Sad news: Susan Sheridan, the voice of Trillian in The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, has died at the age of 68.
Some sad news to report. Over the weekend, news broke that the actress Susan Sheridan had died, at the age of 68. She died at home, peacefully, and is survived by her three daughters and her husband.
Sheridan was best known for her excellent voice acting work, and she more than likely came to the attention of many of us for voicing Trillian in the wonderful radio series of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. She also had a major voice role in Disney's troubled animated movie, The Black Cauldron, and her credits also included the Moomin TV series, and the much-loved The Family Ness.
Our thoughts are with her family and friends. And our thanks are very much with Susan Sheridan, for the wonderful work that she left behind.

Zoe provides an introduction to the TV version of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, a television series unlike any other...
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable series. In fact it's arguably the most remarkable series ever to come out of the British Broadcasting Corporation. Not only is it a remarkable series it is also a highly successful one, having already been produced as a radio series, novel, LP and stage show.
Labelled by unimaginative producers as ‘unfilmable’, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was aired on BBC two in January 1981 to an eagerly awaiting audience of fans and hoopy froods alike. The award winning series starred many of the original cast members including Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox and Peter Jones as the voice of the guide; however for the TV series a new Trillian and Ford Prefect were required.

Disney is well known for its ability to create innovative and creative animated movies. While films like The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast enjoy huge notoriety, there are still a lot of Disney films that are not as widely known to the public. The Black Cauldron is one among many films being repackaged and released to a new audience, especially with the widespread usage of digital and Blu-Ray media. Its release is especially important to Disney, as it marks the company's 25th full-length animated film, as well as the 25th anniversary since its original release.
The story of The Black Cauldron, centers around a naive pig keeper's assistant Taran (Grant Bardsley), and his quest to destroy a magical black cauldron to thwart a devious ruler, the Horned King (John Hurt). In this film, he is teamed up with a young princess, an old minstrel, and a psychic pig named Hen-Wen,...

Fantasy author Lloyd Alexander was beloved for his imaginative series, the Chronicles of Prydain so anyone who read the series, originally released between 1964 and 1968, were no doubt apprehensive to see the entire story collapsed into an 80 minute animated feature from Walt Disney.
The filmmakers decided to focus on the second book, The Black Cauldron, and substantially altered characters, settings, and events so when it opened July 24, 1985, fans of the material were not happy. Worse, people unfamiliar with the source material were not particularly entertained leading to a box office collapse. That this film came at the tail end of a period where creativity was clearly lacking meant that it looked and felt like a generic Disney animated film. Jeffrey Katzenberg arrived on staff just prior to the film’s release and he could merely nip and tuck sequences, but recognized their most expensive feature to date, and the first to use computer-generated animation,...

That he was born is just one of the many undeniable facts about the life of the late Douglas Adams - author, humorist, raconteur, speaker, and thinker (although it should be noted that, on at least one parallel Earth, Mr. Adams was born a spring-toed lemur with a predilection for grassy fields and the works of Byron - a poetic lemur whose work was not terribly springy).
Another fact which comes to mind is that, of the 7 novels he wrote in his all-too-brief lifetime, by far the most popular is The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and its four sequels - which make for a fine trilogy if you’re somewhat numerically impaired. Please don’t take this as a slight against Adams’s other novels, featuring detective Dirk Gently (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and its sequel, The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul), as they...
