Wonder Woman opened to stellar reviews this weekend and will no doubt be a huge financial hit. In honor of the Princess of the Amazons being the one to break the Dceu losing streak, Cinelinx looks back at the history of live-action superhero TV shows and movies with female leading characters.
Wonder Woman (1974)- Appropriately, Wonder Woman was the first-ever female super hero to get a live-action adaptation. This 1974 made-for-tv movie was a pilot for an intended series. It starred former professional tennis player Cathy Lee Crosby. The blonde-haired Crosby doesn’t seem like the natural choice to play the Amazon Princess, but then again, this version of Wonder Woman was not a typical adaptation. For one thing, she had no super powers. This was based on the 1968-1972 era of the Wonder Woman comic known as “Diana Prince: The New Wonder Woman” when she lost her powers and stopped wearing her trademark costume.

In 1976, Sid and Marty Krofft ("H.R. Pufnstuf") created Electra Woman and Dyna Girl for their series The Krofft Supershow. There were sixteen 12-minute segments, that featured Deidre Hall ("Days of Our Lives") as Electra Woman (played by ) and Judy Strangis ("Room 222") as her sidekick Dyna Girl. For whatever reason, Warner Bros. commissioned a new version in 2001 with Markie Post ("Night Court") as Electra Woman and Anne Stedman ("That '70s Show") as Dyna Girl. Where the original version was a spoof on the 60's Batman & Robin television series, this new version was a cynical take on superheroes. Markie Post's Electra Woman is portrayed as former superhero who has become trailer park trash. She's hooked on booze, and has a mighty chip on her shoulder because her original Dyna Girl stole her husband. Watch the pilot above and be on the lookout for brief appearances by The Flash...

Debuting in 1974 on NBC, Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch aired for just one season of 13 episodes. Though the animated series didn't last very long, its well-remembered by those who were watching Saturday morning television at that time.
The series revolves around Wheelie (Frank Welker), a red Volkswagen Beetle, and his girlfriend Rota Ree (Judy Strangis). Wheelie's a professional racing and stunt car and the rotten Chopper Bunch are always trying to make sure that he doesn't win his races. The members of the bunch are tough Chopper (Frank Welker), a sputtering three-wheeled motorcycle named Revs (Paul Winchell), tall and dumb Hi-Riser (Lennie Weinrib), and minibike Scrambles (Don Messick).
Warner Bros. is releasing the complete series of Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch on DVD and the three-disc set contains all 13 episodes. You can purchase Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch: Complete Series...
