"We told you, and you did not listen, and now it's officially too late!" Gravitas Ventures has unveiled a trailer for an indie absurdist comedy titled I've Got Issues, from filmmaker Steve Collins. This premiered at the Austin Film Festival last year, and also at the Virginia Film Festival. It's a comedy about despair and what to do with it - in a series of intertwining stories. Collins explains that "it really feels like an apocalypse. I decided, as therapy for myself, to make a film about my tenderhearted characters joining together and choosing light over darkness. I'm trying to take these small stories of people being taken advantage of, heartbroken, beaten down, and link them to the larger picture of suffering across history, to see pain is part of the process in our renewal." The film's cast features Macon Blair, Claire Titelman, Maria Thayer, John Merriman, Byron Brown, and Jim Gaffigan.

Dark Sky Films plans to release Night of the Living Deb in the United States and Canada this September. The latest film from director Kyle Rankin made its world premiere at last year's FrightFest and will receive a UK release from Icon Films, the distributor behind Rankin's directorial debut, Infestation (2010).
With the upcoming North American release of Night of the Living Deb, Mpi/Dark Sky Films will continue their history of working with Jinga Films, having previously distributed Gnaw, Para Elisa, and The House at the End of Time.

Genre sales specialist Jinga Films has sold Kyle Rankins’ comedy-horror Night Of The Living Deb to Mpi/Dark Sky Films for North America.

Maria Thayer (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Michael Cassidy (Argo) and Ray Wise (Robocop) star in the rom-zom-com about a one night stand that evolves into a zombie apocalypse in which a mismatched couple discover that the only thing scarier than trusting someone with your life is trusting them with your heart.

“Night Of The Living Deb is America’s answer to Shaun Of The Dead,” said Jinga’s Julian Richards, “and with recent titles such as Deathgasm and Southbound we are pleased to be in business again with Mpi/Dark Sky Films.”

The zombie romantic comedy is a difficult film to get right. It all depends on the tone of the script and the direction taken by the filmmaker in bringing it to the screen. Films in this very specific sub-genre either focus primarily on one of the elements – love (Warm Bodies), laughs (A Little Bit Zombie), or blood and guts (Braindead, aka Dead Alive) – or strike a fine balance between all three (Shaun of the Dead, Deathgasm), all to varying degrees of success. In Night of the Living Deb, director Kyle Rankin (Infestation) seems to be trying for the latter, but does he succeed?

Gotham, Season 2, Episode 2, “Knock, Knock”
Written by Ken Woodruff
Directed by Rob Bailey
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on Fox
On this Gotham, the villains take the stage as they begin their reign of terror on the city. Continuing the season’s Rise of the Villains theme, this episode puts the spotlight on Jerome as the indisputable leader of the Arkham Asylum Escapees known as The Maniax!, as he stands to be, perhaps, the most terrifying villain that Gotham City has ever faced.
As we all know, Jerome is meant to be a precursor to Batman’s greatest villain, The Joker, and in this episode we are privy to him beginning his rise to evil prominence. As a villain, Jerome is eager to leave his mark on Gotham and this episode showcases the extent of his heinous actions, a benchmark being his murder of the newly instated Commissioner Essen. From the opening sequence,...

Night of the Living Deb, directed by Kyle Rankin starring Maria Thayer (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Michael Cassidy (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice), Christopher Marquette (Just Friends, The Girl Next Door) and Ray Wise (Infestation, Twin Peaks).
After a girls’ night out, endearingly awkward Deb wakes up in the apartment of the most attractive guy in Portland, Maine. She’s thrilled, but can’t remember much of what got her there. Ryan only knows it was a mistake, and ushers her out the door into a full-scale zombie apocalypse. There are some films that, upon viewing, you just can’t help but fall in love with (and Night of the Living Deb is not the only film at this years Frightfest to hit me in my horror-loving heart). Back in 2009, at my very first Frightfest as a reviewer – covering the festival for Bloody Disgusting – there was one such film… Infestation. A parody of nature run amok movies like The Swarm, Phase IV and Them!, Infestation was a near-perfect comedic take on the killer-insect genre (even though those original creature-features are funny enough as they are) with stellar performances from Chris Marquette and Ray Wise. Well that was 6 years ago. a long six years. Since then director Kyle Rankin has been...

