Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater are sharing some very rare photos together!
The couple and Wicked costars were first romantically linked in the summer of 2023, and they’re still going strong months later. In fact, a recent report suggested that they are “getting more serious” about their relationship.
While things seem to be going well, we don’t often get pictures of Ari and Ethan. On Wednesday (April 10), they shared two new photos that were taken at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During the event, Ari, who plays Glinda in the forthcoming movies, took the stage with Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba), Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible), Jeff Goldblum (the Wizard of Oz) and Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero).
It turns out that Ethan, who plays Boq, was also present. We know this because Jeff and director Jon M. Chu shared photos of him backstage with the rest of the cast.

Based on the book by Gregory Maguire, the hit Broadway stage musical "Wicked" opened on October 30, 2003, at the Gershwin Theatre, and has been running there ever since. It recently surpassed "Cats" to become the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history, although it has a long way to go to supplant "The Lion King" as the third-longest. The musical is a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz," depicting the Wicked Witch of the West as a young green-skinned woman named Elphaba whose reputation has been wildly misunderstood. The show won three Tonys upon its release, and the accompanying soundtrack album won an Emmy. One might say that "Wicked" is very ... Popular.
The musical only runs about two hours and 30 minutes (with intermission), but that runtime hasn't stopped director Jon M. Chu from adapting "Wicked" into a massive, two-film epic. "Wicked: Part One" is due in theaters on November 27, 2024, while "Wicked: Part Two...

There’s no place like CinemaCon for Universal to debut enchanting new footage for Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of Wicked! On Wednesday, the studio dropped a house on the CinemaCon crowd at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, helping Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, to tell her side of a misunderstood story.
During Universal’s CinemaCon presentation, the studio surprised the crowd by activating lanyards and roses given out before the presentation. Like magic, the objects lit up, flashing different colors as the theater filled with music. When the Great and Powerful Oz showed up, the lights interacted with his entrance. Jeff Goldblum is Oz, and he took the stage to introduce the film. “I’ll be a ringtail flying monkey if that’s not the biggest flying cranium I’ve seen in my life,” Goldblum quipped about his character.

“Wicked” stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo traveled to Las Vegas for CinemaCon, the annual convention for movie theater owners.
Dressed in their character’s signature pink and green aesthetic, the Grammy-nominated artists graced the stage at Caesars Palace to hype up “Wicked,” the big-budget movie musical that’s due in theaters around Thanksgiving.
“We both felt such a tremendous responsibility to honor these women and to pour our hearts, our souls, our tears — so many different pairs of lashes,” said Grande, who requested to hold hands with her co-star on stage. Erivo added, “I’m really grateful for this journey that we’ve taken together.”
Though they didn’t sing (to the disappointment of many in the room), they introduced an extended featurette. Scored to “Popular” and “Defying Gravity,” the dazzling footage showcased the sweeping, brightly lit world and includes scenes of Elphaba roaming the halls of Shiz University...

Glinda tells Elphaba not to be afraid and Elphaba replies, “I’m not. It’s the Wizard who should be afraid of me,” in the first trailer for Universal Pictures’ Wicked. Grammy winner Ariana Grande stars as Glinda and Emmy, Grammy, and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo is Elphaba in the film adaptation of the long-running musical.
Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz and focuses on Elphaba, “a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power,” and Glinda, “a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.”
Per Universal: “The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths.

Ding dong! The wicked witch is alive and well in the first trailer for “Wicked.”
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are a vision in green and pink as they grace the fantastical land of Oz in Jon M. Chu’s upcoming movie musical. And the first look at the film, which debuted during the Super Bowl on Sunday, unfolds to the familiar strains of “Defying Gravity,” the show’s signature anthem.
“Don’t be afraid,” Grande’s Glinda reassures Erivo’s Elphaba.
“I’m not afraid,” Erivo responds, steely voiced. “It’s the Wizard who should be afraid of me.”
This is clearly a different Oz than the one that Dorthy Gale encountered. Based on Gregory Maguire’s novel that inspired Broadway’s acclaimed musical of the same name, “Wicked” precedes Dorothy’s arrival in the magical world and tells the legend of world and the story behind Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.

