Most of Jim's pranks on Dwight affect only Dwight. But the one he pulled on "The Office" Thursday (Oct. 13), while excellent in its planning and execution, also caused some collateral damage.
Andy was likely in a no-win situation, inviting his parents to his own Connecticut-casual garden party a week after they threw one for his favored, name-stealing younger brother Walter Bernard Jr. But the ridiculous guidelines in Jim's fake handbook, which Dwight of course followed to the letter, made a bad situation worse for the Nard-Dog.
As with a couple of the other episodes that have aired this season, "Garden Party" could have, with a few alterations, easily been a Michael Scott story. But because Ed Helms is very good at playing poignancy, it worked pretty well anyway.
Josh Groban didn't get a whole lot to do as Andy's younger brother, aside from the obligatory singing scene. But he was...

Celebrities will arrive via a musical portal in the lobby of the J.W. Marriott hotel in Los Angeles, production designer Scott Storey tells us.

Vma pre-show production designer Scott Storey didn't want to repeat his past triumphs when putting together his vision for the 2011 Vma pre-show, so he threw out the playbook entirely.
Rather than serve up the same-old same-old "step and repeat" entrance, where stars walk down a red carpet and pose for photographers in front of a wall with a logo and sponsor names, he came up with a series of giant undulating, rib-cage-like towers that would do something you'd never seen before. "I wanted something that would 'hug' the talent, to feel as if they are going, again, through a tunnel.

Take a look at the nitty-gritty details of transforming a hotel lobby into an intergalactic fantasia.

Los Angeles — It takes an army to build the massive set for the 2011 VMAs. And over the course of the last week, that tireless militia has been working around the clock to transform the lobby of the J.W. Marriott hotel in downtown Los Angeles into the intergalactic fantasia that will greet stars on Sunday night.
The production has taken over just about every corner of the lobby, with lighting designers hanging a series of shimmering white curtains laced with more than 300 twinkly lights over a space that was previously a couch-filled lounging area. They've also laid down more than 12,000 square feet of black carpet throughout the lobby, covering the nearly 18,000 square feet of real estate the hotel has ceded to the production.
