Lee “Scratch” Perry’s final album, King Perry, will be released posthumously on February 2nd, 2024 via False Idols. As a preview, the lead single “100lbs of Summer” featuring Greentea Peng arrived today, along with a remix of the track by Tricky.
King Perry was written, produced, and recorded by an 85-year-old Perry in the months before his death in 2021, and was the final product of the reggae icon’s decade-long collaboration with UK-based producer, Daniel Boyle. Aiming to expand the framework of dub to incorporate new sounds and experimentations, the two musicians began the project by sending files back and forth from opposite sides of the Atlantic. Over time, it blossomed into a full-length celebration of Perry’s style, featuring collaborations from Greentea Peng, Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder, Fifi Rong, and more.

Shaun Ryder and Mark “Bez” Berry of Happy Mondays have joined forces with ex-Oasis members Zak Starkey and Andy Bell for Mantra of the Cosmos, the latest supergroup to come from the UK. They’ve announced the news along with their debut single “Gorilla Guerilla.”
A press release describes Mantra of the Cosmos as “the hum of the universe and the pulsating musical pathway to the beyond,” who began making music in a remote studio in outer space. Bell, also known for his work with shoegazers Ride, shared: “It’s a pleasure to be part of Mantra of the Cosmos. Four like-minded souls who get off on the same music.” Starkey describes their sound as having “fantastic psychedelic groove, from a band of misfit outsiders and innovators.” Ryder concedes that “It’s a fucking blast mate,” with Bez concluding: “I always knew the best was yet to come.”

Starring former I’m a Celebrity campmates, this special series is set in South Africa and will see the returning contestants reunite for a new set of extra-gruelling challenges.
Ant and Dec will reprise their roles as hosts.
Among the returning contestants are both winners, finalists and early exiters, all of whom made an impact when they first appeared in the jungle.
Let’s look back at their previous times in the jungle...
Amir Khan
Boxer Khan appeared on the 17th series of I’m a Celebrity in 2017, during which he placed fifth.
He competed in five Bushtucker Trials, but was most known for “strawberry gate”, where he convinced Iain Lee that they should eat the strawberries and cream they won in the Dingo Dollar challenge, rather than sharing them with the camp.

The 1975 have some things to say about 1995, as well. “Get back together, stop messing around,” singer Matty Healy advised Oasis in a recent Canadian radio interview. “Can you imagine being in potentially – right now, still – the coolest band in the world, and not doing it because you’re in a mard with your brother?” he argued. “Grow up, headline Glastonbury, have a good time.”
Indeed, at no point since their acrimonious 2009 split has the time been so perfect for an Oasis reunion. You see, Britpop has become a form of generational wonderwarfare. The most highly evolved Gen Zers have developed a reflex howl of “Ok Boomer!”, triggered whenever the older generations – misty-eyed behind their Lennon shades, and testing the seams of their vintage Fred Perry shirts – start banging on about the Nineties as a golden age of British pop culture. Lairy crime saga Rise of the Footsoldiers is the latest victim of a film-industry smash-and-grab: a new title. Do they think we’re mugs?
Fans of the preposterous low-budget British crime saga Rise of the Footsoldier have plenty to worry about. There’s the series’ Rotten Tomatoes score, which has oscillated from a high of 88% to a horrible low of 23%. There’s the sad realisation that Shaun Ryder won’t be in any of the new films, after he was so memorably stabbed to death with a lightbulb in the last one. And now they have a name change to contend with.

Warner Bros sequel likely to dominate, but will it match its record-breaking predecessor?
It: Chapter Two, Warner Bros’ sequel to its 2017 remake adaptation of the classic Stephen King horror novel, is the main story at the UK box office this weekend.
The previous film was a smash in the UK, setting the biggest all-time opening in the UK for a horror film with £10m from 605 sites in September 2017. Eventually, it reached £32.3m, which also makes it the biggest overall horror release of all time in the country. Its $700m worldwide gross also makes it the genre’s all-time global box office champion.

