You know, there’s this saying in the film Neeyat that really sticks with you: the more you see a lie, the more you believe it’s the truth. It’s quite fitting for the whole story we’re diving into here, as it revolves around the businessman Ashish Kapoor, who’s the big shot at Ak Industries. The thing is, he’s found dead during his birthday bash in this remote castle, and there are a whole bunch of characters involved in this tangled web. Now, all these characters are connected to Ashish Kapoor in some way or another. They each bring their piece to the puzzle, and then comes Mira Rao, a senior Cbi officer.
Mira steps onto the scene and starts piecing it all together. As she delves into it, she realizes that every single person has a pretty strong reason to want Ashish Kapoor gone for good.

Mumbai, March 5: Actor Sanjay Suri says the trend of opening weekends is something we have aped from Hollywood and it has not worked in our favour. He also takes a critical stand on the fad of using number of views on social media as a parameter of success, saying trailers of Oscar-winning films often have far less views than Bollywood songs but end up a bigger success.
"The opening weekend business is all about how you can market with muscle and bring the audience in and, then, on Monday you can get a great collection and then it is over and done with. 'It's a dangerous trend and doesn't allow for the film to grow," he informed matter of fact-ly.
"This opening weekend business was not part of our industry. This came in from Hollywood. Earlier, all the films grew in 25 to 30 weeks and the second week was better than the first.

Mumbai, Feb 23: Actor Sanjay Suri feels the advent of Ott has changed the dynamics of star power in Bollywood, since the platform has made content as important as the star. Suri's latest outing is the web series Dev Dd 2.
"Ott has brought about a certain democratisation of stardom. A Bollywood film on the web may have that initial spike, but if it doesn't hold, the dropout is quick and this spreads very fast. At the box office, you are catering to an audience that has paid for the ticket. Also, going for a film at the theatre is also like a getaway opportunity, but not on Ott. While watching something on Ott, you are in your pyjamas, and if a certain film or series doesn't appeal to you, you will drop out even if it has the biggest star of the century in it," says Sanjay.

New Delhi, Feb 23: Social media following seems to have become quite an obsession today with almost every celebrity trying to increase their number of followers. As long as the idea was to augment personal image, it was okay. The trouble is, a lot of television actors bemoan social media following has started dictating whether they get new work. Producers are increasingly checking the social media following an actor enjoys before casting them in roles.
Actor Abhinandan Jindal, who is currently part of the show Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega, says he ended up losing a show because of fewer followers on social media.
"I have actually seen how the number of followers you have actually affect a maker's decision to take you in a show or not. I have only 27.1K followers on Instagram and this actually affects me at times. Some days back, I went for an audition.

Mumbai, Feb 21 (Ians) The just-released second season of the popular web series "Dev Dd" touches upon subjects like female foeticide and LGBTQ.
Lead actress Asheema Vardaan, who reprises her role as Devika in the show's second season, spilled the beans on the subject. She said: "This time the show is majorly taking about female foeticide and LGBTQ. The show talks about Queer Marriage which is an important topic to shine light on as queer people don't enjoy marriage rights that as their straight counterparts do. It's saddening to see that our law don't see straight couple and Queer couple the same which leads to social stigma and ostracisation."
It is adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's epic novel "Devdas" with a female perspective as Devika. The series gives an unconventional twist to the "Devdas" storyline with gender reversals.

New Delhi, Feb 17 (Ians) With a growing demand for fresh stories, storytellers have started exploring topics that bring fresh perspectives to the screen. One addition seems to be stories on surrogacy.
At some point, it was almost a taboo to discuss the topic, on or off the screen. With mindsets as well as platforms of exhibition opening up with the advent of Ott, Bollywood filmmakers no longer shy from dealing with the subject ion a fictional manner.
"Mimi", starring Kriti Sanon, is one film based on the subject that has been creating a buzz. The actress plays a young surrogate mother in the film and had even undergone body transformation for her role, putting on 15 kilos.
Another film, "Dukaan", featuring Monika Panwar in the lead, was announced recently. The film is directed by Siddharth and Garima.
There was also a talk about a film being made on male surrogacy by Raaj Shandilyaa,...

Mumbai, Feb 16 (Ians) Actress Rashmi Agdekar is all set to reprise her role of Chandni in the second season of the popular web series Dev Dd, producer Ekta Kapoor's new-age retelling of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel Devdas.
In Dev Dd, Rashmi plays Chandni, based on the character Chunnilal in Sara Chandra's original creation. In the web series, which first dropped in 2017, the character is a lesbian.
"Back in 2017, when web series were just starting out in India, we had mostly seen caricaturish and stereotypical portrayals of Lgbtqa characters on screen. But Chandni was not written that way. She is a regular small-town girl from Jaipur with her set of values, but she likes girls. It was this aspect that drew me to this role, as it normalises the representation of homosexual characters on screen, because that is how it is in real life," she claimed.
Rashmi is super excited about the second season.

Streamers are keeping India’s more story-driven filmmakers busy, but are also taking their attention away from indie films.
The Knowledge Series at India’s Film Bazaar Online, which wrapped today, mapped out some of the realities for Indian filmmakers in a Covid-hit world. While some themes are familiar in film industries all over the world – rising production costs, shuttered cinemas and a shift to streaming – others were uniquely Indian.
On a ‘Future of Film Distribution’ panel, producer Guneet Monga explained how shooting restarted in India last October with Covid safety measures, including social distancing, zoning of film sets and regular testing.

Pareeksha (Zee5)
Starring Adil Hussain, Priyanka Bose, Shubham Jha, Sanjay Suri
Directed by Prakash Jha
The heart is completely in the right place. Pareeksha, director Prakash Jha’s best in years, is a heartwarming, unabashed tearjerker. It reminded me of one my favourite Shabana Azmi starrers Bhavna (1984) where the mother of a child goes to extreme lengths (prostitution) to educate her son. In Pareeksha, Adil Hussain as the all-giving father Buchi an honest righteous rickshaw puller, becomes a thief to accrue money for his son’s education in a posh school.
Some of the rickshaw pullers adversities are clearly excessive and the school’s stiff upperlipped board members are pure caricatures. Jha wins us over with the sheer velocity of the emotions expressed. This is his most emotional films since Mrityudand and by far the most pure-hearted.
There are no ‘bad people’ in the basti where Buchi’s prodigious child Bulbul(Shubham Jha,...

Jhalki
Starring Aarti Jha, Sanjay Suri, Divya Dutta
Directed by Brahmanand S Siingh
Jhalki is not a great film. It is riddled with imperfections and the plot careens dangerously towards manipulative sentimentality.
But this is film that comes straight from the heart, warts, moles, smothered screams and all. It is a must-see for anyone who cares for the underprivileged children of the country who are often left at the mercy of savage exploiters and vulnerable to attacks of all sorts due to poverty.
Little sprightly Jhalki and her baby-brother Babu, almost like speckled cousins of Durga and Apu, with not a care in the world (except perhaps where the next meal would come from) are torn away from their village and parents, when a ruthless middleman whisks them away to the city.
There begins Jhalki’s search for her missing brother, a search that will remind you frequently of last...
