The latest Warner Animated DC feature film adapts the 2000-2001 Elseworlds miniseries Batman: The Doom that Came to Gotham. The fun of the Elseworlds comics, and soon the live-action versions under the new artistic regime, is taking the familiar and imagining them in other times and other places. Here, we do back to the early 20th century and overlay it with a dose of Loftcraftian horror.
Cowritten by Mike Mignola and Richard Pace, two men better known for their artistic skills, this story was designed for visual impact, something Troy Nixey did well in print, and the animators from Jase Ricci’s script and co-directed by Sam Liu and Christopher Berkeley, replicate nicely.
Basically, an arctic expedition headed by Bruce Wayne (David Giuntoli), sent to check on a previous team led by Professor Oswald Cobblepot (William Salyers) reveals horrors and a missing professor. The only surviving is Grendon (David Dastmalchian...

Based on a 2001 three-issue comic book miniseries written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Richard Pace, Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham is an alternate-world tale that introduced an alternate version of Bruce Wayne and the residents of Gotham to Lovecraftian horrors. It’s the most overtly horrific entry in the animated Batman franchise as well as the strangest.
In the 1920s an expedition led by Bruce Wayne arrives in Antarctica looking for another expedition, this one led by Professor Cobblepot. What he finds instead are mutated creatures and the professor’s undead assistant Grendon whom he brings back to Gotham.

The best of DC Comics’ Elseworlds stories where when the writers challenged the conventional wisdom, upending how we envisioned our heroes. Among the more celebrated of these stories was Mark Millar and Dave Johnson’s Superman: Red Son, imagining the Kryptonian rocket ship landing in Soviet Russia, not Kansas.

Now that Batman: Gotham by Gaslight has opened the door for various other Elseworlds tales to be adapted as animated films, Superman: Red Son will be the first to follow in its footsteps. To be quite honest, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise because the limited series written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Dave Johnson has long remained one of the most popular in the line, not to mention DC fans demanding this become a reality for years.
To briefly sum up what that story entailed for those unfamiliar, what you need to know going into your first viewing of the animated flick is that it explored that possibility of baby Kal-El’s rocket landing in Soviet Russia instead of in Smallville, Kansas. As you can imagine, the Comrade of Steel had a very different upbringing than the hero we’ve come to know otherwise.

DC's animated movie adaptation of Superman: Red Son is almost here. Here's everything you need to know...
Superman: Red Son is the next iconic DC Comics story to get the animated feature treatment, and it's coming very, very soon!
Indeed, the 2003 comic miniseries from Mark Millar, Dave Johnson, and Killian Plunkett, which might just be the best known Elseworlds tale ever, is set land its animated movie in February, 2020.
The original story imagines a world where baby Kal-El's ship crashed in Ukraine instead of Kansas, and then Superman was raised as a Soviet superweapon. It features some of the sharpest Elseworlds design work ever done, adapting the entire Justice League into brutalist Soviet art styles. And it's one of those rare Millar books where the heart is bigger than the shock value of the story.

We recently learned that the classic DC comic Batman: The Long Halloween is going to be getting a two-part animated film from Warner Bros. Animation. Well, now another classic DC comic story is reportedly in development.
According to Revenge of the Fans, DC is developing an animated adaptation of Mark Millar’s Superman: Red Son. This is another DC Comics story that fans have been wanting to see adapted for a long time. I’m not sure why it took so long, but at least it’s happening now!
For those of you unfamiliar with Red Son, it’s an Elseworld story that puts an interesting twist on the Superman mythology… what if Superman crash-landed in the Soviet Union instead of Kansas?
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Imagine a reality where the world’s most powerful super-being does not grow up in Smallville, Kansas – or even America, for that matter…...

The notion of placing Batman in other times and places seems so obvious now, but when Brian Augustyn first hatched the notion with Mark Waid, it was radical. As Augustyn recounts on the 21 minute Caped Fear: The First Elseworld featurette, it was immediately embraced. So enticing was the concept that when artist Mike Mignola first heard about it, he kept saying he had no time but then kept contributing ideas that it was clear he’d make the time.

Continuing our coverage on the upcoming DC Animation Batman: Gotham By Gaslight, we have a new clip! In this clip Selina Kyle gets stalked by the infamous serial killer, Jack the Ripper. Is Selina Kyle prey or predator? You be the judge.
By the cover photo (provided by Warner Bros.) it looks like Selina Kyle is either luring Jack the Ripper into a trap or that she just got to a point to where she knew she would have to fight back. It’s obviously from the same scene because the pig carcasses hanging from the ceiling match up with ones in the clip. We all know Selina wouldn’t go out with out a fight.

Last year, Warner Bros. treated us with the awesome Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, which saw the likes of Adam West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar reprise their roles of Batman, Robin and Catwoman, respectively. Being essentially the beginning to a fourth season we never received, it surpassed expectations by retaining the feel of the classic 1960’s television series, while also featuring grandiose action scenes that could’ve never been accomplished on the budget of the show.
Having said that, we’re thrilled to see that its sequel, Batman vs. Two-Face, looks like it may be even better. In addition to the return of the aforementioned actors, expect William Shatner to lend his pipes to the dichotomous Harvey Dent, a character who never actually appeared on the TV show itself during its original run.

