AMC Networks’ plans to submit the zombie spinoff “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” as a limited series for the Emmys have been killed.
The cable network had announced plans to submit the six-episode spinoff, created by Scott M. Gimple, Danai Gurira, and Andrew Lincoln, for outstanding limited or anthology series at the Primetime Emmys. However, Variety has learned exclusively from two sources with direct knowledge that the show is ineligible to submit in the category.
In 2021, the Television Academy defined what constitutes a limited or anthology series, stating that the story must be resolved within its season without any ongoing storylines. This criteria affected past winners, such as the second season of “The White Lotus,” which was required to compete as a drama due to Jennifer Coolidge’s recurring character. According to the Academy’s ruling at the time, “the reappearance in a subsequent ‘season’ of one character...

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has been building up to a reunion of sorts between Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira), and it’s one fans have been waiting more than five years for.
Despite reuniting in the series premiere, they have been continually driven apart by the Crm and Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh).
Thankfully, that all changed on Sunday’s new episode, which found the lovers working through their issues and reconnecting as they embarked on a mission to return to their loved ones.
Monsters and Critics got to talk to Michael Slovis about directing one of the limited series’ most pivotal episodes and what the events mean for the final episodes.
We have just two episodes left.
Check out the interview below.

If there's one thing The Walking Dead universe will always do, it's get the internet talking.
Through the first three hours of the Rick and Michonne show, we spent much time at the Crm and witnessed the reunion between the lovers who'd been apart for many years.
And while they technically reunite during The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Season 1 Episode 1, their official reunion comes a little later.
While fans have been waiting for this series for years, waiting until now, with the original series concluded and various other spinoffs in their infancy, was the right time to bring this series to light.
It's a love story at its core, but like all the other series that came before it, it's also a tale about survival, both emotionally and physically. And that's a timeless story.

[This story contains spoilers from The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live episode four.]
Nobody knows Rick and Michonne better than Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, and to back that up, the powers that be wisely installed the iconic zombie-fighting actors as executive producers on The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. For the fourth installment of the six-part series, Gurira took her duties one step further, by writing and effectively showrunning the episode.
The episode, called “What We,” directed by series veteran Michael Slovis and written/overseen by Gurira, sees a climactic confrontation between Rick and Michonne, whose reunion has not gone exactly as either one of them expected. Rick is fully embedded with the militant Crm, hoping to take control from the inside and build a safer world for his loved ones. Michonne, meanwhile, is fully committed to bringing Rick home from all of the horror, and is shocked that he doesn’t want to come along.

NBC’s sophomore medical drama made a splash at TCA today with a three-year pickup. As the ensemble medical drama headlined by Ryan Eggold is assured to go to five seasons, would NBC try and turn it into a franchise with offshoots, like Chicago?
“There is a potential for a spinoff,” NBC Entertainment Chairman Paul Telegdy said after his executive session at TCA Saturday. “I can imagine a whole world around New Amsterdam.”
According to sources, there are no conversations going on or a concept for a spinoff but everyone is open to the possibility because of the bench depth of characters (and their stories) on the show.
New Amsterdam stars Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman, Jocko Sims, with Tyler Labine and Anupam Kher.
Creator David Schulner and director Peter Horton executive produce with Michael Slovis and David Foster. New Amsterdam is produced by Universal Television, Pico Creek Productions and Mount Moriah.

NBC has handed an early renewal to sophomore medical drama New Amsterdam. In a big vote of confidence, the renewal is for for three years, through the 2022-23 season. The size matches the three-season renewal NBC gave its flagship drama series This Is Us in May though New Amsterdam produces more episodes a season. Its first season consisted of 22 episodes.
So far this season New Amsterdam is averaging a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 9.8 million viewers overall in Live+7, ranking as the No.5 scripted series on NBC behind This Is Us and the Chicago series. The medical drama starring Ryan Eggold is adding 4.6 million viewers between Live+Same Day and Live+7, the third biggest lift on broadcast television and second biggest for an NBC series behind This Is Us.
Digital performance is increasingly important for NBC, especially for series owned by NBCUniversal, which New Amsterdam is; it hails from Universal TV.

“El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” centers around Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman in the wake of his dramatic escape from a neo-Nazi gang (as depicted in the “Breaking Bad” series finale). After breaking free from captivity, Jesse must come to terms with his past in order to forge some kind of future. Not much else is known about the “Breaking Bad” movie’s storyline, although series favorites Skinny Pete (Charles Baker) and Badger (Matt L. Jones) are confirmed to return.

The third season of AMC's Preacher may have taken place primarily at Gran'ma's house in Angelville (aka Hell on Earth to Jesse Custer), but it also once again took viewers around the world on a heady examination of family ties, violent faith, and fiery friendship. Following the season 3 finale, AMC released two behind-the-scenes videos that take a look back at the latest season in the adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's cult comic book series.

It’s no secret that no one stays dead on television anymore. Characters can always be revived, mortality can always be conquered, whether or not the show exists in any recognizable reality. What some of TV’s best shows have done is look at the consequences of that changing dynamic, the logistics of how to get viewers invested in the fates of people who may just live forever.
In its first two seasons, AMC’s graphic novel adaptation “Preacher” concerned itself with maybe the only thing bigger than death: the existence of God itself. Sometimes that’s manifested itself in the form of the series’ main character Jesse (Dominic Cooper) struggling to deal with an unstoppable power he’s been given. When the show hopped venues to New Orleans for Season 2, the essential trio of Jesse, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) searched for The Almighty inside jazz clubs and seedy off-highway motels.