Jack O’Connell is in advanced negotiations to play Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder in Agc Studios’ “Twisting My Melon.” The project, which Agc will fully finance and co-produce, was announced at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
In addition to O’Connell, Jason Isaacs is in talks to play Derek Ryder, Shaun’s father. Holliday Grainger (“Cinderella”) will likely play Shaun’s girlfriend and Maxine Peake (“The Theory of Everything”) will portray his much-put-upon mother. The Happy Mondays were giants of the independent music scene in the U.K., combining elements of funk and psychedelia with hits such as “Hallelujah” and “Mad Cyril.”

Agc Studios is launching sales on and co-producing Twisting My Melon, a music biopic of Shaun Ryder, frontman for UK band the Happy Mondays.
Jack O’Connell (Unbroken), and Jason Isaacs (Hotel Mumbai) are in advanced negotiations to star as Ryder and his father, Derek Ryder, respectively. Also in discussions to join are Holliday Grainger (Patrick Melrose) as Ryder’s girlfriend and Maxine Peake (The Theory of Everything) as his long-suffering mum.
The cautionary rock fable will chart Ryder’s story from childhood, when he was desperate to play in a rock band like his father, a local working-class guitar hero dubbed the ‘Horseman’, to his rise as the frontman for 90s Manchester band the Happy Mondays. Production is slated to start in January, 2020.
Based on Ryder’s autobiography of the same name, the project was originated and developed by Control and Nowhere Boy scribe Matt Greenhalgh and his production company Maine Road Films.

Part based on Carlton Leach’s autobiography, the third instalment of this Essex and Spain-set crime thriller is tediously violent but has a decent soundtrack
Related: Mad fer it: Shaun Ryder has found his true calling – as a bargain-bin movie gangster
This Essex- and Spain-set, semi-fact-based crime thriller is part of a three-part mini-franchise, which started out as an adaptation of football hooligan/underworld figure Carlton Leach’s autobiography, although Leach isn’t relevant here. Instead, this focuses squarely on the unpleasant gang of drug dealers and thugs led by the eponymous Pat Tate who rose to prominence in the late 80s-early 90s and ended up (spoiler alert) very directly involved in the infamous Rettendon Range Rover murders of 1995.

The former Happy Mondays man delivers a virtuoso performance as Mad Dog in Rise of the Footsoldier 3. Could Hollywood soon come knocking?
Of all the left-field career lunges that Shaun Ryder has made over the years – Daily Sport columnist, ghost hunter, reality star, noted UFO authority – acting seems like the most straightforward. So you’ll be pleased to hear that, based on the scant evidence we’ve been provided with, the man is an absolute natural.
Now, the bad news: most of this evidence comes in the form of an extended cameo in a film released this week. The even worse news? That film is Rise of the Footsoldier 3: The Pat Tate Story, an unnecessary sequel to an obscure bargain-bin gangster film from a decade ago that has the look, feel and budget of a Towie Scarface cosplay weekender. The unauthorized Morrissey biopic England Is Mine premiered yesterday at Edinburgh International Film Festival, and at least one Moz associate has officially condemned it.
As Morrissey-solo.com points out, the Smiths singer’s close childhood friend James Maker — who performed at some early Smiths gigs in a role similar to Bez from the Happy Mondays and who later started his own projects Raymonde and Rpla — has shared some scathing words about the film. Some of them include “disingenuous,” “insulting” and “historical fiction.”

Disney’s announcement this week that it's launching a new digital network, and tucking away its former high-profile Maker Studios acquisition, brings to a whimpering end an entire era of multi-channel network mania that gripped media companies just a couple of years ago. Good. It’s time to move to the next stage of the digital-media business, one with promise of a more sustainable future.
Maker was the biggest, brashest, and most expensive of the MCNs to be purchased by a traditional media company in the first half of this decade. Since its acquisition, however, Maker and the McN phenomenon have already become web Ancient History.
As seen in this week’s string of NewFronts presentations by increasingly sophisticated digital-media publishers old and new, it’s time for the industry to take that next step.

