Are you ready to go back to the beach?
Fox sure is.
On Monday, the network confirmed a reboot of the iconic 1989-2001 series is in the works.
The project already has a showrunner attached in Lara Olsen – best known for Netflix’s brilliant but canceled Spinning Out.
There will also be some creatives from the original series along to tackle this new wave.
Original creators Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, and Gregory J. Bonann have all scored executive producer credits for the one-hour drama.
What is the Baywatch reboot about?
The updated Baywatch features “daring ocean rescues, pristine beaches, and iconic red bathing suits are back, along with a whole new generation of Baywatch lifeguards,” according to the official logline.
These new lifeguards “navigate complicated, messy personal lives in this action-packed reboot that demonstrates there’s the family you’re born into and the family you find.”

Time to suit up and head back to the beach! Deadline reports that Fremantle is developing a reboot of Baywatch, the classic 90s action drama which starred David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, and more.
It’s still early days as no creatives are attached to the Baywatch reboot, but Fremantle has had early talks with networks and streaming services about the project. Baywatch was created by Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Gregory J. Bonann, and followed a group of lifeguards who patrolled the beaches of LA County. The show was originally produced for NBC but was cancelled after just one season. The producers believed in the series enough that they bought back the rights and produced a syndicated version of the series. The bet paid off big time as Baywatch became one of the most-watched shows in the world and ran for ten more seasons. The show also spawned a spinoff series,...

Gregory Bonann was a lifeguard at Will Rogers State Beach in 1977 when he helped two children who were caught in a riptide. That rescue would ultimately change his life – and the face of television, setting the stage for the eventual “Baywatch” juggernaut.
Now, with the new feature adaptation of “Baywatch” in theaters this weekend, it’s time to revisit the unusual story of how the lifeguard show made it on the air – ultimately producing 242 episodes before ending its run in 2001.
It all started because it turns out Bonnan had saved the children of Stu Erwin, an executive at Mtm – the independent production company behind series like “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “The Bob Newhart Show,” and run by legendary exec Grant Tinker.
While visiting Mtm’s offices in Studio City, Bonann pitched Erwin on a drama about lifeguards. The company passed, but Bonann took the opportunity to learn all about the TV biz.

Paramount’s casting process for its “badass” and R-rated Baywatch movie has been fascinating to watch largely because it’s shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Announced via the actor’s ever-popular Instagram, the actress best known for her roles in Chi-Raq and HBO’s Show Me a Hero is set to play Stef, a “strong, intelligent and formidable” love interest to Johnson’s Mitch Buchannon. Here’s the official post:

Sherwood Schwartz, the creator of "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch," two of the most iconic television series, has died at the age of 94. He was being treated for an intestinal infection and underwent several surgeries. He died with his wife and children at his side. Schwartz was working on a big-screen version of "Gilligan's Island," said his nephew Douglas Schwartz, who created the hit series "Baywatch." Douglas called his uncle a longtime mentor and caring "second father" who helped guide him successfully through show business. Schwartz was born in 1916 in Passaic, NJ, and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. His brother, already working for Bob Hope, got him a job when Sherwood was still in college. Schwartz gave up a career in medical science to write jokes for Hope's radio show. He went on to write for other radio and TV shows, including "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet." "Bob liked my jokes,...

Los Angeles -- Sherwood Schwartz, writer-creator of two of the best-remembered TV series of the 1960s and 1970s, "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch," has died at age 94.
Great niece Robin Randall said Schwartz died at 4 a.m. Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was being treated for an intestinal infection and underwent several surgeries. His wife, Mildred, and children had been at his side.
Sherwood Schwartz and his brother, Al, started as a writing team in TV's famed 1950s "golden age," said Douglas Schwartz, the late Al Schwartz's son.
"They helped shape television in its early days," Douglas Schwartz said. "Sherwood is an American classic, creating `Brady Bunch' and `Gilligan's Island,' iconic shows that are still popular today. He continued to produce all the way up into his 90s."

Sherwood Schwartz, who created and wrote the iconic 1960s and '70s TV series Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch, died today. He was 94. Schwartz was working on a big-screen version of Gilligan's Island, he nephew told the Associated Press, before he was hospitalized at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles about a week ago with an intestinal infection. Schwartz was born in 1916 in Passaic, N.J., and grew up in Brooklyn. He teamed as a writer with his brother Al, who worked for Bob Hope and got Sherwood a job writing jokes for Hope's radio show while still in college. They eventually wrote for other radio and TV series including The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. "They helped shape television in its early days," said Douglas Schwartz, Al's son and creator of Baywatch, who credits his uncle as a mentor. Dan Curtis’ Burnt Offerings (1976) was the first horror film/thriller that I saw. I was twelve years-old and its impact on me was indelible. The rapport between Karen Black, Oliver Reed, and Lee Harcourt Montgomery was plausible enough to make me extremely concerned when all hell broke loose on this “perfect” family, though some have argued that this family was frightening enough without the house!
Aside from the artful cinematic visual style and the film’s methodic and slow build-up, the performances by the three leads and supporting work from Burgess Meredith, Eileen Heckart, Dub Taylor, Bette Davis, and the unforgettable Anthony James as the chauffer elevate the film higher than similar genre productions. What also helped make Burnt Offerings so memorable was Robert Cobert’s phenomenal score which fits the movie like a glove. For years I searched fruitlessly...

[1] Earlier this month, a in-house promotional teaser trailer leaked [2] for Soul Surfer, a drama about young, teenage surfer girl (played by Bridge To Terabithia/Race To Witch Mountain's AnnaSophia Robb) who "summons the courage to go back into the ocean after losing an arm in a shark attack." When I posted the teaser, I was kind of weirded out that it contained no hint of a shark attack -- the teaser made it out like the film is just a happy-go-lucky story about a teenage girl surfer. That and a really cheesy speech from Carrie Underwood. Written and directed by Sean McNamara (Bring it On: Fight To The Finish, Into The Blue 2: The Reef, Bratz, 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain), the film co-starring Dennis Quaid,...

Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, AnnaSophia Robb and Carrie Underwood are set to star in Sean McNamara's indie drama "Soul Surfer," a film about surfing champion Bethany Hamilton and her shark attack.
Robb will play the central character, according to Variety. She plats Hamilton, who went on to win professional surfing championships after losing one arm in a shark attack when she was 13 years old.
Hunt and Quaid are on board to play her parents, while Underwood play a church youth leader (one that probably sings). McNamara, Deborah Schwartz, Douglas Schwartz and Michael Berk wrote the script.
"Surfer" is already shooting. McNamara also helmed "Raise Your Voice" and "Bratz." Quaid can now be seen in "Legion." Robb starred in "Race to Witch Mountain," and for Underwood, this will be her film debut.
