How’s this for a show about nothing? With their mega-“Seinfeld”-to-Netflix deal, which insiders have valued at $500 million-plus, co-creators Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld continue to make huge money on a show that last aired a new episode during the Clinton administration. Both David and Seinfeld stand to make nine figures each, two people with knowledge of the breakdown told TheWrap. One pegged the windfall between $100-$125 million apiece, while a second told TheWrap it was significantly higher. Representatives for David, Seinfeld, “Seinfeld” studio Castle Rock Entertainment and its parent company Warner Bros., distributor Sony and buyer Netflix all declined to comment on this story. Of course, David, who famously played New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner on the series, and Seinfeld, who played a version of himself, are not the only ones making big bucks. Warner Bros. TV is taking home a big piece of the pie,...

Chicago – Say the name Whit Stillman in certain cinema circles, and a rush of admiration soon follows. The director made a name for himself with his debut film “Metropolitan’ (1990), and followed with the same emotional pallette in “Barcelona” (1994). He is back with an adaptation of a Jane Austin novel, entitled “Love & Friendship.”
The title is taken from one of Jane Austin’s short stories, but the narrative is from her novel “Lady Susan,” published 60 years after her death. It involves the title character (portrayed in the film by Kate Beckinsale), a widow without fortune, who is looking to marry again to wealth, and wishes the same for her daughter. She visits the estate of her sister-in-law and brother-in-law – Charles and Catherine Vernon – in the hopes of making a match for her lovely child Frederica, or at least herself.

David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook" was the big winner at the 28th annual Independent Spirit Awards held in Santa Monica, CA this afternoon and hosted by Andy Samberg. "Silver Linings" took home the Best Feature, Actress (Jennifer Lawrence), Director, and Screenplay trophies.

Michael Haneke's "Amour," a darling of the 85th Academy Awards, deservingly won Best International Film.

Today the 2013 Spirit Awards were handed out and it was a dominating effort from Silver Linings Playbook as it won Best Picture, Director (David O. Russell), Actress (Jennifer Lawrence) and Screenplay (Russell). The only award it was nominated for and didn't win was Best Actor where Bradley Cooper lost to John Hawkes for The Sessions, but that's only a minor blip on the radar when you win this big. Among the early awards handed out, Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower won for Best First Feature while Derek Connolly won for Best First Screenplay for the romantic sci-fi film Safety Not Guaranteed. Then the Twitterverse exploded with a Best Supporting Actor win for Matthew McConaughey and his work in Magic Mike, which, for a time, seemed like it may be able to eek into that last Supporting slot at the Oscars. No dice, a Spirit Award it will have to be.

Nominations for the 28th Film Independent Spirit Awards were announced today and were led by Moonrise Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook with five nominations each followed closely by fellow Best Feature nominees Beasts of the Southern Wild and Keep the Lights On as well as Ava DuVernay's Middle of Nowhere, each with four nominations. Richard Linklater's Bernie was the fifth Best Feature nominee while Middle of Nowhere found its four nominations largely in the acting categories with Emayatzy Corinealdi, David Oyelowo and Lorraine Toussant all being nominated and the fourth for the John Cassavetes Award, which goes to the "best" film made for under $500,000. Looking over the list of nominees I can't help but shrug at the screenplay nomination for Ruby Sparks (a film I loathed), but it's nice to see some First Time Feature love for Colin Trevorrow's Safety Not Guaranteed and Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower,...

Here’s another casting story of today: Hugh Grant, known for his male lead roles in many romantic comedies, will return to the romantic comedy genre in his fourth rom-com collaboration with Marc Lawrence.
The untitled picture, also written by Lawrence will begin shooting in New York this April.
In this Hollywood comedy, set
in 1998, Ray Michaels (Grant) was on top of the world — a witty, sexy, Englishman in Hollywood who had just won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. Fifteen years later, he’s creatively washed up, divorced, and broke. With no other options, he takes a job teaching screenwriting at a small college on the East Coast. Although the idea of teaching is less than thrilling, he hopes to make some easy money and enjoy the favors of impressionable young co-eds. What he doesn’t expect to find is romance with a single mom who’s gone back to school.

The highly anticipated third chapter in Richard Linklater's "Before Sunrise/set" saga has completed filming, and is officially titled "Before Midnight," it was announced today. Exclusive: Buyers arriving at the Toronto Film Festival tomorrow already have a lot of sales titles to consider (more on that tomorrow). Here’s another title to add to the mix: Richard Linklater just wrapped shooting in Messinia, Greece on Before Midnight, the third film in a series that began with Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. Before Midnight, which has Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke reprising their roles as star-crossed lovers Celine and Jesse, was once again scripted by Linklater, Delpy and Hawke, the same team that got an Oscar nom in 2005 for Before Sunset. Linklater shot the film quietly, as many didn’t think it would happen before 2013. There won’t be a sizzle reel or script to read at Toronto, because the film wrapped late last night. But Cinetic Media’s John Sloss will be handling domestic sales once again and he will be at Toronto with other films.
