It’s the fifth lawsuit against Diddy since his ex Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura filed a suit last November accusing him of several misdeeds including sexual assault, physical abuse, and sex trafficking. The ensuing lawsuits, alleging a pattern of criminal wrongdoing concealed by his power and resources, have marred Combs’ reputation.

Olympic competition has long been fertile ground for filmmakers across the world. Both documentary and feature film directors have centred their visions around the world’s largest sporting event, focusing their storytelling eye on the whirlwind of human sporting excellence. The inherent drama of the Olympic events draws enormous crowds and competitors from the four corners of the world, to share the spectacle of human excellence under the most breathtaking conditions.
While some filmmakers strive to capture the essence of the games, such as Kon Ichikawa’s triumphant three hour celebration of the 1964 games in Tokyo Olympiad, others seek to use the event as backdrop for the more human stories. Recent films such as Dexter Fletcher’s Eddie the Eagle, Craig Gillespie’s I,Tonya, Bennett Miller’s bleak and weighty Foxcatcher and even Steven Spielberg, whose 2005 film Munich stands alongside Kevin Macdonald’s gripping One Day in September, chronicled...

"Honestly, this whole thing comes as a complete shock to me." What did they do at summer camp?! Rlje Films has released the official trailer for a thriller called Always and Forever, the latest film from the director of You Got Served - Chris Stokes. This looks a bit like I Know What You Did Last Summer, but more of a suspenseful thriller than horror. After a tragedy reunites Nicole with her childhood friends, they each find themselves in danger, targets of a deranged stalker. Nicole knows this can't be a coincidence. The secrets of their past are coming back to haunt them. Starring Cynthia Addai-Robbinson as Nicole, with Robbie Jones, Lauren London, Wood Harris, Loretta Devine, Rocsi Diaz, Erica Tazel, Vanessa Curry, and Deborah Ayorinde. Not so sure this looks any good. If these kind of melodramatic "we all did something we wish we could take back" suspense films are you jam,...

Set in an old saloon, the unscripted-yet-conceptual series will see the aforementioned stars playing characters -- Stokes as a detective, Milas as bartender, and Kempner as a down-on-her-luck lounge singer -- while discussing real-life cases.
Each episode will feature a special guest and unearth a different murder mystery -- including the curious case of Laetitia Toureaux, who was killed in an empty carriage on the Paris metro in 1937, and Keith Reinhard, who vanished in the Rocky Mountains in the late eighties. Three episodes are live today. This...

The Dominican Republic is poised to take a bold leap into the future thanks to Brooklyn-born tech and real estate titan Louis Arriola, chairman and founder of Nyla Media, whose ambitious multi-million-dollar plans include the vertical integration of a 5G broadband network, a studio facility, tech training and game development, film & TV production and a data center in the Caribbean country.
Arriola has already broken ground on an 80-acre site in Punta Cana, best known for its luxury beach resorts, where the new state-of-the-art Pro Capital Film Studios facility will rise. These will include three-to-four sound stages, and a “smart stage” equipped with a green screen and other VFX technology.
Together with his joint venture partner Cht Holdings Dominicana, Arriola has begun the construction of a data center and the installation of a 5G fiber cable network. “I want to bring digital literacy to the Dominican Republic where 80% of the...

If you didn’t already know that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, then Til Death Do Us Part will serve as a potent reminder that with support and determination, abusive relationships don’t need to be endured, they can be terminated. Billed as a psychological thriller, the film actually plays more like a tense melodrama, a hybrid formula likely to draw a more diverse audience to theaters and assure continued interest in home entertainment formats.
Writer-director Christopher B. Stokes took on Til Death Do Us Part specifically to highlight the courage and determination of domestic violence survivors, a noble aspiration that...

★★☆☆☆ Like many a low-budget American indie horror, director Chris Stokes' The Helpers (2012) has followed a fairly conventional distribution trajectory. It managed a limited release in its home market of the Us, gained a coveted spot at Film4's FrightFest last November, and now makes a quiet straight-to-dvd appearance here, jostling for attention in a relentlessly over-saturated genre. The plot, as you might well guess, follows a rather familiar trajectory too. A car, loaded to the brim with drunk and horny twentysomethings on their way to Las Vegas, breaks down in the middle of the Nevada desert, miles away from civilisation.

It’s Monday, so we all know what that means! Yes, it’s time for another rundown of DVDs and Blu-ray’s hitting stores online and offline this week. It’s a very light week this week, so let us breakdown the new releases and highlight what you should – and shouldn’t – be buying from today, January 21st 2013.
Pick Of The Week
American Mary (DVD/Blu-ray)
One of the year’s most horrific highlights, American Mary tells the story of broke student Mary Mason (Katharine Isabelle) who grows disenchanted with medical school and the doctors she once idolised. The allure of easy money sends a desperate Mary through the gruesome world of underground surgeries but soon finds they leave more marks on her than the so-called freakish clientele… Smart, sexy, funny and utterly gorgeous to look at, American Mary features a standout lead performance from horror icon Katherine (Ginger Snaps) Isabelle,...

