Who wouldn't want to spend Christmas at the Chalet?
Teri Hatcher was lovely to experience in a film like this, and frankly, it's so refreshing to have films exploring women in their 50s versus the usual fare of 20s-30s.
Much like A Christmas Spark, following along with a "middle-aged" love story was most enjoyable.
It's also a sign that in all the ways the network has been diversifying its content, it's especially making some tailor-made projects that cater to the exact age demographic that likely tunes in for Lifetime and its Christmas slate most.
As a fan favorite, Teri Hatcher is a great person to helm a film like this.
She has that quirky leading woman quality that makes you always root for her, something she exuded well during her Desperate Housewives days.
In many ways, Christmas at the Chalet could've taken things further and in a different direction...

Snoop Dogg is, for lack of a better term, a pretty bizarre figure in pop culture, one whose longevity and chameleon-like skills are something of an anomaly in hip-hop. Rappers turned actors like LL Cool J and Ice-t have been able to effectively sand down the more bellicose elements of their personas for mass consumption, but the former never made as hard of a family-friendly pivot as Snoop, and you’re unlikely to find Ice-t chillin’ with Justin Bieber.
Born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., Snoop Dogg—formerly Snoop Doggy Dogg, and, for a brief moment when he was exploring Rastafarianism, Snoop Lion—is a man for every season, or, more accurately, an entertainer for any occasion. Between all of his acting credits, Twitch livestreams, and cooking-show antics with Bff Martha Stewart, one could easily forget that he’s a music artist who’s dabbled in just about every genre, from gangsta rap to gospel.

Bowen Yang played U.S. Representative George Santos, who found himself at the center of an investigation into his campaign donation spending, during the “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update.
Santos was found by a House Ethics Committee report to have spent tens of thousands of campaign dollars on designer clothes and shoes, Botox, OnlyFans, personal trips and casino roulette tables. More than $40,000 from his campaign’s bank account was found to have not been reported to the Federal Election Commision and used for personal expenses.
As Santos, Yang joined Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost to discuss the illegal spending. “George, this is serious. They’re calling for your expulsion,” Jost said. “Well then, girl, ‘expul’ me!” Yang’s Santos replied.
“Isn’t Congress kind of like OnlyFans anyway? People paying you to do nasty things on a sad, bad livestream?” he said, attempting to defend himself.

Each November, Brunello Cucinelli and his wife, Federica, open the doors of their lovingly and immaculately restored villa in the medieval town of Solomeo, outside Perugia in central Italy, for a true American event — Thanksgiving.
“We organize a dinner for at least 30, 40 people, and whoever has a property nearby is invited,” Cucinelli says over Zoom in late September while seated inside company headquarters, a 14th-century castle in the same area. The holiday menu features a turkey prepared by Federica, with an extra one that’s roasted “four or five days in advance of the big day” as a test run. “Ryan Seacrest comes with his own olive oil, his own wine,” continues Cucinelli. “I really like this relationship that we have forged with people from L.A. and even Silicon Valley. It’s been a very spontaneous kind of relationship.”

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are donating to yet another cause.
The couple donated $1 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross (Icrc) on Friday “to help children in Israel and Gaza,” a source close to the pair told The Hollywood Reporter. They have four children and are adamant about sending financial aid to causes that are important to them.
In the past, Lively and Reynolds matched up to $1 million in donations that were sent to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees after Russia invaded Ukraine, as well as $500,000 to Indigenous-focused safe water charity Water First Education & Training Inc. They also donated another $1 million split between Feeding America and Food Banks Canada, following the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
More recently, they donated $1 million to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s financial assistance program for performers facing economic hardship as the actors strike continues.

Martha Stewart is 81 and ready for fun. The lifestyle guru - who, over the years, has had her own television shows, magazine, and houseware line, among other things - celebrated turning 81 on Aug. 3 in a way likely all too familiar to other birthday revelers.
Posting an up-close "birthday selfie" on Instagram, Stewart wrote she'd taken the image before a "big bday dinner" but after "a delicious lunch and just a bit too much martha's chard." In the image, Stewart has on a fresh face of makeup as she purses her lips and is wearing a khaki-colored button-down. The post inspired a lot of celebratory well-wishes from stars like "Betty" rapper Yung Gravy, who wrote, "Happy birthday bae."
Martha's Chard is, of course, her wine from label 19 Crimes, a brand that's also partnered with Stewart's close pal Snoop Dogg.

Despite the increase in pop-culture amnesia, there are actually a lot of great rom-coms that predate the Reagan era
For many pop-culture websites, which we will not name here, the history of cinema apparently begins somewhere around the release of “Star Wars” (1977), with almost everything that preceded it to the big screen being sloughed off as quaint, forgettable and irrelevant.
It’s the sort of thing that people who love movies and movie history can often ignore with the roll of an eye, but when one site recently trumpeted its list of the 50 Best Rom-Coms of All Time — which featured exactly one movie made before 1980 and zero prior to 1970 — we could sit by no longer.
Here is an alphabetical list of 50 classic romantic comedies that merely scratches the surface of great movies made during ye olden times of 1979 and earlier:

Before Netflix had grown into a world-conquering streaming giant, “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry” director R.J. Cutler would routinely bump into the company’s co-ceo Ted Sarandos on the film festival circuit. Netflix was still a DVD-by-mail rental service at the time, and Sarandos confided to him that “The War Room” – Cutler’s Oscar-nominated Bill Clinton campaign doc – was among its most popular rentals.
Flash forward a few years, and the streaming-fueled boom in documentary filmmaking didn’t seem so far-fetched to Cutler. “It made complete sense to me that when Netflix transformed to a streaming service, and then began producing original content, the audience’s passion for nonfiction would continue to form a key element of the streamer’s success,” he said. “If it works on Netflix, that meant it would work on Amazon, Hulu, Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, HBO Max, Discovery Plus, Peacock and others.

