Anthony and Joe Russo seem to think that the chapter on Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is closed after his heroic sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame. When they learned that Downey Jr. hinted at his potential return to the MCU role, they were confused by the idea. The Gray Man directors revealed that they have no clue about how the cinematic universe would bring back the character.
Avengers: Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo were not impressed with the idea of Robert Downey Jr. returning as Iron Man
Fans were particularly disheartened by two of their favorite Marvel directors playing dumb to the concept of multiverse. The Russo brothers also directed the Sherlock Holmes star in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

After creating the heartbreaking yet truly magnificent exit of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe via Avengers: Endgame, the Russo Brothers — Joe Russo and Anthony Russo — are all set to bring new action to the screens. And this time, this peak entertainment would not be through Rdj or the MCU, but rather, ostensibly through Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling.

As it turns out, the dynamic duo recently hinted at wanting to work with Evans and Gosling once again. The project they would be collaborating on is the sequel to the masterpiece from 2022, The Gray Man. But that’s not all because Evans isn’t the only Chris the mastermind filmmakers are looking forward to working with: They also want Chris Hemsworth to reprise his iconic role!

Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr. has expressed interest in reprising his role as Iron Man.
However, there is one problem, the character died at the end of ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
Speaking with GamesRadar at the Sands: International Film Festival, the film’s directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, seemed baffled at the notion of a Downey return.
“I don’t know how they would do it. I don’t know what the road to that would be,” Anthony Russo told GamesRadar, reports deadline.com.
“I mean, we closed that book, so it would be up to them to figure out how to reopen it,” Joe Russo added.
Marvel head Kevin Feige refuted the claim that it was mulling over bringing Iron Man back.
He had earlier said Marvel Studios could not “magically undo” Tony Stark’s death in ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

Robert Downey Jr. elated Marvel fans earlier this month when he told Esquire magazine that he would “happily” return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Tony Stark/Iron Man following his Oscar win for best supporting actor in March. There’s only one hiccup: Iron Man died in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.” But the MCU’s ever-expanding multiverse certainly leaves the door open for Downey’s return
In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, “Avengers: Endgame” directors Joe and Anthony Russo expressed some confusion over Downey’s Iron Man popping back up in the MCU after they killed the character off so heroically in their record-breaking film.
“I don’t know how they would do it,” Anthony said. “I don’t know what the road to that would be [laughs].”
Joe added, “I mean we closed that book so it would be up to them to figure out how to reopen it.”

Exclusive: The ancient Scottish town of St Andrews was hit with a heavy bout of Spidey fever this past weekend as the third annual Sands International Film Festival opened, pulling in an eclectic set of films, filmmakers, and speakers alongside one popular guest of honor.
Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, also known for The Impossible, Cherry, and The Devil All the Time passed through the fest, which opened with a screening of Last Call, a short project he leads with Lindsay Duncan (Blackbird) that was co-written and directed by his brother, Harry Holland. The Holland brothers also took part in the first annual Sands golf tournament, which will continue as part of the festival’s wider activities. It was on the pristine golfing greens where Tom linked up with Deadline to discuss his career so far and plans for future projects, including whether he will return for a fourth Spider-Man movie.

A small piece of contemporary cinema history was written last night in St Andrews, Scotland when Steven Soderbergh sat down with Joe and Anthony Russo on stage at the Sands International Film Festival to discuss their 2002 collaboration Welcome to Collinwood.
Produced by Soderbergh and George Clooney who also stars alongside William H. Macy, Isaiah Washington, Sam Rockwell, Luis Guzmán, and Patricia Clarkson, Welcome to Collinwood was the second feature from the Russos following their debut feature Pieces, which bombed out of Slamdance in 1997.
“There was zero interest in the film from anybody but this man over here,” Anthony said of Pieces, pointing towards Soderbergh. The sex, lies and videotape filmmaker had been present at the doomed Pieces screening at Slamdance and reached out to the directing duo to impart some wisdom.
“It was insanely ambitious and dense,” Soderbergh told Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr, who moderated the talk, of Pieces.

