Vladimir Semichastny was born on January 15, 1924 in Grigorevka, Yekaterinoslav Governorate, Ukrainian SSR, USSR [now Mezhova, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Ukraine]. He died on January 12, 2001 in Moscow, Russia.
Head of the KGB from November 1961 to April 1967. Participated in the
ouster of then-premier Nikita Khrushchev in October 1964. Leonid Brezhnev supposedly
wanted Khrushchev to be assassinated, but Semichastny refused.