Katie Couric’s upcoming memoir has made waves for shocking excerpts that have ruffled feathers in TV news circles.
Now, in her first interview about the new book, Couric gives more detail on some of the headline-making pieces — most notably, her former “Today” show co-anchor, Matt Lauer — saying that her words have been “cherry-picked and twisted” by leaked excerpts.
Couric no longer speaks to Lauer, she reveals in a new cover story with People magazine, released on Wednesday. She says she was “shocked” by the allegations, calling Lauer’s behavior “callous” and “grossly inappropriate.”
That’s not the Matt I knew,” Couric tells the magazine. “There’s a duality in human beings, and sometimes they don’t let you see both sides.”
Couric’s book says that after learning about Lauer’s behavior, she came to realize that he was a professional partner and friend to her, but a predator to others.

Michael Keaton is taking on a more formidable foe than the Joker in the 1989 film “Batman.”
Hulu’s “Dopesick” is an eight-episode limited series that depicts the rise and fall of the opioid epidemic, which has raved millions of Americans since a group of powerful painkillers became widely prescribed starting in the 1990s. The series from 20th Television and the Littlefield Co., is headlined by Keaton, who said he believes the series will enlighten viewers on the deadly epidemic.
“I think people are hipper and smarter about it now, but I think they’re gonna get even wiser,” Keaton told Variety on Monday at the “Dopesick” red carpet premiere held at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. “I definitely think it will enlighten some folks.”
Keaton plays Samuel Finnix, an old-school doctor from a small mining town in Virginia who begins prescribing his patients OxyContin to relieve pain.

There are certain Samhain-centric programs that cover the entertainment industry like a warm knit blanket on a fall afternoon. The annual Punkin Chunkin competition celebrates "Why not?" ingenuity and winter squash destruction with DIY catapults, cannons, and trebuchets with names like Universal Soldier and Hormone Blaster, hurling pumpkins hundreds of feet across fields. The oft-anticipated "Treehouse of Horror" episodes in "The Simpsons" always entertain horror heads, while Shudder's "Ghoul Log" is a moody must in the background while we plan our costumes and watchlists. Because networks are slowly realizing that our traumatized populace considers baking shows to be self-care, more lighthearted...

Simone Swink has been named executive producer of Good Morning America.
Swink, who has been with the show since 2010, is filling the top job following the departure in April of Michael Corn.
Corn, who is now president of Nexstar’s NewsNation, was accused last week of sexual assault in a lawsuit filed by Kirstyn Crawford, a producer on the show. She also claimed that a former ABC News staffer also accused Corn of sexual assault. Corn denied the claims.
Swink had been senior broadcast producer of the show, where she has been overseeing the GMA second hour. She originally joined the show as a writer.
“Simone is a dynamic, thoughtful and creative leader, experienced in collaborating across platforms,” ABC News president Kim Godwin wrote in a note to the staff. “I’m confident that she and the GMA team will continue to lead the show in new and innovative directions.

ABC News will turn to an insider to lead its flagship morning program, “Good Morning America,” one of the most critical roles in live television.
Simone Swink, a longtime senior staffer at the show, has been named its senior producer, according to a memo sent to employees by Kim Godwin, president of ABC News Sunday.
Swink takes a role which has been left vacant for months. The show, a pillar of the economics of both ABC and its parent company, Walt Disney, was previously supervised by Michael Corn, who left abruptly in April, and was recently accused of sexual harassment in a lawsuit filed last week. Corn has denied the allegations. ABC News has been sifting through candidates for the top job at “GMA” for weeks, and had considered a number of prominent executives from outside the company, according to people familiar with the process.

A documentary is in the works on the life of Martha Stewart, with Netflix having won the rights to the film after it had been shopped to buyers, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
R.J. Cutler, the director most recently behind “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry” and “Belushi” as well as the film “The September Issue,” is directing the film and will also produce.
As of now. the film is untitled and is only described as being about “the life and times of Martha Stewart.” But the film is likely to tell Stewart’s story beginning as a babysitter for the children of New York Yankees baseball greats Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra up through her early modeling career and into her run as one of the most recognizable culinary personalities, TV hosts and entrepreneurs of the day. Netflix has emerged the winner of a bake-off for a documentary about the life and times of media mogul Martha Stewart.
Oscar-nominated director R.J. Cutler had been shopping a sizzle reel of the all-access look at the history of America’s preeminent hostess in recent weeks. Netflix closed the deal late last week, according to insiders.
While specifics are still unknown, the film will foreseeably follow Stewart’s early life in Jersey City as a babysitter to famed New York Yankees players Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra (legend has it some of her first ever party-planning gigs were for their kids), to teen model and eventual media titan. The massive growth of her Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia empire and 2004 prison stint for insider trading will also presumably be on the table.

With the NewFronts right around the corner, the Meredith Corporation -- which owns top publishing brands including People, Time, and Sports Illustrated -- is doubling down on Igtv.
The Instagram-based video destination for longer shows, which was framed by the industry as a YouTube competitor upon its launch last June with shows alongside LaurDIY and King Bach, has thus far failed to live up to that hype in terms of a cultural breakthrough, and an advertising model has yet to be implemented. Nevertheless, Meredith says that it has seen substantial traction on its Igtv efforts to date. And in an interview with Tubefilter ahead of the NewFronts next week (below), Meredith’s Svp of sales, Marla Newman, said that the company will build on last year’s Igtv slate with even more shows in 2019.
Meredith has released 14 Igtv shows to date, per Digiday, which have received more than 20 million collective views.

Earlier today, a commenter wrote to Alt Film Guide, claiming that the Martha Stewart featured in Doll Face, I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now,...
