There is a second reality series project devoted to chronicling a mission to the Red Planet. Leslie Greif’s Thinkfactory Media (Hatfields & McCoys, Gene Simmons: Family Jewels) has partnered with The Mars Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the exploration and settlement of the Red Planet, on an unscripted TV project that would document Mars Society’s year-long Mars simulation in the Canadian Arctic. Thinkfactory had been working with the Mars Society on the project for the past four months. It took the series out to networks last week, with two outlets interested and currently in discussion with the production company. Tentatively titled Mission To Mars, the series is one of two Mars colonization reality projects in the marketplace, along with Lionsgate TV’s untitled series done in collaboration with Lansdorp’s Mars One, the international Mars mission backed by Dutch billionaire entrepreneur Bas Lansdorp. The unscripted series will focus on the inaugural season of the La Kiss Arena Football League team and owners Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, bass guitarist/lead vocalist/co-founder of heavy metal band Kiss, and longtime manager Doc McGhee. The 10-episode series will follow the dedicated players and coaches as they try to turn La’s first professional football team in years into a winning franchise. Produced by Thinkfactory Media (Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Hatfields & McCoys), the series will premiere on AMC this summer. Following its June sale to Britain’s ITV, Thinkfactory Media has reshuffled its exec ranks. Founder and CEO Leslie Greif has promoted 12-year company veteran Joanne Rubino to Svp of production, continuing to oversee all Thinkfactory production and additionally handling biz dev duties and all corporate finance oversight. Adam Freeman, who started with Thinkfactory in 2006 as showrunner on Gene Simmons Family Jewels and worked on productions including Sinbad: It’s Just Family, Dogg After Dark, Marriage Bootcamp: Bridezillas, Kissteria, Hatfields & McCoys: White Lightning and The Great Santini Brothers, is now creative director overseeing unscripted development and productions. He’ll also consult on scripted programming for Thinkfactory. Aaron Fishman currently oversees the R&B Divas franchise and has been named executive producer. The team will report to new Evp Adam Reed, who was promoted to the post in September.

Axs TV has licensed all seven seasons of Gene Simmons Family Jewels and will debut the 168-episode franchise on Thursday, October 3 at 8 Pm Et with back-to-back episodes. Axs will then run a marathon of the docu-soap’s 13-episode first season on Saturday, October 5 starting at 3:30 Pm Et, after which the reality series will run regularly on the network’s Thursday nights at 8 Pm Et. The series that premiered on A&E in August of 2006, is known for following the life of the Kiss bassist and vocalist, and for becoming a topic of conversation among reality-tv purists who objected to the series’ use of some staged events. In its first two seasons on A&E, Gsfj was that network’s second highest rated series, behind only Dog the Bounty Hunter. A&E ran seven seasons of the series.

As we’ve been reporting, Syfy had its Upfront presentation to potential advertisers Wednesday night, and they spent yesterday issuing press releases. It’s a good thing they held the event at a pier, as there is a boatload of information included in the summary press release below. We made sure to get it posted before the weekend, since it will take you the entire weekend to absorb it all.

AMC has given a pilot order to Geek Out (working title), an unscripted project featuring superfans of films, comic books, authors, actors, athletes, musicians, video games, and TV series. Some Preachers’ Daughters are coming to Lifetime. The network announced today it has ordered eight one-hour episodes of the docu-soap about the teenage daughters of worried and watchful pastors. “By opening their homes and lives to our viewers, the families featured on Preachers’ Daughters will provide an honest portrayal of their experiences — bookended by the deep love they share and shifting household dynamics in their beliefs,” said Rob Sharenow, Lifetime’s Evp Programming, in a release.