March can be a real bummer when it comes to keeping yourself entertained — good new movies are few and far between, sweeps week is still a few months away, and Hamilton tickets are only getting more expensive. Lucky for us, the new crop of streaming titles is an embarrassment of riches that should keep you binge-watching until spring. Not only is Netflix is delivering new seasons of two marquee shows, but Hulu is wading deeper into the world of original content with a new Aaron Paul prestige drama that's bound to be a "cult" favorite.

Last night's Tfi Friday special brought back Chris Evans and reminded us of everything we forgot about the '90s.
Chris put together a true TV spectacle with star guests galore (Jeremy Clarkson! Tom Daley! Lewis Hamilton! Even Shaun Ryder!) But what did the critics think?

Chris Evans seems to think that if Tfi Friday returns for a full series, it should be with Nick Grimshaw as its presenter.
The duo briefly shared the stage tonight (June 12) during Evans's one-off revival of Tfi Friday, and talk quickly turned to the show's future.
"I think Nick is the future of the show," Evans told viewers. "I think this is good fun for us oldies, but if this show comes back he is the guy, he is the guy."
Grimshaw seemed to agree about Tfi Friday getting a full series, as he mouthed the word "yeah" following Evans's endorsement.

Jeremy Clarkson made his return to television tonight (June 12) alongside Chris Evans on the revival of Tfi Friday.
Clarkson appeared in a brief video teaching Evans how to properly introduce a car, poking fun at rumours about the future of Top Gear.
After demonstrating the proper Top Gear enunciation, Clarkson deadpanned: "You're not going to get my old job."
"Don't want it. I ruled myself out," Evans argued, prompting an annoyed Clarkson to retort: "You haven't been asked."
Lewis Hamilton then introduced a video parody of Evans's mother taking the slowest lap ever around the Top Gear track.
Evans fuelled rumours that he could replace Clarkson by revealing that he would be making a "secret Top Gear film".

The return of Tfi Friday tonight (June 11) after a 15-year hiatus was a monumental event for children of the 1990s.
Chris Evans certainly pulled out all of the stops for the entertainment show's return, including poking fun at Jeremy Clarkson's controversial departure from Top Gear.
10 classic Tfi Friday moments, from Shaun Ryder swearing to Freak or Unique
Of course, there were stars galore on hand as Amanda Seyfried, Nick Grimshaw and Tom Daley lent a hand in the jam-packed 90-minute special.
And if all of that wasn't enough, Evans was joined by music superstars such as The Who's Roger Daltrey, Rudimental, Blur, Liam Gallagher, Years & Years and potty-mouth Shaun Ryder.
Now that all of the fun's over for the time being, should Tfi Friday continue with a full series or is it best to leave it in the past?

Tfi Friday took extraordinary measures in ending Channel 4's live ban on Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder tonight (June 12).
Ryder's two foul-mouthed interviews with Chris Evans during Tfi Friday's original run were famously responsible for it going to a taped format.

Evans made light of his past with the musician by introducing Ryder on Channel 4's revival as being the reason "why Tfi Friday could never ever, ever be live".
Ryder then emerged with a piece of tape over his mouth, leading to a bit where he let loose with some indecipherable cursing.

There's no doubt that Tom Daley is an Olympian and a former world champion diver, but is he a freak or unique?
Daley dropped by Chris Evans's star-studded revival of Tfi Friday tonight to reveal that he was rejected as a child when he applied to appear on the series.

The diver wanted to perform his 'Mexican wave' trick while contorting his stomach to look pregnant - but was sadly turned down by Tfi Friday as a young chap.
Forget the Olympics - Tom finally got to achieve his dream of grossing out Chris Evans and a Channel 4 studio audience by finally taking part in the beloved 'Freak or Unique' segment.
