Ten years ago today, TMZ published an audio recording of former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling saying racist things surreptitiously captured by his mistress, V. Stiviano. The recording led to his downfall, and changed the NBA forever.
If you’re not a basketball fan, you might not remember the story. But FX’s limited series “Clipped,” which just got its first trailer today, makes a case for the Donald Sterling saga as a “People v. O.J. Simpson”-style story about race, class, power, and that unique corner of America known as Los Angeles.
Per FX, “Clipped” “charts the collision between a dysfunctional basketball organization and even less functional marriage, and the precipitating tape’s impact on an ensemble of characters striving to win against the backdrop of the most cursed team in the league.”
“Clipped” stars Ed O’Neill as Sterling, a man who made his fortune building an L.

HBO had the Lakers, now FX has the Clippers. Will the series’ fates differ (as the real-life teams’ have), or will “Clipped” face the same quick, quiet end as “Winning Time”? We’ll find out this June, when FX’s latest ripped-from-the-headlines adaptation premieres exclusively on Hulu. The trailer was released Thursday, April 25 — just under six weeks prior to the premiere — and now you can watch the first footage below.
Set in 2013, the six-episode limited series stars Ed O’Neill as L.A. Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling and Laurence Fishburne as the team’s head coach, Doc Rivers. Formerly with the Boston Celtics (who won an NBA title in 2008), Rivers had just joined the Clippers when the owner’s racist comments went public, sending the organization into a tailspin and Sterling into a power struggle with Rivers, players, and the NBA at large. Warning: This podcast contains spoilers about the ending of Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes
“In 2015, we thought she was done.”
That’s what filmmaker Francis Lawrence thought about the finale of the $3 billion-plus grossing The Hunger Games franchise with Mockingjay Part 2, that is until author Suzanne Collins gave him and series pic producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson a heads up in late 2019 that a prequel manuscript set 64 years before the original film, and focusing in on the origin story of main baddie Coriolanus Snow, was coming their way.
Director Francis Lawrence in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
But rather than just more bows and arrows and fierce arena battles, there was a whole other sublime element to the prequel and that was in its country music underpinnings, taking inspiration from the early turn-of-the-century Bluegrass and folksy sounds that draw their lineage from Scotland,...

Rachel Zegler stars in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and recently recalled an encounter she had with Og star Jennifer Lawrence.
While making an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Zegler opened up about meeting Lawrence during the Christian Dior runway show at Paris Fashion Week.
“I didn’t want to be weird. I was just kind of psyching myself up to talk to her. She was so unbelievably kind,” Zegler said of being the only cast member of the prequel film to have met Lawrence.
From that encounter, a photo of Zegler and Lawrence went viral and the West Side Story alum explained what was really going on in the image.
“In that clip, [Jennifer is] actually saying, ‘Let’s do another photo where I’m strangling you and saying you’ll never take my part!’ And that’s exactly what I wanted from her,” Zegler explained.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes might be dressed up like a prequel in its early roots story of villain-to-be Coriolanus Snow, and some might think that Rachel Zegler’s Lucy Gray Baird is just an early days Katniss from District 12.
However, those hasty generalizations would rob the film of its sublime uniqueness, for at its core this sci-fi political action thriller has the underpinnings of a sublime romantic country western musical, and when you finally see it, you’ll get what we mean.
Setting this Hunger Games by filmmaker Francis Lawrence apart from his last three with Jennifer Lawrence are the raw and rugged, rural Scottish and Irish influenced ballads sung by Rachel Zegler’s Lucy, who is a member of the Covey, a traveling musician group.

All Rise alumna Lindsay Mendez is set as a series regular alongside Josh Andrés Rivera and Patrick Schwarzenegger in Ryan Murphy’s FX anthology American Sports Story, Deadline has learned.
Like with the other leads, her casting was done in early 2023, before the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, we hear.
American Sports Story, a new extension of Murphy’s “American Story” franchise, is a scripted anthological limited series focusing on a prominent event involving a sports figure and re-examines it through the prism of today’s world, telling that story from multiple perspectives.
The first installment, written by Stu Zicherman, is based on the podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc from the Boston Globe and Wondery. It charts the rise and fall of NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez, played by Rivera, and explores the connections of the disparate strands of his identity, his family, his career, his suicide, and their legacy in sports and American culture.

