Most nights, once the emails have been answered and the television has been reviewed, I pick up a pen and start writing postcards. Sometimes the messages are in support of Supreme Court Justices in Ohio, sometimes they’re for congressional candidates in South Carolina. The addresses pour in from a nonprofit trying to help get out the vote, and the postcards stack up on the bar cart next to my door. As the ink runs low and my hand starts to ache — it turns out typing all day and writing all night is not the path to healthy wrists — I often wonder: Is this helping? Like so many citizens desperate for change this November, I want to do something to help facilitate change, and I need to do something to ease my mounting anxiety.
I only bring this up because I sensed a similar yearning throughout “A West Wing Special,...

USA’s shows make up for small budgets with winning high concepts and appealing casts. Many of their series work entirely because of their superb eye for casting, using familiar faces and strong ensembles. These shows have also worked thanks to adding season-long meta-stories while solving case-of-the-week stories. As a result, the leads are generally put through the wringer, each taking a turn.
In the case of White Collar, the third season ended with Neal Caffrey (Matthew Bomer) on the run with an international manhunt launched to find the felon turned FBI advisor. You're Next is not really all that scary, but where it finds its charm is in the fact it expects and wants you to laugh at and with it. It's a gory little riff on a home invasion story a la The Strangers with a dose of Home Alone and When a Stranger Calls with the familiar, badass female survivor trope at its core. And all of this works in its favor, ultimately delivering a fun, if disposable horror entry worth a matinee ticket. The hard part is getting into the story because this film isn't boasting a wealth of acting talent as director Adam Wingard (V/H/S) does what he can with what he's given, but only his lead actress, Sharni Vinson, comes through unscathed of those that live longer than 20 minutes. The story revolves around the Davison family reunion at a secluded vacation house in the woods...

What a thrilling finale to "White Collar's" fourth season, huh fans?
We have to say -- as much as it was awful that James went on the run again, it did afford Matt Bomer some meaty material to work with. He absolutely killed that last scene in his apartment, which nicely mirrored the scene in the premiere where he got choked up as he welcomed his dad into his life. What a blow for Neal.
And what a blow for Peter. Obviously, we don't think the show is going to send one of its two main characters off to federal prison, but it'll be interesting to see how the show resolves Peter's innocence in Senator Pratt's death. It certainly doesn't look good.
How do you viewers feel about Agent Calloway? We think she's a fun foil for Neal and Peter. Do you think she really was in Pratt's pocket,...

Next week might be the season finale of "White Collar," but that didn't stop the creators from mixing things up in a dramatic way in the penultimate episode. Amanda Callaway is the new boss in town, and she's played by former "CSI: Miami" star, Emily Procter.
Amanda wasted no time establishing just why she is there. "Have a quick, high-profile win right out of the gate," she said. "It’s a wonderful way to show the bureau that this division is back on track." She also made it very clear she expected all of their results to be gotten "above board."
When Peter suggested he didn't know they were off track, she said bluntly, "Well, somebody did. Or else I wouldn’t be here."
But is that why she's there? Amanda is working with Senator Pratt, which means she could work to keep Neal from tracking down the evidence box...

Warning: If you have yet to watch Tuesday’s summer finale of White Collar, avert your eyes now. Everyone else, you may proceed…
Tuesday night’s mid-season finale of White Collar finally unmasked Neal’s father, and the mystery man was much closer than the con artist realized. Peter’s discovery that the real Sam had actually passed away a while ago blew Treat Williams’ character’s cover. And when a DNA matched confirmed it, Neal realized he’d been working alongside his pops for a while.
The big twist wasn’t a complete shocker, admits executive producer Jeff Eastin.

Neal is getting closer to the truth about his dad (and the identity of Ellen’s killer) on White Collar. But as you can see from this exclusive sneak at Tuesday’s episode (USA Network, 9/8c), first he has to convince Treat Williams’ Sam, a former undercover officer, to let him in on his plan to obtain some key evidence. And that will require one very big compromise: The FBI — Peter included — can’t be involved.

After CSI: Miami was canceled, I couldn’t help but wonder what the cast would be doing with all their free time and how long it would take some of them to bounce back and land new acting jobs. It doesn’t surprise me at all Emily Procter would be able to so quickly turn things around for herself – just look at her. She’s a got one hell of a look to her. I believe the proper phrase to describe her would be “hot as all hell.” With looks like that I’m more surprised she wasn’t given her own show to star in. Perhaps in due time. For now she’ll have to settle for doing a couple episodes on USA’s White Collar.

This is a big day in history for me, so pardon me if I sound a little insensitive and harsh, but CSI: Miami has been canceled after 10 years of being on CBS! I really wish I could say both Miami and CSI: NY were canceled, but at the last minute NY received a renewal, which I guess is okay. In my eyes, NY is definitely the lesser of two evils. Both have been on the bubble when it comes to renewal time for the past couple years; so I’m not surprised Miami had to go. It’s just not that great of CSI show, let alone a regular show. I mean, come on, it receives tons of ridicule online. That’s not a good sign.

