- Well-known in London as the proprietor of several fast-food outlets in the city, George Silver was persuaded to become an actor in his fifties by the producers of "Gumshoe", who felt that his bald head and rotund appearance made him physically just right for the small but important role of Mr. De Fries, the mysterious South African. He did several other small roles in films and TV subsequently.