Based on Suzanne Collins’ prequel novel of the same name, the upcoming film follows a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), who strives to revive his family’s legacy. In the midst of his efforts, he is tasked with mentoring District 12’s tribute and Panem’s favorite, Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler). Coriolanus works with Lucy to keep her alive in the Hunger Games, and he begins to battle between good and evil.
Following the CinemaCon release of the first official trailer, fans now have a peek into the ancestry of characters from the original series including Jason Schwartzman as Lucretious Flickerman, a descendent of Stanley Tucci’s Caesar Flickerman. Remember Patrick Bateman? He's back, in comic book form. A new four-issue "American Psycho" comic series will bring the infamous serial killer back, featuring a duel narrative focused on both Bateman and a new character. But perhaps the most interesting detail of all is that publisher Sumerian was permitted to use Christian Bale's likeness to draw Patrick Bateman. It's about as close as we'll get to seeing Bale play the character again — although it won't be the first sequel to the story. Back in 2002, audiences were blessed and/or cursed with "American Psycho 2," featuring Mila Kunis as a college student who goes on a killing spree. It wasn't very good, and we can only hope this comic will be a vast improvement over that film. The comic comes from writer Michael Calero with artwork by Piotr Kowalski and coloring by Brad Simpson.

Sharpen your ax, order new business cards, and crank up some Huey Lewis and the News because the LA-based comic book publisher Sumerian is bringing an American Psycho comic book to shelves. According to Deadline, the four-issue series, publishing later this year, “will have a dual narrative, one showing a different perspective of Bateman’s killing spree (with a notable “twist”) and another revealing a modern-day arc with “surprising connections to the past.” The new arc is a sequel to the 2000 thriller from director Mary Harron.
Sumerian’s American Psycho comic book centers on “an all-new psychopath as social media obsessed millennial, Charlie (Charlene) Carruthers, goes on a downward spiral filled with violence. Drug fueled partying leads to bloodshed as Charlie leaves a trail of bodies on her way to discovering the truth about her dark nature.”

The latest fan favorite horror movie to make the leap into the world of comic books is Mary Harron’s American Psycho, with Deadline announcing the upcoming official comic this week.
Being published by Sumerian, it sounds like the four-issue comic book series will both adapt the 2000 movie starring Christian Bale and also serve as a sequel to that bloody tale.
Deadline details this afternoon that the series will have “a dual narrative, one showing a different perspective of Patrick Bateman’s killing spree (with a notable “twist”), and another revealing a modern day arc with surprising connections to the past.”

Lionsgate’s unveiled the official trailer for The Hunger Games prequel, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, seven months out from its theatrical release. The nearly three-minute trailer opens with Head Gamemaker Volumnia Gaul (Oscar winner Viola Davis) introducing the creator of the Hunger Games, Dean Cesca Highbottom (Peter Dinklage). Highbottom confirms the 10th annual Hunger Games are about to get underway and introduces the tributes chosen to fight to the death.
The trailer shows a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) and the tribute he’ll be mentoring, District 12’s Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler). We’re also treated to our first look at a young Lucky Flickerman (Jason Schwartzman), the first-ever host of the Hunger Games and an ancestor of Caesar Flickerman.
“What happens in there, fueled with the terror of becoming prey, see how quickly we become predator. See how quickly civilation disappears,” says Gaul as the Hunger Games commence.

Lionsgate’s brief CinemaCon presentation (90 minutes of the two hours allotted was used for a screening of “Joy Ride”) was highlighted by the first look at “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songburds and Snakes,” the first trailer for which is now online.
The trailer, which will debut in theaters with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” next week, introduces viewers to the tenth annual Hunger Games competition, telling a story of how the future President Snow (played in the four “Hunger Games” movies by Donald Sutherland) mentored a promising 12th district competitor and, well, if you’ve seen the movies or read the books you can presume it doesn’t end well for the good guys. Snow will be played by Tom Blyth while Rachel Zegler (“West Side Story”) will play Lucy Gray Baird.
