Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness has opened up about his battle with tonsil cancer in a new interview.
Ness’ conversation with Matt Pinfield on Los Angeles’ 95.5 Klos comes after the punk legend shared a positive health update on Instagram about a month ago, revealing that he was finished with chemo and focused on rehabilitation. That was recently followed by Social Distortion announcing a co-headlining Spring 2024 US tour with Bad Religion, as well as a Fall 2024 run of rescheduled North American dates making up for the planned Summer 2023 tour that was originally postponed upon Ness’ diagnosis.
“Well, first of all, obviously it wasn’t in the plan,” Ness told Pinfield of his diagnosis [as transcribed by Blabbermouth]. “So the shock is a lot just to take in. But, yeah, the surgery — I mean, you can hear it in my voice. It’s still weak, just talking.”
He went on to say that he still has...

Track by Track is our recurring feature series in which artists guide readers through each song on their latest release. Today, New York City rocker Des Rocs give us insight into his sophomore album, Dream Machine.
Des Rocs, aka Danny Rocco, sports the silhouette of a young Elvis Presley, and his brand of self-described “bedroom arena rock” tugs at the rock ‘n’ roll of the past with the intent of making the present a bit more tolerable.
Fused with the wit of an artist forging his path in the competitive New York City circuit, his music transcends pastiche and is frankly refreshing. There’s tangible joy: bombastic chords, anthemic Queen-esque choruses, glam-metal swagger. In a gloomy world where many musicians are making gloomy music, Des Rocs sounds like the damn antidote.
“It’s 2:10 in the morning / I’m on the Bqe … Come on take a joy ride / In my dream machine.

"You've been dealt a bad deal… so don't make it worse." Did anyone know about this? There's a brand new 2022 remake of a classic 1940s film noir film titled D.O.A., premiering soon at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival. The original D.O.A., directed by Rudolph Maté & starring Edmond O'Brien, was about a P.I. named Frank Bigelow who is told he's been poisoned and has only a few days to live, so he tries to find out who killed him and why. "While the story shares a title and premise with the original movie… most of the plot elements are original," the director of this new one explains. "With the clock ticking, Bigelow descends into a world of crooks and double-dealers, treacherous women and violent men, slashing through a tangle of conspiracies to figure out who 'killed' him & why." This one stars John Doe as Frank, with Paola Duque,...

When Leslie Fram, formerly a top programmer and morning cohost in radio’s alternative format, made the jump from FM to television by coming aboard the CMT network as the VP in charge of music in 2011, she liked almost everything she had to learn as a quick study in country music. That ranged from the greater collegiality of country’s artist community to how much earlier the music showcases started in Nashville than they had in New York. She didn’t even have that much reason to miss rock ‘n’ roll, when Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and Eric Church were putting on what basically amounted to rock shows.
There was just one thing she couldn’t get used to — and still hasn’t: Where were the women, in a genre that once had Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks as its figureheads and superstars?

How are we supposed to live without Michael Bolton? “American Song Contest” doesn’t have to answer that question just yet, as Connecticut-based Bolton and his song “Beautiful World” could still place next week through a combination of votes through fans and jurors.
But the early lead on night one of NBC’s U.S. take on the Eurovision Song Contest went to Rhode Island’s Hueston, wearing his heart on his sleeve with the tear-jerker “Held on Too Long.” Hueston most impressed the 56-member juror panel — which includes iHeartMedia chief programming officer/president Tom Poleman, Klos host and former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield and artist/songwriter/producer Ester Dean. He was the first from this group to qualify to move on from this round.

“No Cover,” a new competitive series backed by production entity Hit Parader, is promising to deliver the “next great unsigned original artist.” To aid in the search, the televised show has recruited celebrity judges Alice Cooper, Bishop Briggs, Gavin Rossdale, Lzzy Hale and Tosin Abasi.
Differentiating itself from shows like ABC’s “American Idol” and NBC’s “The Voice” — which mainly focuses on a singer’s interpretations of preexisting hit songs — “No Cover” judges artists and bands performing entirely original music. Season one will be shot inside West Hollywood’s legendary Troubadour and on location at the Sunset Marquis Hotel.
The winning artist or band will secure a six-figure recording contract with Sumerian Records, booking agency representation from UTA, management from the Shelter Music Group, festival slots via Danny Wimmer Presents, studio time at Nightbird Recording Studios (housed inside the Sunset Marquis), new gear from Gibson, branding endorsements, licensing opportunities and more.

Music magazine Hit Parader, published from 1942 to 2008, has been reimagined as a branded production studio for TV, film, live events and more, under the auspices of music biz and media veterans Ash Avildsen (pictured at left), Josh Bernstein (right) and Matt Pinfield (center). The first offerings under the Hit Parader moniker are slated to air — Covid-19 permitting — by the end of 2020, and include the original scripted series “Paradise City” and music competition TV shows “No Cover” and “Roadie Rage.” Platforms for the three programs will be announced shortly. A biopic of influential A&r exec Tom Zutaut, who was portrayed by SNL’s Pete Davidson in Motley Crue’s 2019 Netfilx film “The Dirt,” is also in the works.

