Jerzy Stefan Stawinski was born on July 1, 1921 in Zakret, Mazowieckie, Poland. He was a writer and director, known for Eroica (1958), Zamach (1959) and Pingwin (1965). He was married to Helena Amiradzibi-Stawinska. He died on June 12, 2010 in Warsaw, Mazowieckie, Poland.
Joined the Polish partisans in 1940 and participated in the Warsaw ghetto uprising of 1944.
Leading Polish writer and director, literary head of the Kamera production unit in the mid-1950's. He was best known for the film "Kanal" which was based on his experience, evacuating from Warsaw by underground sewers during the war.
