After a two-hour-plus main set that slammed home themes of mortality and impermanence and the way of all flesh, Bruce Springsteen reemerged on Madison Square Garden’s stage Saturday night, April 1, for his usual lengthy encore, and announced “something special for New York City.” He pointed over at Soozie Tyrell, who began a dead-on recreation of one of rock’s few canonical violin melodies, over piano from all-time-great arpeggio purveyor Roy Bittan. They eased the E Street Band into the 11-minute-long, 48-year-old mini-rock-opera “Jungleland,” played and sung with enough muscle...

Decades from now, when historians and epidemiologists look back at the Covid era, they’ll probably have a hard time pinpointing the exact moment the pandemic came to an end in America and normal life resumed. Some will probably point to the day in August 2021 when the vaccination rate hit 70 percent, while others will spotlight April 2022, when airlines dropped their mask mandate, or even Joe Biden’s 60 Minutes...

Jon Bon Jovi went home Sunday night (Oct. 27) for the 11th annual New Jersey Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The rocker helped induct Southside Johnny Lyon with the honor at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park. Bon Jovi was reverential, telling the audience that without Southside Johnny, there wouldn’t be a Jon Bon Jovi. “I grew up on the sounds of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, but I always wanted to be an Asbury Juke,“ Bon Jovi said.
A clearly moved Lyon, who noted how he never understood why “Tonight Show” host Johnny Carson always made cracks about New Jersey, said he always felt a need to defend the state with an “axe to grind.” Said Lyon: “I wanted to prove that New Jersey was just as good as any other state.”

The story of how Jon Landau saw Bruce Springsteen play at Cambridge, Massachusetts’ Harvard Square Theater on May 9th, 1974 and then declared him “rock and roll future” in Boston’s Real Paper, creating a tidal wave of hype that crested with the release of Born to Run the following year, has been told many times. What’s far less known is that a young photographer named Barry Schneier was perched near the stage that night, snapping gorgeous photographs of the early show and the late show along with the soundcheck.

Bruce Springsteen called in to the E Street Radio channel on Sirius Xm to chat about his new record, “Western Stars” and share some news about a new film based on the music.
“We made a film of us playing the ‘Western Stars’ album start to finish, plus some other things,” he revealed. “I knew we weren’t going to tour, so I figured this was the best way to do it.
“[The film] is looking good — that will be exciting,” he continued. “It will be out in the calendar year.”
Springsteen confirmed the film was directed by Thom Zimny, who was also behind the camera for “Springsteen on Broadway,” and “Bruce Springsteen: Hunter of Invisible Game” (2014), among other films. He picked up a Grammy Award for Best Long Form Music Video for “Wings on Wheels: The Making of Born to Run” (2005). A rep for the singer did not immediately have further information.

“Asbury Park: Riot, Redemption, Rock n’ Roll,” a new documentary exploring the roots of the New Jersey sound, is hitting theaters worldwide for an engagement on May 22 and 29.
The film chronicles the town’s founding, its Jersey Shore heyday and dark periods like the race riots of the 1960s. Helping to dig deep into Asbury Park’s history are local luminaries Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Van Zandt (aka Little Steven) and Southside Johnny Lyon. The theater run was facilitated through a partnership with Jersey Mike’s Subs and Halo X Media. The two companies are teaming up to donate a portion of the profits to promoting and creating music education programs for children, according to a release.
“Jersey Mike’s is also an iconic part of the Jersey Shore and a great supporter of the community,” said the film’s Director Tom Jones. “Their heartfelt desire to make a difference makes...

Because who wouldn't call Prince Harry their boyfriend if given the opportunity? A possible new (and regal!) couple alert started making headlines after the young royal was posed in a photograph that labeled him as a young woman's boyfriend. But that's not actually the case, people. It was just a joke. Olivia Tallent, daughter of Garry Tallent who is in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, had the wonderful pleasure of making Harry's acquaintance when Harry showed up to enjoy the band's performance at Wembley Stadium last night as part of their The River tour. So, obviously, the 19-year-old took a snap with Harry. And, also obviously, captioned the adorable photo, "new...

-- Bruce Springsteen, "Wrecking Ball" (Columbia)
Nearly three decades ago, Bruce Springsteen wrote with sadness about a man showing his young son a hometown ravaged by outside economic forces, a town the family was about to leave.
He's not sad now. He's angry, mighty angry. On the new song, "Death to My Hometown," he wants to "send the robber barons straight to hell, the greedy thieves who came around and ate the flesh of everything they found, whose crimes have gone unpunished now, who walk the streets as free men now."
With economic injustice, Springsteen's powerful new disc has a subject he can sink his teeth into, and he matches it with music that has some of the same clenched fury.
The working man who "always loved the feel of sweat on my shirt" now wakes up each morning feeling imprisoned in a system stacked against him. In "Jack of All Trades,...