“Made in Staten Island” follows a group of young Staten Island, New York hustlers as they work to step out from the shadows of the once mob-driven island. These friends will either choose wisely or fall prey to the mistakes of past generations, per MTV’s series description.

When you think of the public face of women in country, you think of Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris or any of the other artists who’ll be spotlighted on the “Cmt Artists of the Year” telecast Wednesday night. But if you live and work in Nashville, the first name that might instinctively spring to mind in connection with that phrase, even before any of the celebrities’, is that of Leslie Fram. The senior VP of music strategy for Cmt is indelibly associated with heightened attention to the issues facing women in the genre, not just as the driving force behind her network’s ongoing Next Women of Country initiative, but as a co-founder of the awareness group Change the Conversation.

Following the death of his former bandmate Scott Weiland, Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum called in to Matt Pinfield's Sirius Xm show for an emotional discussion of his complicated relationship with the singer. Members of Velvet Revolver, the supergroup Weiland fronted after he left Stone Temple Pilots, have previously issued a statement about Weiland's death, but Sorum went into even greater detail, calling his time with the singer the "highlight" of his career. "He was complicated, yes," Sorum said, in an interview that ranged from the specifics of Velvet Revolver's history to his admiration for his fellow artist. "But the artistry was magnificent.""I don't know how I felt initially because I can't say it was a shock, but I definitely wasn't expecting it, because I felt Scott was gonna be here longer than this," Sorum said. "People know that in the end, we had our differences and...

Scott Weiland, the former frontman of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, was found dead on his tour bus on Thursday. According to his official Facebook page, the 48-year-old singer "passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop" in Minnesota with his current band, The Wildabouts. Throughout the '90s, he enjoyed success with the Stone Temple Pilots and went on to help form the supergroup Velvet Revolver in 2002, joining Guns N' Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum. Scott battled substance abuse for years and checked himself into rehab in 2007. While it has not been confirmed that drugs played a part in his passing, it was reported that the singer went into cardiac arrest before his death. Former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield shared his condolences via social media shortly after the news of Scott's death broke, saying, "I am speechless and sad at the loss of my friend,...

"Portlandia" is back with all the weirdness that one city (and a handful of comedians) can bring. Season 3 promises to return to old characters -- faithful viewers will definitely see all of their favorite versions of stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein -- as well as new sketches.
But what sorts of Northwest insanity and '90s nostalgia can we expect specifically? Here are five things to know about the "Portlandia" season 3 premiere.
1. While there are, as always, a variety of sketches sprinkled throughout the half-hour show, the main theme of the first episode is a scheme to take back MTV. And by "take back," Fred and Carrie mean a return to videos and VJs and television not revolving around pregnant teenagers.
2. To accomplish this, our heroes enlist the help of some aging but familiar MTV names -- Kurt Loder, Tabitha Soren and Matt Pinfield. You'll be happy to know...

Series creators Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein led a conference call Tuesday, previewing the show's third season and winter special, which Brownstein described as "an 11th episode" distinct from the rest of the season. "We never show Portland as the rainy city that it can sometimes be," she said. "[It's] having the characters deal with the darkness and kind of dreariness of winter." TV Guide says that Arrow will be introducing Roy Harper and he'll be played by Teen Wolf alum Colton Haynes. This will only encourage my pleas that they introduce Cheshire into the series. (Sorry, was I making it obvious which was the super-hot super-team when I started reading comics?) Roy will be a love interest for Oliver's sister Thea, which is ridiculous because Thea is not an assassin with poisoned fingernails.
In further Arrow news, TV Guide talks with John Barrowman and asks if the "well-dressed man" is the Dark Archer, which is a bit of speculation that reminds me how little I remember of the Green Arrow comics I've read.
Production on the new season of Arrested Development has been suspended — to expand the original 10-episode season to run for 12 - 15 episodes, according to Deadline.

In Portland, Oregon, this September, a veritable Mount Rushmore of second-gen MTV gathered covertly in a darkened room lit mainly by an overhead projector: Kurt Loder, Tabitha Soren, and Matt Pinfield. The trio were planning a revolution in the form of a takeover of their old network, freeing it from the shackles of reality TV and bringing back music. After the network was secured, the group would go on air to announce the new regime, and they rehearsed their potential broadcast. "MTV headquarters was invaded by a band of music liberation people, and Tabitha Soren has the story," said Loder in grave tones recognizable to anyone who remembers the day Kurt Cobain killed himself or Milli Vanilli got exposed as lip-syncers. "Thank you, Kurt,” practiced Soren. “I'm down here on the first floor of 1515 Broadway, and I see a band of ... adults, looks like, busting through security. I'm...
