Jennifer Nettles, lead vocalist of the country duo Sugarland and a successful solo artist, got into acting by playing Dolly Parton’s mother in the 2015 TV movie Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors. Since then she has appeared in the sequel to that movie, Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, performed in Chicago and Waitress on Broadway, had roles in the film Harriet and the TV series Underground, and appeared on multiple episodes of the HBO show The Righteous Gemstones… which happens to be executive produced by David Gordon Green, so that paved the way for her to have a role in Green’s most recent film, The Exorcist: Believer. Now Deadline reports that Nettles is following her Exorcist role by being cast in another genre project: the horror action series The Bondsman!

Writer Melissa Scrivner-Love (Fear the Walking Dead) has set up two projects in development: action one-hour Strong Girl at the CW, with Ronda Rousey and Ben Silverman executive producing, and detective drama Witnesses at Fox with Mark-Paul Gosselaar executive producing. Scrivner-Love is writing and executive producing both.
The CW’s Strong Girl, from CBS TV Studios, is an adaptation of a Korean format. It follows a former war photographer named Rayna who discovers she is indestructible and potentially the strongest woman in the world. Ghosted by her Spec Ops fiance when she reveals her newfound power to him, Rayna is hired as a bodyguard by a billionaire named Oliver, who sees her true potential.
Wrestler, Mma fighter and actress Rousey executive produces in her first foray into scripted television, alongside Jane the Virgin exec producer Silverman of Propagate Content.
In Witnesses, from 20th Century Fox TV and Stampede, in her first weeks back on the Lexington, Ky, police force after a mysterious 10-year hiatus, 35-year-old (yet still rookie) Detective Sandra Perkins finds herself working the worst homicide the region has seen in over a decade. In order to end this killer’s spree, Sandra must seek answers from Helen Lane, retired Homicide Detective who should have been Sandra’s mentor, but who is actually the reason Sandra left the force years ago. Our two heroines must work through the dark past they share in order to prevent more innocent victims of a killer they both thought had been put to rest years ago.
Gosselaar, star of Fox/20th TV’s upcoming vampire drama The Passage, executive produces with Stampede’s Greg Silverman as well as Paul Shapiro.
Last season, Scrivner-Love teamed with Ilene Chaiken to write and executive produce an FBI drama, which went to pilot at Fox with Katie Holmes starring. Her series credits also include Person of Interest and Rosewood. She is repped by Wme and 3 Arts.

I never really noticed or paid attention to ReelzChannel, now just Reelz, an odd collection of off-network fare, cross-promoting what else is on cable and original programming. So, when Ring of Fire crossed my desk, I knew nothing about it. A miniseries that aired in the spring, it features a familiar cast headlined by Michael Vartan (Alias), Terry O’Quinn (Lost), and Lauren Lee Smith (The L Word). It’s a low budget disaster movie that traces how deep drilling for oil accidentally taps molten lava, triggering a chain reaction that brings the world close to an Extinction Level Event.
The small town is filled with the usual cookie-cutter assortment of characters with conflicts aplenty such as the oil rig worker who lost his son due to his brother’s carelessness and guess who’s out of jail in time to use his knowledge of the old mines? Or that...

Were it not for a Philadelphia lawyer and his wife, 50 more children likely would have perished at the hands of the Nazis.
While 50 may sound trifling considering 1.5 million children were killed in the Holocaust, the 50 brought to America represented the largest number of children saved at one time.
The little-known story is told in "50 Children: The Rescue Mission of Mr. and Mrs. Kraus," airing on HBO Monday, April 8, which is Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Alan Alda narrates the well-done documentary, which weaves entries from Eleanor Kraus' journals, read by Mamie Gummer. Interviews with survivors and scholars are interspersed with clips and photos detailing the heartbreak of parents begging strangers to take their children.
"Fundamentally, the most important component of it is you see two individuals recognizing the situation in which they might do something or might not," Paul Shapiro, director of the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum,...