Ania Trzebiatowska has compiled an eclectic selection of fiction and non-fiction titles for the third annual Sands International Film Festival, which kicked off Friday evening in St Andrews, Scotland.
Mounted across this weekend in the ancient university town, Trzebiatowska — also a full-time programmer at Sundance — runs the festival with an impressive gang of part-time student programmers from the University of St. Andrews, a partner on the festival alongside Joe and Anthony Russo’s Agbo. The Avengers: Endgame filmmakers are connected to the town through Joe’s eldest daughter, who studied at St Andrews. The two Russos were in the building this evening.

There are very few things in life that bring a person the utmost joy while delivering a sense of purpose at the same time. The Marvel Cinematic Universe tapped into that sense of purpose and Avengers: Endgame was its culmination. With billions of fans screaming, hollering, hooting, and wailing, the 22nd film in the MCU was a phenomenon worth its weight in tears, an event worth living through, and a tale worth retelling for generations to come.

The scars given by Avengers: Endgame will not heal for a long time to come. Not only did we lose Black Widow and Iron Man to the ultimate sacrifice, but things went downhill for the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon after. Regardless, the film is one of the finest to exist in the superhero universe and its ending is going to stay with the fans forever.
Black Widow’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame
However, there was a slight chance that Avengers: Endgame would have been even more devastating than it was. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had initially pitched to kill off all the original Avengers and not just Black Widow and Iron Man. Luckily, the Russo Brothers were right there to intervene and were able to put a stop to this just in time.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ was an extremely important movie in the MCU, primarily due to its introduction of the Sokovia Accords, which divided the Avengers and led to a conflict between Captain America and Iron Man, for the first time in the MCU pitting superheroes against each other, with no real winner in the conflict.
It also introduced new characters like Black Panther and Spider-Man, impacting the future of the MCU. The film’s character conflict and action-packed storyline had lasting effects on team dynamics and relationships within the Avengers, making it one of the most memorable entries in the franchise.
But did you know that MCU masterpiece was actually inspired by a Dceu flop? Joe and Anthony Russo explained how one of Snyder’s badly received movies – ‘Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ inspired them to switch lanes and gave them the idea to pit the superheroes in an epic ideological fight.

The ‘unremarkable sequel’ was something the Marvel Cinematic Universe found difficult to shake off in its initial phases. Thinking back to films like Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World could bring back memories of botched character arcs and poor commercial and critical scores. However, all that changed when Anthony and Joe Russo presented their Captain America sequel to the world, leaving the MCU worse than they found it if recent criticisms are to be believed.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a lot of things, but gory is not one of them. Despite being an incredible tale of zealous and righteous superheroes saving the day from some or the other deadly enemy, the franchise has largely managed to remain far from what most would associate as ‘gory’ and ‘ghastly’.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe
While there have been movies and series with extreme and incessant violence, these have largely remained confined to the general display of gruesomeness. Even Avengers: Endgame, which featured one of the biggest showdowns in the entire MCU, remained largely gruesome-less. However, all this would have changed had one scene too dark for the family-friendly MCU had made it to the movie.

The Community feature film is finally moving forward, and cast member Donald Glover says the script is complete.
For quite a few years now, there hav been talks of a film adaptation of cult American sitcom Community, which ran for 110 episodes over six seasons between 2009 and 2015. It pays off a meta joke originated by film buff Abed in an early season when he is obsessed with a superhero show. When Jeff criticises it and says it’ll be cancelled after a few weeks, Abed boldly exclaims “six seasons and a movie!”
That, as Community fans well know, then became something of a mantra going forward.
The show focused on an eclectic group of students at a community college in Colorado. It quickly became a fan favourite, with praise going to the chemistry of the cast and the sharp writing and directing. It was on Community that future Marvel directors Joe...

