Johnny Depp reunited with director Terry Gilliam on the red carpet of the UK premiere of French filmmaker MaÏwenn’s costume drama Jeanne du Barry on Monday evening.
Depp’s London-based film company In.2 is gearing up to release the Court of Versailles-set tale across the UK from this Friday, April 19.
Gilliam, who directed Depp in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009), jokingly ticked Depp off for his late arrival.
“Sorry, it’s too late — the film has started 10 minutes ago,” quipped Gilliam as Depp arrived at the Curzon Mayfair cinema.
He then referred to Depp as the “new Jackie Chan” as the actor enveloped him in a bear hug, seemingly in reference to the fact the star has been working out.

Johnny Depp has responded to recent accusations from actress Lola Glaudini, who claimed the actor berated and mistreated her while filming a scene for the 2001 film Blow.
In a resurfaced episode of the Powerful Truth Angels podcast from Jan. 30, Glaudini recalled one scene where the film’s star Depp was doing a monologue and director Ted Demme (who died in 2002) instructed her to “burst out laughing” when he said a specific line.
“I hear the cue, and I go hahaha, I do a big laugh or whatever,” Glaudini said, noting that she did it for several takes. “Johnny Depp, when they say cut, walks over to me, comes up to me, sticks his finger in my face — and I’m in a bikini on the ground like this — and he comes over and he goes, ‘Who the fuck do you think you are? Who the fuck do you think you are?...

MGM has bought the Johnny Depp drama “Minamata” and has set an awards-season release of Feb. 5, 2021, through its revived American International Pictures label.
MGM also acquired all rights to “Minamata” in Canada, Germany and Switzerland. The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February.
Set in 1971, Depp portrays photojournalist Eugene Smith, who’s become a recluse and disconnected from the world he once shot. After receiving one final assignment from Life Magazine editor Robert Hayes (played by Bill Nighy), he must travel to the Japanese coastal city of Minamata, which has been ravaged by mercury poisoning. Assisted by an impassioned Japanese translator and encouraged by local villagers, his powerful images expose decades of gross negligence by the country’s Chisso Corporation.
“Minamata” also stars Jun Kunimura, Ryo Kase, Tadanobu Asano and Akiko Iwase. Andrew Levitas directed the film from a screenplay by Levitas, David K. Kessler, Stephen Deuters and Jason Forman.

When Julien Nitzberg was hired to write a TV movie about the life of late pop star Michael Jackson, he found it impossible to detail his stained legacy and make something that would be acceptable to a network. So, he didn’t — and took the story to the stage instead.
“When I said ‘no’ to the Michael Jackson biopic, I’m sure they offered the job to another writer,” said Nitzberg, whose credits include the documentary “The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia.” “I have no idea what happened to the project. In Hollywood, they develop so many things that never get made. My guess is that they never cracked how to tell the story. Because no one can really know what went on in Michael’s head or house, it’s an impossible story to tell and not have it be fully, non-logically absurd.”

Although Marvel has yet to test its formula for a team-up movie until The Avengers is unleashed next May, it's proceeding to explore other ensemble possibilities.
Earlier this year, it was rumoured that the comic book giant was considering making its Inhumans title into a film and now comes news of the Guardians of the Galaxy series advancing towards the screen.
The first incarnation of the supergroup appeared in print in 1969, while a revamped line-up surfaced in 2008. Comprising several aliens, each the last of their kind, the team travels back in time to save planet Earth from an invasion by an evil race called the Badoon.
Talk of a live-action film started up again last week, not long after headway appeared to be made on a Doctor Strange adaptation.
Marvel Studios founder Avi Arad had hinted at a Guardians film in 2009 and production president Kevin Feige confirmed the possibility last year.

“The Vault” may have only been released earlier this week, but steps are already being made to turn it into a feature film. Yesterday Johnny Depp and Graham King announced they have purchased the rights to the sci-fi comic and are making plans to get it on the big screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christi Dembrowski, Graham King and Tim Headington are set to produce. The story follows deep sea divers who discover a sarcophagus in the inky depths and accidentally free a terrible force from it.
The graphic novel will be published in three issues, and as of now only the first one has been released. It’s unknown yet whether each issue could possibly become a movie, making a trilogy, or if just one film is planned to cover all three issues.
Sam Sarkar, the writer of “The Vault,” is Senior Vice President at Infinitum Nihil, Depp’s production company.

The latest comic book story to get a development deal is The Vault, an Image Comics title written by Sam Sarkar and drawn by Garrie Gastonny. This one has a better chance of making it to screens than most, as Sam Sarkar is also an exec at Johnny Depp's production company Infinitum Nihil, and one of the producers on the film is Graham King (The Tourist, Rango, Hugo). THR [1] reports the deal, summarizing the comic like so: "the underwater sci-fi story centers on a group of divers who, off the coast of Nov Scotia, uncover a sarcophagus with unusual remains and inadvertently unleash an ancient evil." Underwater? Translate to: expensive. But Graham King tends to get behind films that get made, and his Gk Films is a company with a good track record in the past few years when it comes to following through on development projects. The rights to The Vault, a new three-issue mini-series published by Image Comics, have been picked up Graham King's Gk Films before the second issue of the series has even hit the stands. Depp and Christi Dembrowski, president of Nihil, will co-produce alongside King and Tim Headington of Gk.

Johnny Depp's film production company, Infinitum Nihil, is planning on bringing new comic The Vault to the big screen. They will do so in partnership with Graham King's company Gk Films, who just picked up the rights to the comic. Infinitum Nihil recently partnered with Gk Films on the hilarious animated western Rango, starring Depp as the new sheriff / lizard in town.
There is no word yet as to whether Depp will appear in the film, but it will obviously be a project close to his heart. The writer for the comic, Sam Sarkar, is an executive at Depp's Infinitum Nihil production company; and the multi-talented Sarkar was also an actor in the late 80's / early 90's who appeared in an episode of 21 Jump Street with Depp back in 1989.
Gk Films is also the production company behind Martin Scorsese's Hugo, (formerly Hugo Cabret), set to be released in November of this year.