Gotham Season 1, Episode 14: “The Fearsome Dr. Crane”
Written by John Stephens
Directed by John Behring
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on Fox
Following the winding down of “Welcome Back, Jim Gordon”, the season continues with an episode that stabilizes the narrative with a case of the week hinting at the iconic Batman villain, The Scarecrow. Unfortunately his characterization is undermined with a poorly-executed exposition dump that feels unearned and unclear; the episode is much more concerned with reinforcing the shifted dynamics that were established in the previous episode. It’s not uncommon for a series to spin its wheels at times during a 22 episode season, but what is disappointing is that it does so here without giving a worthwhile character his due.
This is not to say the episode is a poor one, as it does create good character moments for all of the already established characters. Although it...

Stepping up the the plate as director of an episode of the TV series you're a star on is no small task. When that episode includes TV icon Matthew Perry as a guest star? It gets a little tougher.
Luckily, Brian Van Holt had the support of his cast and crew when he directed Tuesday's (Jan. 14) episode of "Cougar Town" because, as he tells Zap2it, it was a daunting endeavor. "It was a little nerve-wracking, at first. It was a big episode, especially having Matthew on it, you know," he says. "It was a big episode, an important episode, so that brings some pressure. But it's a great script and everybody really stepped up and made it possible, made my job easier, made it a great experience."

According to Chris Elliott and Maria Thayer, acting on "Eagleheart" is no cakewalk. Elliott has to constantly figure out if he's happy, sad or mad. Thayer's relationships with her co-stars apparently resemble the contentious interactions she shares with them on screen, as Elliott and fellow cast member Brett Gelman regularly give her shit. "It's a hard job," she insists. But all of that effort is worth it -- to viewers, at least: "Eagleheart" is one of the funniest shows on television, and as it embarks on its third season, which kicked off last night on Adult Swim, the show makes a transition from single-serving episodes to something more ambitious -- a season-long narrative which, according to Elliott, you could edit into a feature. Elliott and Thayer sat down with Indiewire earlier this week to discuss their work on the show from its earliest days until now, when it not only...

Ever since watching the series finale of IFC’s new series, Maron, I have struggled to find the right words and the right tone to describe my experience with the show. It is far from perfect and has its fair share of missteps, but excels in bringing to life Marc Maron’s sardonic world view that he popularized through his stand-up and most recently through his successful podcasts. The show is clearly indebted to the groundbreaking series Louis, which has paved the way for a lower-budget, more personalized brand of comedy on television. Marc Maron’s take on the world though, departs crucially from that of Louis C.K., whose vision seems essentially more nuanced and complex, as Louis C.K. seems able to depart from his person and see the world from a different perspective. Louis C.K. feels almost like an outsider: a workingman’s Socrates. On the other hand, Marc Maron...

Pier Paolo Pasolini’S Trilogy Of Life (Criterion) Pier Paolo Pasolini was Italy’s last Neo-Realist, a product of post-ww II Europe who was fervently Catholic, openly gay, defiantly Marxist, and one of the most original voices of the 20th century’s second half. Before his brutal murder in 1975 (after the premiere of his still-controversial swan song, “Salo”), Pasolini directed a trilogy of films based on masterpieces of medieval literature: Boccaccio’s “The Decameron,” Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales,” and “The Thousand and One Nights (also known as “The Arabian Nights”). The three films celebrate the uninhibited, earthy, raw carnal nature of the original texts, leaving little to the imagination, but also offering Pasolini’s own very unique and pointed views on modern society, consumerism, religious and sexual mores (and hypocrisies), and an unexpurgated celebration of the human body, both male and female. Extraordinary production design by Dante Ferretti and another evocative,...