The death of Iron Man at the end of Joe and Anthony Russo's ultra-blockbuster "Avengers: Endgame" is tragic, but not because he sacrificed his life. It's tragic because Tony Stark, with his dying breath, transformed from an ostensible hero into a mass murderer.
"Avengers: Endgame" climaxed with a lengthy battle sequence wherein every known, living character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe assembled to fight the genocidal villain Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his minions. During that battle, heroes and villains fought each other for control of the Infinity Stones, a collection of six magical gems that give their owner the power to do literally anything. In the previous film, "Avengers: Infinity War," Thanos gathered the stones together and used them, with a snap of his fingers, to erase half the population of the universe. Thanos was concerned with dwindling natural resources, overpopulation, and the resulting diminishing quality of life everywhere.

Even though Mark Ruffalo's Hulk hasn't had a solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he's had quite the on-screen journey dating back to 2012's "The Avengers." The most crucial part of that journey to date took place in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame" when Bruce Banner and Hulk merged, creating Smart Hulk. The beast had finally been tamed, with Banner and Hulk finally being able to co-exist. It turns out, Smart Hulk was originally supposed to make his grand entrance in "Avengers: Infinity War" a year earlier.
In the commentary track for "Endgame," directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, along with writers Stephen McFeeley and Christopher Markus, revealed that Smart Hulk was originally supposed to appear during the third act of "Infinity War" during the battle in Wakanda. As it exists, Bruce fights in The Hulkbuster armor because Hulk won't come out following his confrontation with Thanos earlier in the film.

Despite Marvel’s recent lackluster run at the box office, the studio’s head, Kevin Feige, says he has no plans to bring Robert Downey Jr. back to the franchise.
In an interview Vanity Fair, Feige said, “We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again,” referencing Downey Jr.’s final performance as Iron Man in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. “We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”
Recent rumors suggested that, in light of a string of box office duds, Marvel was considering bringing back Downey Jr. in order to reinvigorate the franchise. Beyond Feige’s stance, Downey Jr. also appears to have no interest in reprising Iron Man.
Citing End Game directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Vanity Fair reports that Downey Jr. was reluctant to even participate in reshoots for the 2019 film.

The Russo Bros’ The Gray Man was supposed to be a game-changer for Netflix. Fresh off directing two of the biggest films ever made (Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame), the Russo’s were confident they could bring the same kind of “can’t miss” event to a streamer. Indeed, The Gray Man sported a budget on par with the biggest Marvel movies and an all-star cast that included Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. The movie was indeed a hit for Netflix, with it currently sitting at number 5 on their all-time most popular movies list, but reaction to the film was more mixed than anticipated, and right now The Gray Man 2 seems like a questionable idea.

Exclusive: Steven Soderbergh has dedicated more than four decades to shaping his legacy in Hollywood as a director, cinematographer and producer. But instead of splurging on yachts or a home in the South of France, he is investing in the future of independent filmmaking by mentoring directors like Joe and Anthony Russo, Christopher Nolan and most recently Eddie Alcazar. He and Alcazar’s second collaboration (after 2018’s Perfect) is Divinity, which hits theaters nationwide Friday after debuting at the Sundance Film Festival.
The film, set in an otherworldly human existence on a barren planet, follows Sterling Pierce (Scott Bakula), a scientist who has dedicated his life to the quest for immortality, slowly creating the building blocks of a groundbreaking serum known as “Divinity.” Jaxxon Pierce (Stephen Dorff), his son, now controls and manufactures his father’s once-benevolent dream. Society has been entirely perverted by the supremacy of the drug, whose...

Five years removed from "Avengers: Infinity War," it's easy to forget just how traumatizing Thanos' snap was for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The most tragic aspect of wiping out half of the galaxy's population with the Infinity Gauntlet was the incomprehensible randomness of that cataclysmic event. One second your loved ones are there in the flesh, only to be a pile of dust and ash in the next. No one scene encapsulated that more than the beginning of "Avengers: Endgame," when Clint Barton/Hawkeye's (Jeremy Renner) entire family vanishes in an instant on an otherwise idyllic summer day.
In the sprawling three-hour commentary for "Endgame," directors Joe and Anthony Russo are joined by screenwriter Stephen McFeely to discuss a slew of topics, including Hawkeye's transition into a ruthless mercenary taking out nameless villains on the neon-tinged streets of Tokyo, Japan. The re-introduction of Hawkeye is, of course, inspired by...