Any David Caruso fan wanting to bid farewell to Lt. Horatio Caine will have to rely on sweet memories only: The canceled show already aired its last episode for this season on April 8 and will not resume production just to shoot a special series finale.
On Sunday — almost three months after CSI: Miami wrapped production in Los Angeles– CBS announced that the procedural will not return in the fall. CSI: New York, however, survived to see another day.
Both of the CSI spinoffs were tipped off early in the spring that one or both could face the chopping block come upfronts time.

After 10 seasons, it's time for David Caruso to turn in his sunglasses. CBS has cancelled CSI: Miami, the first show in the CSI franchise to end.
Starting in 2002, the TV series follows a South Florida team of forensic investigators who often use advanced scientific methods to solve crimes. The current cast includes Caruso, Adam Rodriguez, Emily Procter, Eva La Rue, Jonathan Togo, Omar Benson Miller, and Rex Linn.
The ratings for CSI: Miami have declined over the years. Season nine averaged a 2.1 in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 9.85 million total viewers. That was down from season eight by 13% in the demo (vs a 2.4 rating) and down by 5% in viewership (vs 10.39 million).

The cool, drizzly weather is most un-Miami-like in Manhattan Beach, Calif., on the set of CBS' Sunday crime drama "CSI: Miami."
Just before boxes of hot pizza arrive to drive away the chill, stars Emily Procter and Adam Rodriguez take a break from filming to contemplate the on-again-but-mostly-off-again romance between their respective characters, CSIs Calleigh Duquesne and Eric Delko.
Procter, back in fighting trim after having her first child last season, relates the long will-they-or-won't-they wait to a similar situation between two of the characters -- Lady Mary and Matthew -- on her beloved British period drama "Downton Abbey," which airs on PBS' "Masterpiece."
"It really bothered me," she says, "until I saw 'Downton Abbey,' and I realized, as a viewer, I loved the carrot on the stick of Mary and Matthew. You're watching people who are right for each other and have been through enough, that you...

Tonight on CSI: Miami (CBS, 10/9c), sure, Horatio digs up a bit of political scandal and Malcolm McDowell puts in an encore as ruthless legal eagle Darren Vogel. But the beating heart of the episode belongs to Calleigh Duquesne, who pulls the trigger on what promises to be a life-changing decision — and one that prompts Delko to go out on a limb himself.
The catalyst for this storyline was planted earlier in the season, when Calleigh helped a pre-teen boy and his sister with the transition to foster care after she put their father in prison. When Calleigh, while working a case with Delko,...

When Emily Procter is not busy analyzing evidence and peering at corpses on CBS' Sunday-night hit "CSI: Miami," she's watching PBS' Sunday-night "Masterpiece" hit, "Downton Abbey," which concludes it second season on Sunday, Feb. 19.
"It's 'Upstairs, Downstairs' meets 'Dynasty,'" Procter tells Zap2it during a break in filming on the "CSI: Miami' sets in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
The British series, produced by ITV, focuses on a fictional estate in North Yorkshire in the years just before, during and after World War I, including the aristocratic Crawley family that owns it and the servants that keep it running, who range from the upstanding -- butler Carson (Jim Carter), valet Mr. Bates (Brendan Coyle) and housemaid Anna (Joanne Froggatt) -- to the morally questionable -- lady's maid O'Brien (Siobhan Finneran) and footman Thomas (Rob James-Collier).

Question: Any idea what the status is of Jonathan Groff’s previously announced return to Glee as the new coach of Vocal Adrenaline? Is it still happening? —Ian
Ausiello: Sounds like it. As you know, Groff just inked a deal to join the Season 2 cast of Boss as a series regular. But a McKinley High insider tells me that Lea Michele’s real-life Bff is still set to appear in two episodes of Glee later this season.

"Parks and Recreation" will welcome a second cast member of "The West Wing" to Pawnee City Hall later this season -- but alas, we won't see a reunion on screen.
Bradley Whitford will guest in an episode set for late March as the retiring Pawnee city councilman whose seat Leslie (Amy Poehler) is trying to win, HuffPost TV reports. Whitford will not, however, share any scenes with his former co-star Rob Lowe.
The episode is called "Live Ammo," and co-creator Mike Schur says it's a reference to a "West Wing" episode in which White House newcomer Ainsley Hayes (Emily Procter) is surprised at the speed at which things move. Lowe's Sam Seaborn replies to her, "Well, we play with live ammo around here."

Their stated goal is to uphold the law of the land and put the bad guys behind bars, but every TV fan knows that our favorite small-screen cops, detectives, and agents — as well as their colleagues who semi-officially serve in crime-fighting capacities — have a duty to increase pulses and raise the temperatures of whatever rooms they enter.
We recently wrapped up a 64-player bracket tournament for male law-enforcement types — won by NCIS‘ Tony Dinozzo — and since we’re equal opportunity oglers/romantics, we figured we’d better construct a similar showdown for their female counterparts.