The Helpers
Stars: Kristen Quintrall, Denyce Lawton, Christopher Jones, JoJo Wright, Rachel Sterling, Black Thomas, Dustin Harnish, Cameron Diskin, Braxton Davis | Directed by Chris Stokes
Music producer-turned-film director Chris Stokes (You Got Served) turns his hands to horror with The Helpers. And whilst his early work featured a number of rappers and singers he has produced and worked with, this is his first movie Not to follow that format. This time round Stokes takes a bunch of relative unknowns (the majority of whom are credited with small roles in TV fare) and casts them in a movie that blends traditional filmmaking with that most risible of genres – the found-footage film.
The Helpers follows a group of seven friends who are headed on a road trip to Las Vegas, but along the way they get a flat tyre. Leaving the women behind, the men then go off in pursuit of help...

At the start of Chris Stokes “Battlefield America,” we see young, bold, and tough kids dancing at an underground dance battle. Think “You Got Serve” meets Disney’s “Ant farm”. I’ve never seen such talented young dancers dance. The opening scene gives way to a lot of great energy, but it resembles more of a music video, than that of an opening scene to a film. The film’s story begins as we enter the daily life of the young and self centered Sean Lewis (Marques Houston). Shawn is a pompous prick of a man. He’s a hard working man, only if it benefits him. He’s just made partner at a prestigious La Marketing firm. One...

When I think of Marques Houston, I immediately think of my younger sister’s childhood obsession with the late 1990’s boy group Immature. My sister had posters, she went to their concerts, and was especially obsessed with Marques. Fast forward to today, and my sister's childhood crush has grown up and can be seen as the leading man in Chris Stokes’s feature film, “Battleground America.” Shadow and Act caught up with Marques last week to learn more about this project and his views on the films theme of mentorship. S&A: What can our readers expect when they see “Battleground America”? Marques Houston: One thing you...

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that the helpers of “The Helpers” aren’t actually helpful. I could be wrong, of course, but I’m willing to risk it. The more important point is that “The Helpers” is, from what I can tell, a Found Footage slasher movie directed by Chris Stokes, the genius who gave us “You Got Served” and the sure-to-be American classic, “Battlefield America”, which is “You Got Served” with tykes. Leave it to the mastermind behind “You Got Served” to take advantage of the cheapo Found Footage genre and put his own spin on it. And of course by “spin” I mean . If the killers don’t start “battling” with funky dance moves, I’m gonna be real disappointed. Seven friends on a road trip to Las Vegas break down near a rest-stop motel, where they encounter a seemingly helpful group of people.

Chris Stokes (aka mega-successful entrepreneur Christopher B. Stokes, according to his IMDb.com profile), is my hero. The man was ahead of his time, and in 2004 gave us the awesome “You Got Served”, a film that is so rewatchable, I’ve seen it at least 20 times, and each time I watch it, it’s more ridiculous than the last time I saw it, and I though it was pretty damn ridiculous all those other times, too. Honestly, folks, if you’ve never seen “You Got Served”, you have not lived. I have never come across such an absurd piece of cinema in my entire life, and I’ve seen a lot of really, really bad movies. But to stumble across a movie that is so cluelessly absurd like Stokes’ “You Got Served”? Bingo! Stokes’ latest is “Battlefield America”, a film that finally dares to answer the age-old question, “What if...

Chris Stokes' ('You Got Served') new torture horror flick 'The Helpers' certainly appears to be quite the mixing pot of horror films and themes past and present. The film stars the gorgeous Kristen Quintrall (below) along with Denyce Lawton, Christopher Jones, JoJo Wright, Rachel Sterling, Black Thomas, Dustin Harnish, Cameron Diskin and Braxton Davis. Is the world ready for a torture porn movie from the director of You Got Served? No, it’s not called You Got Sawed. The title is The Helpers. Sadly, it’s not about African-American maids in Mississippi in the 1960’s getting revenge against their racist white employers by going all Jigsaw on them.
Kristen Quintrall (Wolvezbayne), Denyce Lawton (“House of Payne”), Christopher Jones (You Got Served, JoJo Wright (Bring it On: All or Nothing, and former “The Man Show” juggy dancer Rachel Sterling star in Chris Stokes' (You Got Served, House Party 4) upcoming The Helpers.
Here’s a plot synopsis that by the third paragraph goes from merely summarizing the story to spoiling major plot twists. Read at your own peril.

Whew, where to start. It’s a tough category to gauge with the wide range of junk on all fronts of cinema in general, but this is a subject I have had running through out my mind, since day one of writing for this site. Scrolling down the categories of which to label and stipulate what the written piece of information would fall under, I saw a tag of Worst Black Film. This stamp was burned into my mind for so long and started to run the rolodex of junk I had seen, and also some I needed to still witness, because let’s face it, Tyler Perry is still popping shit out, two a year.
But this is also a tough criteria to tackle as I tend to like crap and junk in general. The campy, sappy and overblown, overacted ridiculousness that flickers at us can be overall fun.

Here’s another one of those projects that’s long been in development, appears to be complete, but has seemingly disappeared; never released; nowhere to be found.
This one is called Boogie Town, and it’s written and directed by the same dude who wrote and directed You Got Served (remember that? – the $8 million 2004 film that starred Marques Houston, Meagan Good, Steve Harvey and others, that went on to gross over $40 million domestically. Not bad right?). The filmmaker’s name is Chris Stokes by the way.
And much like You Got Served, Boogie Town also centers around rival hip-hop dance crews, and it also stars Marques Houston (Houston is to Stokes what Denzel Washington used to be to Spike Lee; this is the 4th time they’ve teamed up as actor and director since 2001).
The synopsis for Boogie Town (budgeted at a reported $1.3 million) reads: “… a modern day West side Story...
