Judd Ehrlich’s “The Price of Freedom” is an absorbing, disturbing, and scrupulously well-researched documentary that lays out the nuts and bolts of the National Rifle Association’s history. The film covers all that stuff, and does it well. That said, we’ve heard most of it before, in the ongoing journalistic coverage of the gun debate (which is really a gun culture war), and in documentaries like “Making a Killing: Guns,...

From folk hero frontiersman Davy Crockett to vigilante cop Dirty Harry, guns seem to be too deeply woven into the American identity for any amount of bloodshed to stain.
The slaying of 20 first graders and six staff members at a Connecticut elementary school Friday shocked a nation that has become accustomed to mass shootings, and sparked renewed calls for gun control.
But even though the powerful National Rifle Association lobby took the unusual step of saying Tuesday it was "prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again," experts said any change will be marginal at best.
"The prospect for real political and policy change is slim or unlikely," said Robert Spitzer, author of "The Politics of Gun Control" and a professor at State University of New York at Cortland.

The Out Power 50 has been named, and it's as confusing as any other year. Topping the list is Apple CEO Tim Cook, who isn't formally out, and other non-out folks like Anderson Cooper and Matt Drudge rank high. But what may get them in the most trouble is that there's no sign of Adam Lambert.
Grant Morrison, writer for Action Comics, says that Batman "is very, very gay. There’s just no denying it. Obviously as a fictional character he’s intended to be heterosexual, but the basis of the whole concept is utterly gay.”
Fringe has been given a final 13 episode order for next season, allowing it to get close to that magical 100 episodes that makes it valuable in syndication. I loved the first season, but quickly lost interest after that.

In a Hollywood explosion seldom seen, Joe Eszterhas, the screenwriter for The Maccabees, the Jewish historical film Mel Gibson is making, published a nine-page letter accusing Gibson of being anti-Semitic and just doing the film to fix his reputation. Mel Gibson published a response saying Eszterhas was unprofessional and delivering a late, substandard script (that Warner Bros rejected).
Brian Moylan is stirring the pot again with an etiquette guide for straight people at gay bars. I have to admit though, I tend to agree with him. Back in my party days nothing could clear a dance floor full of shirtless circuit boys faster than some of this stuff, plus mixed drinks on the dance floor? Who does that?
Macy Gray is out with a new album and talking about her support for the Glbt community as well. The money line is "It’s a very powerful community in music. And,...
