The series was originally set to air on AMC in the U.S. and will now move to Starz. It is a co-production with British pay-tv broadcaster Sky. Watch the new teaser trailer above.
AMC Networks was planning to air it in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It’s not clear why AMC dropped the drama series, but it comes as AMC has been cost-cutting and axing shows such as including Demascus, Invitation to a Bonfire and second seasons of Pantheon, Moonhaven and 61st Street.
Enter Starz, which will now air the seven-part series in the U.S. and Canada along its swath of period dramas.

It's premiering this weekend at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival, hence the trailer arriving now, and it'll also show at the London Film Festival next month. One Life stars Anthony Hopkins, based on the incredible true story of Sir Nicholas Winton. Many may recall hearing this story or seeing the real video - a man who rescued hundreds of children from the Nazis during WWII is reunited with many of these survivors, now grown into adults, in a surprise appearance on a TV show in 1998. The film tells his story at both times - showing what he did during WWII and how he helped make a huge difference, and decades later when he is an old man,...

Sky and AMC have released a series of first-look images for the upcoming limited event series, ‘Mary & George’, starring Academy Award and BAFTA-winning actor Julianne Moore, alongside Nicholas Galitzine and Tony Curran.
The series is inspired by the unbelievable true story of Mary Villiers, who moulded her beautiful and charismatic son, George, to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England and become his all-powerful lover. Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors. And with England’s place on the world stage under threat from a Spanish invasion and rioters taking to the streets to denounce the King, the stakes could not have been higher.

Living is a drama film starring Bill Nighy and directed by Oliver Hermanus.
An excellent remake with a brilliant performance by Bill Nighy. A great movie. However, it might not be the kind of film you feel like watching. Nonetheless, if you give it a chance, you’ll be glad you did.
Storyline
William is an elderly man who receives a devastating medical diagnosis: he has six months to live.
About the Film
Brilliant in every way, from the cinematography to the superb direction by Oliver Hermanus, who manages to transfer Kurosawa’s original film to an English setting – a challenge for any director.
It draws on and adopts from the original and is totally faithful to it, in addition to providing – and, above all, counting on – an exceptional actor in what is probably the role of his life. Billy Nighty is magnificent in a film that, once seen, could not exist without him.

Bill Nighy faces the ultimate question: What is the point of life?
Nighy stars as a widower questioning his mortality after being diagnosed with stomach cancer in “Living,” the reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s “Ikiru.” Novelist Kazuo Ishiguro adapted Kurosawa’s original script for the feature, helmed by Oliver Hermanus.
The official synopsis reads: Set in 1950s London, “Living” is the story of an ordinary man, reduced by years of oppressive office routine to a shadow existence, who at the eleventh hour makes a supreme effort to turn his dull life into something wonderful.
Aimee Lou Wood, Alex Sharp, Adrian Rawlins, and Tom Burke also star.
Nighy exclusively told IndieWire at the film’s Sundance premiere that the role presented a coveted mixture of layered emotions. “It’s not often you get a long role playing someone who’s just simply straightforward and decent,” Nighy said. “In this case, I...

"Small wonder I didn't notice what I was becoming." Sony Pictures Classics has revealed the final official US trailer for Living, the English-language remake of the beloved Akira Kurosawa film Ikiru from 1952. It's still one of the best films of the year (read my review). We already posted the US teaser trailer and a full UK trailer a few months ago. The US release is in December just before the end of the year. Set in London in the 1950s, Bill Nighy stars in the lead role as Williams, a grumpy, curmudgeonly government office worker who has an awakening when he's diagnosed with terminal cancer. He realizes he hasn't really be "living" and goes about trying to change that. Also starring Alex Sharp, Adrian Rawlins, Hubert Burton, Oliver Chris, Michael Cochrane, and Aimee Lou Wood in a breakout role as Margaret Harris. This beautiful trailer really captures the magic of this film,...

This post contains spoilers for episode 9 of "Andor."
With the latest episode of "Andor," "Stars Wars" has never been so bleak. The previous episode, "Narkina 5," offered us a terrifying glimpse into the Empire's industrial prison complex and how it affects those abused by the system. As if things were not already hellish enough for Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), who is currently stuck in the prison complex, episode 9 significantly raises the stakes when it comes to the fate of the prison inmates on Narkina 5.
There is a fresh rumor circulating in the prison complex: something terrible happened in Level 2. The inherent nature of the prison's power dynamics, which alienates inmates from one another and thrives on mini theaters of punishment, prevents this news from having the impact it should have. As a result, there is a consistent lack of clear communication between the different groups, which makes it difficult for Cassian...

"It does seem to me that he's changed…" "Yes." Lionsgate UK has revealed their own official UK trailer for the acclaimed film Living, the English-language remake of the beloved Akira Kurosawa film Ikiru made in 1952. We already posted the US teaser trailer a few weeks ago and with the Venice Film Festival premiere this week, marketing is finally kicking in. The US opening is set for December. “Ikiru” is something of an anomaly within Akira Kurosawa’s filmography, trading samurai and Shakespearean power struggles for a more intimate style of human drama. But the story of an ailing bureaucrat confronting his mortality by spending his last few months on Earth building a children’s playground is nevertheless one of the director’s most impactful films. So much so that many cinephiles were bound to see any remake as trespassing on sacred grounds. Still, Kurosawa’s work has inspired many of the most popular films of the past half-century, so “Ikiru” was bound to be remade eventually.
That’s precisely what “Living” attempts to do, reimagining Kurosawa’s beloved story in 1950s London. Bill Nighy takes on the role first played by Takashi Shimura, portraying a man whose stomach cancer causes him to question his long-held cynicism. And while Shimura’s performance in “Ikiru” left him with an...

This premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and earned rave reviews as one of the best films of the fest, and a rare remake that actually lives up to the original in every way (which is an especially impressive feat considering the original is one of Akira Kurosawa's best films). Veteran British actor Timothy Spall (Mr Turner) is to lead The Sixth Commandment, Sarah Phelps’ BBC factual drama about the deaths of Peter Farquhar and Ann Moore-Martin in the village of Maids Moreton, Buckinghamshire, and the extraordinary events that unfolded over the following years.
Filming has begun on the four-parter and Spall, who plays lead Farquhar, is joined by Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax), Éanna Hardwicke (Normal People), Annabel Scholey (The Split), Sheila Hancock (Unforgotten), Ben Bailey Smith (The Split), Conor MacNeill (Industry), Adrian Rawlins (Baptiste) and Amanda Root (Summerland).
The show from Banijay-backed Wild Mercury Productions and True Vision Productions tells the story of how the meeting of an inspirational teacher and charismatic student Ben Field (Hardwicke) set the stage for one of the most complex and confounding criminal cases in recent memory. In the opening scene of Chino Moya’s grimmer-than-Grimm dystopian fairy tale collection, “Undergods,” a pair of grungy near-future garbagemen scour the ruins of a ghostly former metropolis looking for bodies. Like the Black Plague cleanup crew in “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” — the occasionally too-efficient “bring out your dead!” guys — it doesn’t matter whether the corpses they come across are even fully deceased: The collectors toss the bodies into the back of their cart either way. Should the poor souls turn out to still be alive, they can always sell them for precious cans of scarce food back at the depot.
Moya’s vision may be bleak — and “vision” is the right word to describe the Spanish-born director’s stunning capacity to create images and atmosphere — but there’s something unnervingly familiar about the world he creates in his feature debut. Between that twisted introductory vignette and...

I’ve mentioned it many times before but I really enjoy a good anthology movie. I’m not sure exactly why but from the classic eighties horror anthologies to the more modern takes on genres, they always grab my attention. Undergods manages to have a style and tone like no other anthology I have seen before.
The ‘wrap-around’ works much better than many other anthology movies, as we see two street scavengers, K & Z, who are loading dead bodies into their truck while chatting about their dreams. "It hasn't finished yet..." Lightbulb Film Dist. has released a full UK trailer for the dystopian fantasy-thriller Undergods, which originally premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival last year (view a promo trailer from then). The film played at the Glasgow Film Festival in February and went on to receive two BIFA (British Independent Film Award) noms. In a futuristic, post-apocalyptic world, K and Z roam the streets on the lookout for corpses and something even more valuable - fresh meat. What follows is a series of narratives, overlapping and weaving through time & space with remarkable grace & ease. The threads come together elegantly as stories layer upon each other & crescendo towards a powerful, satisfying conclusion. The key cast includes Kate Dickie, Ned Dennehy, Geza Rohrig, Adrian Rawlins, and an especially crazed Jan Bijvoet. “It’s a classic ghost story with one of the best filmed jumps ever,” sums up Andy Nyman of Herbert Wise’s 1989 TV movie of The Woman in Black, “It properly delivers, and it properly delivers in a fantastically old fashioned way. It’s a proper ghost story at Christmas.” He’s not wrong. Now restored and released on Blu-ray with a load of new extras, the movie is still incredibly effective. Nyman has recorded a new commentary for the film along with fellow horror experts Kim Newman and Mark Gatiss. Nyman has a personal connection to the film too – it was his very first TV role, playing legal clerk Jackie, opposite Stephen Mackintosh as his sidekick. 30 years on and coming back to do the commentary was a joy, he explains.

In a desolate and decrepit cityscape, presumably in the time after some unspecified apocalypse, K (Johann Myers) and Z (Géza Röhrig) drive a garbage truck, picking up the dead bodies that lie strewn along their route. This is just the framing device for writer/director Chino Moya’s first feature, which drifts and digresses into other stories, all centring on a man whose familial equilibrium is disrupted by the sudden arrival of an outsider. A neighbour (Ned Dennehy) shows up at Ron (Michael Gould) and Ruth’s (Hayley Carmichael) door; a foreign inventor (Jan Bijvoet) proposes a project to Hans (Eric Godon) and Dom’s (Adrian Rawlins) life is turned upside down when his wife Rachel’s (Kate Dickie) first husband (Sam Louwyck) mysteriously reappears after fifteen years.
In the stories involving married couples, Moya seems to be building an allegory about the lack of communication, drawing parallels between the...

We all like to think we have control—kings of our proverbial castles. It’s all a ruse, though. We’re actually slaves to a system that seems more and more likely to fail with each new day and each new declaration that its imminent demise is a call to arms to save it rather than move on and evolve. That false sense of control is thus a mechanism we use to combat the fear of knowing how little we truly possess. We dream of other men failing so as not to realize that unfortunate soul is probably a future version of ourselves. We play God opposite those we believe are beneath us because we feel the pressure of those above doing the same. And there’s absolutely no way out.
Filmmaker Chino Moya is optimistic, though. Rather than present his debut feature Undergods as an unavoidably prescient vision of where we’re headed,...

The trailer for Chino Moya's Undergods is brilliant. It doesn't give anything away but builds enough intrigue and mystery to capture attention.
Billed as "An otherworldly journey through a Europe in decline," the film is a collection of darkly humorous tales connected by a visit from a stranger. It's a weird and creepy trailer which reveals little of the convoluted story, aside from the suggestion that this may be bookended as a story being told to a child, Princess Bride...