There were a lot of tricks (welcome back, Sam!) but not very many treats on this Very Special Episode of New Girl. It seems like almost all the obstacles are being cleared to pave the way for fan fulfillment (whether Jess-Nick or Schmidt-Cece). Or maybe these people are just terrible at forming deep, lasting relationships in general. Either way, it made for some laugh-out-loud moments. My personal favorite involved Nick and a protective ghost. But more on that later…

It's Halloween tonight on New Girl and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) lands a spooky themed job as a zombie in a haunted house. There will be scares aplenty; some related to current romantic entanglements and others thanks to the group outing to the haunted house. Spoilers ahead.
When Sam (David Walton) leaves his wallet with Jess this leads to Jess discovering that Sam is a pediatrician and Sam tries to play down his doctor status. Jess claims that this new information won't change her feelings for him, but is Jess going to fall for Sam in a big way? Jess has a hard time keeping it casually and this is her first relationship of this kind and it doesn't look like Sam is the kind of guy who will want to settle down soon. Is Halloween going to become a broken-hearted nightmare?

Last night you probably tuned in to see Zooey Deschanel get her model game on in New Girl, but next up for the Fox show’s sophomore season is Halloween! Keeping it simple, next week’s episode (October 30th) is in fact titled “Halloween”, and via Fox we have a full gallery of images from the episode, teasing Jess in her gig as a zombie at a haunted house! That’s right, Zombie Zooey!
Here is the New Girl “Halloween” (2.06) episode summary:
Jess (Zooey Deschanel) gets a job as a zombie at a haunted house, but is more frightened of her changing feelings towards Sam (guest star David Walton). Then, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece (Hannah Simone) are – unfortunately – perfectly matched in the costumes they’re wearing, while Winston (Lamorne Morris) and Shelby (guest star Kali Hawk) are worlds apart in theirs. The Season 2 premiere of Fox’s New Girl kicked off Tuesday night with two episodes, carrying over a few threads from Season 1 and setting up the large arcs for Season 2. We couldn’t help but wonder how New Girl, continues to be new, since Jess (Zooey Deschanel) became one of the guys. We’ll recall that Nick (Jake Johnson) decided not to move out with his then girlfriend and moved back with the gang, joining Jess, marketing creep Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Winston (Lamorne Morris). Here are some observations on how we think they’ll keep the momentum going based on the season premiere.

New Girl is bringing on a couple of very, very attractive ladies to mess around with the hearts of some of the men in Jess’s apartment. We can all look forward to seeing Carla Gugino and Maria Thayer doing their thing with Schmidt and Nick respectively. And as is the usual game on New Girl, these girls won’t at all be good for either man, but it could take them some time before they realize their too far up the creek without a paddle. All in all, Schmidt will have a much rougher – and possible more hilarious – time compared to Nick, but I still envy neither of them.
As reported by E! Online, Thayer will be playing a former girlfriend of Nick’s from his college days. She broke his heart all those many years ago, but now she’s back to haunt him, on Halloween no less.

Carla Gugino as Christian Grey? Only in the world of New Girl.
Entertainment Weekly confirms that the veteran actress, most recently seen on USA's Political Animals, will recur on Season 2 of the Fox comedy in an especially seductive role.
Gugino will portray Emma, Schmidt's new boss... and lover.
In fact, the magazine describes her character as having a "Fifty Shades of Grey" type relationship with everyone's favorite Jewish roommate. Look for Emma to actually make Schmidt signed a contract that binds the pair together.
The beautiful star will appear in three episodes, starting with the season's seventh.
New Girl, which returns with two installments on September 25, also recently cast Maria Thayer as Nick's ex-girlfriend.

Nick's past is coming back to haunt him this Halloween on New Girl.
Maria Thayer has been cast as Amelia, a girl who broke his heart in college, and who Nick is still smitten with. Based on what we know of Nick, there's no conceivable way this ends well, but it should be hilarious.
Later this fall, she comes back to pay our favorite, maligned bartender a visit, and brings a terrrible (and rather amusing) flaw with her, according to E! Online, which first reported Thayer's casting.
Any guesses on what that might consist of?
The hit comedy premieres Tuesday, September 25 on Fox.
