Directed by Mary Lambert from a screenplay by Stephen King himself, the 1989 film Pet Sematary is widely considered to be one of the best King adaptations ever made. The 1992 sequel, which was directed by Lambert from a screenplay by Richard Outten, is much less popular… and that’s why we’re looking at Pet Sematary II (watch it Here) in today’s episode of the video series The Black Sheep! To find out why we think Pet Sematary II deserves more love, check out the video embedded above.
Pet Sematary II has the following synopsis:
When his mother Renee dies, young Jeff Matthews moves back to his hometown with his father, Chase. Jeff grows friendly with Drew Gilbert at school, who tells him about the Indian burial grounds that bring people and animals back to life, which led to the deaths of the Creed family who used to live in town.

Director Mary Lambert cut her teeth on a lot of big-name music videos throughout the ’80s, including Madonna, The Eurythmics, Chris Isaak, and Janet Jackson. But her big splash in the horror world came in 1990 when she adapted perhaps one of Stephen King’s darkest novels, Pet Sematary. Lambert leveraged melodrama in the original film to explore the dark places we go in the midst of grief. But for the 1992 sequel, Lambert swaps out an operatic tone for something grungier, meaner, funnier, and, dare I say it, better?
When the original Pet Sematary pulled in $57.1 million off an $11.5 million budget, Paramount promptly chomped at the bit to produce a sequel. Although King had written the screenplay for the first film, he passed on coming up with something for a sequel as he got the sense that a follow-up would just tell the same story all over again. Lambert had an...

One of Tom Hanks’ best movies hits Disney Plus next month.
The Mouse House inherited countless classics from 20th Century Fox to fill their streaming service with, but in many cases, it’s taken some time to clear the rights to get them up on D+. And that’s the way it’s been with 1988’s Big. But the comedy film is now set to finally land on the site next month, as Disney Plus has announced that it’ll be adding the movie to its library in the US on December 4th.
Hanks had already been in hits like Splash and The Money Pit, but Big was a huge turning point for his career at the time, as it was the first occasion that he was noticed by the Academy. His role as Josh Baskin, a 13-year-old who wishes he was big and wakes up looking like he’s...

If you can remember sitting in a movie theater watching Tom Hanks as a grown-up child, we’ve got some news for you: You’re Big! That’s a nice way of saying you’re all grown up now, too — because it’s been 30 years since the release of director Penny Marshall’s fantasy-comedy classic Big, and to mark the occasion the movie is returning to theaters this July.
Thirty years ago this summer, 12-year-old Josh Baskin uttered a secret wish to a carnival fortune-teller machine and made movie history as he grew up overnight, turning director Penny Marshall’s Big into a box-office smash and one of the defining films of the 1980s.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Big, Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Twentieth Century Fox are bringing its magic back to movie theaters throughout the U.S. as part of the yearlong TCM Big Screen Classics series.

We dig up the underrated sequel to Stephen King's horror classic and pay our respects to Pet Sematary 2.
What is it about horror movie sequels? They either hit the mark or miss them completely, and it’s never in between. But there are no absolutes. It's all subjective. Take Candyman II: Farewell to the Flesh for example. Some find it superior to the original film, citing that it's more engaging, atmospheric, and bone-chilling. Since I can hardly ever get past the first 20 minutes of it, I can't say that I agree with them. On the other side of the coin, we have Urban Legend: Final Cut. I can't really defend this one, but I can say this: I would watch the hell out of it before I would ever revisit the first again. Why? Personal reasons, I guess. (That it used a film school as its...

Big remains one of our favourite Tom Hanks childhood movies (perhaps losing out to Turner and Hooch, boy did that make us blub, we barely held it together) so we're slightly unnerved by reports that a TV series based on the film has been commissioned.
Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce are now said to have received a script plus penalty commitment from broadcaster Fox for the half-hour comedy series, which will explore what it means to be both an adult and child in today's world.
The 1988 Oscar-nominated movie, written by Gary Ross and Anne Spielberg, sees a boy's simple wish to be big come true as a 13-year-old is transformed into a 30-year-old overnight.
We take a nostalgic look at the cast of the huge hit - including Tom Hanks and John Heard - and what came next below:

They're not "kids" anymore.25 years ago today, "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" became an unexpected hit for Disney, as families flooded the theaters to see what happened after a group of neighborhood kids were blasted by a shrinking ray and left to fend for themselves in their suddenly-dangerous backyard.Starring Rick Moranis and young actors like Thomas Brown, Amy O'Neill, Jared Rushton and Robert Oliveri, the flick was a massive success when it was first released, spawning two sequels, a TV series and an attraction at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios. To help celebrate the milestone anniversary, toofab's Brian Particelli sat down with Thomas Brown, who played the slightly short, but totally dreamy, "boy next door" Russ Thompson Jr.Now 41, the actor really opened up about working on the film in his teens -- describing the crazy conditions shooting in Mexico City, his favorite moment to film on the giant...

Heart and soul.
It’s what Josh Baskin and MacMillan play during the memorable dance scene in 1988’s Big but it’s also what the film is infused with, making it stand up to the test of time. Yeah, its look is dated thanks to bad hair and big shoulder pads, but the story of a 13 year old’s wish to become an adult endures.
20th Century Home Entertainment has released Big 25th Anniversary Edition this week, in time for last minute stocking stuffers. It belongs under every tree because it’s just so well crafted, explaining how Tom Hanks earned an Oscar nomination for his performance. His work stems from the Academy Award nominated script by Gary Ross and Annie Spielberg.
Frustrated at being small for his age and unable to achieve his modest goals, Josh (David Moscow) makes a wish at the local carnival. The unplugged Zoltar fortune...

Director: Garry Marshall

Story:
A super hot/super bitchy heiress dumps workin’ man Dean Proffitt off her boat after he does a job that doesn’t meet her satisfaction. Later that night, she falls off the boat herself and suffers from amnesia. Her husband basically says “Fuck it! Party time!” and leaves her at the hospital. So, Dean develops a plan of revenge by convincing her that she’s his wife.
Review:
I wanna start off here by saying I am greatly appreciative to be given the privilege of bringing the sappiness to The Liberal Dead‘s Kurt Russell Appreciation Week. I jumped on this boat pretty late in the game, and Shawn Savage forewarned me as soon as he handed out the invitation that most of Russell’s iconic roles had already been taken.

This month, Director Penny Marshall’s "Big" was released on Blu-Ray. This 1988 film stars a young Tom Hanks. "Big" is about 13 year-old Josh Baskin who, after being embarrassed at a carnival ride, makes a wish on a Zoltar magician game: “I wish I was big.” Overnight, Josh awakes to find his body has aged at least 15 years. "Big" also stars Elizabeth Perkins as Josh’s love interest Susan, Robert Loggia as Josh’s boss MacMillan, Jared Rushton as Josh’s best friend Billy, and David Moscow as young Josh. Tom Hanks plays a 13 year-old stuck in a 30 year-old body. Hanks is amazing in this early role. No one else could play a 13 year-old and keep him that age throughout the film. From his job, to first love, to his relationship with his best friend, Hanks’ performance is flawless. This is a great film to own, as ...
