time for a dream episode at this stage? Here's our review of season three's The Labrys...
This review contains spoilers.
3.4 The Labrys
An adorable little boy playing with toys that look suspiciously like models of Da Vinci's famous tanks and castles. Mother's getting water from the well... and by mother I mean Lucrezia Donati. The little boy's name is Andrea, after a famous teacher of artisans. And the boy's father? Leonardo Da Vinci, of course, who emerges from his workshop with a model of his famous gyrocopter. Da Vinci is being summoned to Rome, but the trip will be dangerous because the Italian peninsula has dissolved into civil war between the Sons of Mithras and the forces of the Horns of the Increate.
If this is confusing to you, what with the creepy cave echoing with chanting voices and the...

Victim
Stars: Ashley Chin, Ashley Madekwe, Jason Maza, Anna Nightingale, Michael Maris, Letitia Wright, Shanika Warren-Markland, Natasha Sparkes, David Harewood | Written by Ashley Chin, Michael Kyei, Michael Maris, Adrian Scott | Directed by Alex Pillai
It’s quite strange watching Victim after recently viewing GBH because that was a British film that escaped the trappings of being a normal “urban” drama that is almost drowning the industry right now. You expect Victim to be very “urban”, giving an impression it’s about a life of crime, gangs and a typical almost cliché view of “life in London” which is almost threatening to be over used, but surprisingly it’s a film that pulls you into the security of thinking yes; it’s just another one of those typical “urban” films then blows that misinterpretation away.
When Tia a country-girl (meaning rich, lives in a big house in the country) moves to...

Silent Souls (15)
(Aleksei Fedorchenko, 2010, Rus) Igor Sergeev, Yuriy Tsurilo, Yuliya Aug. 78 mins
Even by Russian standards, this lyrical road movie is a strange world of its own. It's a journey back in time, as much as across a remote landscape, with a friend helping his boss to give his deceased wife her last rites, according to their ancient tribal ways. Along the drive, we're steeped in strange folklore involving vodka, rivers, small birds and ornamental pubic hair. Is it for real? Or an elaborate joke told with a very straight face? Does it matter?
The Five Year Engagement (15)
(Nicholas Stoller, 2012, Us) Emily Blunt, Jason Segel, Chris Pratt. 124 mins
The obstacle to true love is built into the title of this romcom, but it's at least smartly handled, as high-flyer Blunt keeps her fiance in perpetual limbo.
Where Do We Go Now? (12A)
(Nadine Labaki, 2011, Fra/Leb/Egy/Ita) Claude Baz Moussawbaa,...

Alex Pillai's urban melodrama has energy, despite the EastEnders-ish moments
Alex Pillai's urban melodrama Victim has a bizarre and overwrought ending and a few EastEnders-ish moments. But there's some energy there. Ashley Madekwe plays innocent Tia, who comes to London to study, staying with her tough cousin; this is Charmaine (Shanika Warren-Markland) who seems to be living the high life, partying and hanging out with male friends including Tyson (Ashley Chin). The awful truth is that Charmaine and her mates are running a honey-trap scam: they seduce drunken City types in clubs, go back with them to their expensive flats, then Tyson and his crew move in, beat them up and steal everything. Inevitably, a romance develops between Tia and Tyson. It doesn't quite come together, yet there's some rough'n'ready force.

From the moment that producer Danny Donnelly’s name is plastered all over the opening credits of Victim, it’s probably best not to expect too much, given his previous producing credit on Adam Deacon’s horrid vehicle Payback Season earlier this year. Though it is better-assembled than many similar derivative crime dramas, there’s nothing here we haven’t seen done better elsewhere.
When nice country girl Tia (Ashley Madekwe) comes to stay with her cousin Davina (Anna Nightingale), her kindly, naïve attitude disturbs the indelicate balance of Davina’s life, which primarily involves acting as a distraction while her gang of friends commit robberies. Meanwhile, lad Tyson (Ashley Chin) – who has caught the eye of both Tia and Davina – is trying to escape a life of crime altogether, and inevitably, this tension all comes to a head with unpleasant results.
It tries painfully hard...

It ain't no Survivors but ITV's six part production of The Last Train is another great example of the love our friends across the pond have for post-apocalyptic television. The show, which takes on a decidedly more science fictiony spin than it's 70s sister show, is about a group of people who get trapped in a train car and frozen for many years. When they finally wake up, they emerge into a world devastated by a meteor strike. Together, they must reconcile their differences in order to find refuge in a wasteland overrun by killer hounds, the odd mute marauder, and one touchy panther.
Despite being remembered fondly by hard-core fans, the show premiered back in 1999 to little fanfare and was rarely seen again. No VHS,...