When Batman debuted on ABC in 1966, I was not yet eight years old, a prime target for this pop-art event. I was already a diehard comic book fan and couldn’t contain my excitement at seeing the heroes and villains come off the four-color pages and onto our then-new color TV. I was very excited and had no clue just how campy it was. That came later as the reruns began on Wpix and throughout the 1970s.

Believe it or not, we’re about to receive our fourth animated movie headlined by a certain masked hero this year when Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders arrives this fall. The difference, of course, being that this one continues the proud legacy of the television series from the 1960’s, which happens to be celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Although it has been known for some time that Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar are reprising their iconic roles of Batman, Robin, and Catwoman, respectively, it has remained a mystery as to who would round out the rest of the cast – until now, that is.

Tim here. Our tour of the films submitted for this year's Best Animated Feature Oscar now takes us to the most obscure American-made film on the list, Regular Show: The Movie. It's a spin-off of an absurdist Cartoon Network series – that is, absurdist even by the standards of Cartoon Network – which was given the tiniest whisper of a theatrical release to ensure the publicity of articles like this one. So, a success!
The film has the freaked-out energy of a kid on a sugar rush, and assembles its plot in roughly as coherent a manner: in the future, talking raccoon Rigby (William Salyers) and talking bluebird Mordecai (director & series creator J.G. Quintel), formerly best friends, are on opposite sides of a galactic war to stop a rift in the space-time continuum for devouring all of existence. The only way to do this is for a mortally wounded Rigby to travel back to the present,...

The original Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, has joined the season-two cast of Halo 5's 'Hunt the Truth' series.
The famed Star Wars actor is among several other series newcomers whose voices will be featured in the second season, including Tamara Taylor, Vanessa Marshall, Alan Tudyk, Rosa Salazar, Bruce Thomas, Peter Serafinowicz and William Salyers.
Halo 5 Guardians: Everything you need to know, including story, beta and release date
Halo franchise development director Frank O'Connor, 'Hunt the Truth' creative director Noah Eichen and season two lead Janina Gavankar have shared a sound clip from the upcoming season with Time.
The brief recording consists primarily of the voice behind Fero, Gavankar, the rebel leader who saved fictional war journalist Benjamin Giraud from grave danger in the first season.
'Hunt the Truth' aims to expose the "real" story of Master Chief in a series of weekly audio clips, which make up part of Giraud's investigation of the Halo protagonist.

Oh, Dragon Con, how I adore you! Let me count the ways…
They include:
1. The fact that even the airline losing my luggage until 3 a.m. on arrival Thursday feels like something I can roll with, since, after all, the minute I walk in I find old friends (and new) to greet me and take my mind off of things – and to commiserate, and hope with me that all of my toiletries and hand-made costume items are not lost forever in the bowels of Reagan National. Thankfully they weren’t. 2. The costumes, oh the costumes. Including my own! This year, a Harley Quinn / Jake the Dog mash-up (with hand-painted grenades, and my partner-in-crime Poison Ivy / Princess Bubblegum and bonus convertible-to-party-time skirt); Pinky from Pinky & the Brain (with my friend Chicken Boo, who is definitely not a chicken); and Helena from Orphan Black (complete with bloody fortune-teller). Great costumes I saw...

In my review of The Amazing World of Gumball: Season 1 I spoke about how, as a kid I adored two cartoons in particular – Beavis and Butthead and Ren & Stimpy. I also said that Gumball was, at it’s core, very similar to Ren & Stimpy… Well consider Regular Show to be this generations Beavis and Butthead. Featuring the same ridiculous situations, the same ridiculous humour; and even two best friends who Laugh like Mike Judge’s irreverent duo. All Regular Show is missing is the social commentary and crude toilet humour.
That’s not to say there still isn’t something a little subversive about the series, far from it. Like it’s stable-mates, The Amazing World of Gumball and Adventure Time, Regular Show has just enough “adult” content...

(Cbr) It’s hard not to like Mordecai and Rigby, the animal heroes of Cartoon Network’s "Regular Show". Featuring the same brand of off-the-wall humor that has made shows like "Adventure Time" resonate with audiences, the hit series is now rounding the bases on its fifth season. At WonderCon 2014 in Anaheim, the writers and voice actors behind the hit series hosted a panel full of laughs to discuss the current season and what’s next for Mordecai, Rigby and the rest of the gang. The panel began with a video spotlight introducing the assembled talent with clips from previous shows they’ve worked on. "Regular Show" writer Matt Price then waltzed onto the stage in “tants” — pants with a square top around the waist — which Price said come in very handy, especially considering he has to put his notes for the panel down somewhere. After the laughter died down,...

Starting in 2010 and to relative little fanfare, two shows of immense creativity came out of nowhere and seemed to propose that cartoons return to a time when imagination was king and simple hand animation wasn't a sign of being behind the times. The shows in questions were Cartoon Network's Adventure Time with Finn & Jake and Regular Show, the former of which we covered just recently. And while Adventure Time took off rather quickly thanks to its whimsical fantasy setting with nerdy jokes, Regular Show didn't burst into the pop culture consciousness quite as effortlessly. But it deserved to, and more recently it's begun to get the attention it deserves. The first two seasons of the show are now out on Blu-ray, and they make for an enjoyable introduction to the strangely hilarious misadventures of Mordecai the Blue Jay (voiced by series creator J.G. Quintel) and Rigby the Raccoon (William Salyers).
