The fans. I really missed the character, and when the show started, many fans asked where I was. The more time that went on, I felt I needed to do this.
What kind of story did they pitch to get you to return?
There was no pitch. I got the script and discovered what I would be doing and what little bits of information they were given about where Greg had been.

Last night, CBS released the new promo/spoiler clip (below) for their upcoming "Hawaii Five-o" episode 12 of season 5, and it gives us new looks at some pretty dramatic stuff as Steve car gets stolen, which highly pisses him off, and more! The episode is titled, "Poina 'Ole." In the new, 12th episode official plotline: When a neurosurgeon is assassinated just before performing surgery, Five-0 is going to uncover the Shocking truth behind the disappearance of four reform school boys 40 years Ago. Plotline number 2: When a neurosurgeon is assassinated just before performing surgery, Five-0 will uncover the shocking truth behind the disappearance of four reform school boys 40 years ago. Also, McGarrett's Mercury Marquis will get stolen by an unlikely culprit. The episode was written by John Dove, and it was directed by Brad Tanenbaum. Episode 12 is scheduled to air on Friday night, January 16th at 8pm central time on CBS.