Season 2 of “Preacher” has been built around the idea of the nightmare past: Eugene and his infamous cellmate across the hall have each been given a bit of backstory to help fill in the gaps between the broken people we see on screen and the life they enjoyed somewhere in their respective histories.
This week, it was Jesse and Tulip’s turn. After rekindling their affection for each other in the show’s casino detour, the doomed supercouple of “Preacher” has spent the past few episodes cruising right past each other. The opening shot of “Dallas” shows Jesse literally disoriented by Tulip’s revelation that Viktor, the owner of the house where she was being held against her wishes, is still technically her husband.

Eugene might be the one trapped in an eternal prison, reliving the worst day of his life in a cell within shouting distance from history’s most infamous dictator, but this week’s “Preacher” suggested that he might not the only one in his own personal Hell.
The pursuit that seemed so noble in the early going of Season 2 has soured somewhat, both on Jesse’s part and in the overall placement of the show. No longer seeking out God in one of the 138 New Orleans area jazz clubs, Jesse and Cassidy stumble on a familiar face when watching late-night TV.
Meanwhile, Tulip faces the horde of henchmen sent to capture her at the close of last week’s episode. Wandering around a mansion filled with minions and spitting children, everyone seems all too eager to ignore her, as if she were someone sentenced to share a bunk next-door to Eugene.

There are a lot of things you can say that Preacher has done that not a lot of other shows can claim. It's shot off more penises than any other show on basic cable. It's a show with a vampire that isn't a show specifically about vampires. It's killed more people in three episodes this season than every Godfather movie combined. However, one of the weirdest things you can say about Preacher is that it's made Hitler into a likable character. Yes, Eugene, that Hitler.
In the world of Preacher, Hell is an interesting place. It's essentially a combination of solitary confinement in a modern-day prison mixed with a little bit of the paranormal waiting room in Beetlejuice.
Once again, Preacher finds a way to make violence entirely too much fun in the latest bold episode...

Well, at least no one died this week. In the present, anyway.
After the Saint of Killers-inspired bloodbaths of the opening of Season 2, “Preacher” set its gaze on New Orleans, the ultimate destination teased at the outset. The camaraderie that made those first few installments so freeing and energizing fell by the wayside in “Damsels,” but what took its place was a mystery that dug deeper into the philosophical and delivered another prime action set-piece as a chaser.
Before we resumed with Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy in the Big Easy, it was high time the show finally addressed the Hellephant in the room and gave us some Eugene-related answers. Seeing the unfortunate teenager lively and spry and free of any physical or emotional scars was even more jarring than the Jesse and Tulip flashback at the close of Season 1.
“Preacher” is no stranger to irony, but the triumphant...

Preacher wastes no time in its latest season two episode. Here's our spoiler-filled review...
This review contains spoilers.

2.3 Damsels
Of the characters on Preacher, there's only one that's essentially a truly good person. Cassidy is selfish, Jesse is violent and temperamental, Tulip is involved in some serious criminal activities... the only character that's a good guy, pitiable in his way, is Eugene. He's so positive and so upbeat, he always seems to be trying to make others feel better—whether we're talking about his father or Jesse—and every little bit of his background that we see only makes him all the more pitiable. In TV tropes terms, he's a woobie. Every nice thing he tries to do only ends up getting him hurt, and it all goes back to his very origin.

Is it a step forward for The Walking Dead when the creative crew don't stretch out a cliffhanger and opt for a simple resolution? When Sasha ran firing into the Saviors compound, I had assumed that it would be a week or longer before we found out what happened to her. Fortunately, that's not the case. Last episode, Sasha ran off; this episode, Sasha wakes up in one of the Savior compound's many windowless closets. Thankfully, it's not as...

Let's begin with the ending, both of this latest The Walking Dead and the one before it. As it turns out, that Daryl-shaped figure who showed up in the closing seconds of last week's installment was in fact the show's other scraggly-haired, crossbow-wielding badass: Dwight. And in the final minutes of this week's episode – "Something They Need" – Rosita reveals that Negan's reluctant lieutenant saved her from the shootout at the Sanctuary at some point after the closing credits. He then apparently volunteered to be imprisoned in Alexandria, just to prove...

Preacher continues to have a way with violent surprises as it delves deeper into the Saint of Killers storyline...
This review contains spoilers.
1.9 Finish The Song
The Saint of Killers hasn't been featured very much in the first season of Preacher. He's been hinted at, he's been briefly featured in little segments, and we've seen the incident that pushes him down the path towards becoming a supernatural monster. Now, he's finally being moved from his particular slice of the cruel world to the main storyline, courtesy of two of the least-likely characters in the Preacher rogue's gallery.
This is a show that thrives on surprise, and this week's episode had two of the biggest shock moments of the entire first season. One of these involves the very same Saint, or the Cowboy, or whatever they end up calling him. We open with his vengeance; he killed 77 men at the Battle of Gettysburg,...
