The kid who stayed in pictures dies after a long life worthy of a movie of its own. Robert Evans brought film into a new era.
Robert Evans, actor-turned-producer-turned-Paramount Pictures president, who made films like Chinatown, Marathon Man, Love Story, Rosemary's Baby, The Godfather and The Godfather Part II possible, died Saturday, October 26, according to Variety. He was 89. No cause of death was announced.
Evans' movies were not intended to be blockbusters. He didn't even care if they were commercial. He wanted his films to be original. The Godfather got made because Evans thought Hollywood presented a false depiction of the mob. He had a friend get the rights to Mario Puzo's as-yet-incomplete novel and persuaded Francis Ford Coppola to direct the film. His life was as original as any of the films he was responsible for. Evans' third wife Ali MacGraw was stolen from...

Progressive digital news service The Young Turks Network (Tyt) launched a linear channel on YouTube's live television service in May with a slate of four new shows -- its largest concurrent programming addition ever.
Now, the company is adding three more shows to the lineup -- for a grand total of more than a dozen YouTube TV series. The new shows include: Reasonably Shure, a 30-minute weekly interview program hosted by seasoned political analyst Michael Shure; Rebel HQ, in which host Cenk Uygur will cover the grassroots movement and candidates running to unseat establishment Democrats; and The Jimmy Dore Show, in which the political satirist will skewer corporate-controlled media. While Shure's show is brand new, Rebel HQ and The Jimmy Dore Show are already running elsewhere across Tyt's distribution network.

Fans of the longest-running, biggest news show on the internet, The Young Turks, already know "Epic Politics Man" Michael Shure very well, but for the past few months, he has been trying to reach a new group of viewers as host of Current TV's The War Room. Although he's caught in the Romulan Neutral Zone between Current TV and its transition to Al Jazeera America, Shure is proud of the show he's putting on, and took time to chat with me about The War Room, his history with The Young Turks, his bad blood with Tom Brokaw, and odd connection to Mediaite founder Dan Abrams.

On the heels of reporting on the Newt Gingrich campaign's Tigger-esque checkbook, Current TV's The Young Turks interviewed a small businessman who says he was stiffed by the presidential (still) (mystifyingly) hopeful. Tyt contributor Michael Shure interviewed Las Vegas businessman Larry Scheffler, who says Gingrich owes him about $8,000.00, and that even though Gingrich blew him off on the phone when he tried to collect, he would still vote for the former House Speaker over President Obama.
