BAFTA has announced the winners of this year’s British Academy Children’s Awards. There were three first-time winners at the ceremony in London, including Emily Burnett who won the BAFTA for Performer for her role in The Dumping Ground; Lindsey Russell for Presenter for Blue Peter; and Bella Ramsay for her performance in The Worst Witch in the Young Performer category.
Dirk Campbell, also for The Worst Witch, won in the Director category. The coming-of-age film Leaving Care, following two care leavers as they navigate a series of firsts without the help of a family, won two BAFTAs: Content For Change and Teen.
CBeebies won Channel, the seventh time since the category was introduced in 2006.
Horrible Histories won Comedy, the sixth time it has won in this category. The Drama award was won by Creeped Out.

3.4 The Queen's Diamonds
So far, the opening three episodes of this series have been good and at times, great, television. This year's run had yet to really put a foot wrong with all the themes and plot machinations seemingly leading us to an explosive finale. Then The Queens Diamonds comes along. And that, to be frank, is all a bit of a mess.
Written by Jeff Povey (who has a good catalogue of staple British shows to his name, including Midsomer Murders), he tells us the story of the Queen of England’s missing gems, a bit of Aramis backstory as well as an expansion on Sylvie’s treasonous meetings and her developing relationship with Athos. That looks a lot, even on paper and it’s unfortunate...

Unrepped writer Richard Galazka’s romantic comedy Matinee Idol and Malachi Smyth’s Gateway 6 topped the annual Brit List of best unproduced screenplays. Both projects received nine votes. The list is compiled by UK producers, agents, distributors and sales companies, who aren’t allowed to vote for their own projects. Other qualifying criteria include receiving a minimum of three votes and not having featured on previous Brit Lists.
Previous films to appear on the Brit List include The King’s Speech, Welcome To The Punch, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and most recently The Riot Club.
Matinee Idol is being produced by Rooks Nest Entertainment. Sentinel Entertainment is behind Gateway 6, a futuristic sci-fi project. 42, one of the UK’s most dynamic production and management companies, had two projects on the shortlist: Jay Basu’s The Pier and Outside The Wire, from screenwriting duo Rowan Athale and Rob Yescombe