Hollywood has been wanting to turn Stephen Schwartz's smash hit musical "Wicked" into a movie for well over 10 years. I remember reading news stories about potential directors as far back as 2010, long before "In the Heights" filmmaker Jon M. Chu eventually signed on to bring this "Wizard of Oz" prequel story to the big screen. Now Universal Pictures has finally released the first trailer for the film, which is set long before Dorothy crashes her way into the Land of Oz. The adaptation of the beloved musical follows the doomed friendship between two witches: Galinda, the eventual Good Witch of the South (played here by pop superstar Ariana Grande), and the green-skinned Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West (played by Broadway veteran and actor Cynthia Erivo).
If this trailer is any indication, it looks like the years-long wait may have been worth it: Chu and his team...

“I was thinking, I’ve done a musical, ‘Wicked.’ … I play a witch,” Yeoh said, referencing Madame Morrible’s status as a villain — and her desire for her grandson to not see her as one. “What is not going to traumatize them?” She concluded: “Maybe not one of my movies. Until they’re older.”
Yeoh then bashfully made a quip about audiences witnessing her singing in the upcoming “Wicked” films: “I say,...

Michelle Yeoh is back! Not that she went anywhere, to paraphrase the Nicolas Cage comedy "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent." Still, we're undeniably in the midst of a renaissance (a Yeohnaissance?) for the Oscar-winning Malaysian superstar, one that arguably started with her role as the steely matriarch of the uber-wealthy Young family in 2018's "Crazy Rich Asians." Her latest project, "The Brothers Sun," once again sees Yeoh playing the determined head of a clan, this time portraying Eileen Sun, the wife of the recently assassinated head of a powerful Taiwanese triad.
The Sun family's connections to organized crime come as a real shock to Eileen's youngest son Bruce (Sam Song Li), who's been living a quiet life with his mother in Los Angeles when his older brother, Charles (Justin Chien), shows up to break the news ... and with a whole lot of dangerous people who want them dead on his tail.

Wicked director Jon M. Chu has some encouraging news for Wicked fans. According to the celebrated filmmaker, the first part of the fantasy classic’s film adaptation will release on time despite the ongoing Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strike. Commenting about the film’s status on Twitter, Chu said Wicked: Part One production was days away from completion before the strike halted activity. Chu is confident the movie will resume as soon as better working conditions for writers and actors in the film industry take shape. Wicked: Part One isn’t flying into cinemas until late 2024, giving the team ample time to finish the highly-anticipated project.
“Not done yet,” Chu tweeted. “Just paused until the strike is over and we can finish the last pieces of the movie. We were only a few days away from being done so we were So close. It’s been...

Stephen Schwartz's musical "Wicked" celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2023. An even greater milestone is on the horizon; "Part One" of the long-awaited film adaptation arrives in 2024. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film retells the story of the musical, itself a retelling of prior tales. It's about the doomed friendship between two witches, Glinda (the future Good Witch of the South) and the green-skinned Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West.
"Wicked" began as a novel (written by Gregory Maguire), but Schwartz's musical is what made the story a modern classic. It's probably the most famous adaptation of L. Frank Baum's "Oz" mythos, discounting the beloved 1939 "Wizard of Oz" film.
Chu's film take will feature Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. Both are trained singers so by casting them, the movie is already off to a good start. After a first look...

Something Wicked happened in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
During Universal Pictures’ presentation at CinemaCon, the studio offered up a look at its highly anticipated two-part musical Wicked from director Jon M. Chu and starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. It was received with applause from theater owners, who were treated to looks at flying monkeys and an immersive Emerald City.
“Wicked is such a proud part of our legacy,” said Universal film boss Donna Langley, who noted the musical has just become the fourth longest-running in Broadway history. “They are creating an entire world I know will dazzle your screens.”
The footage from Wicked was a rough cut as the films are still in production. It included behind-the-scenes looks at Erivo flying on a broom and some of the craftsmanship going into the project.
“I knew what this movie could be. What does it feel like to be in Oz?...

If you were among those eagerly awaiting a look at Wicked film stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in full witchy getup as Elphaba and Glinda, director Jon M. Chu has taken to Instagram to offer the first official images. We wouldn't say they're the clearest of pictures, but it's all part of teasing the two-part movie. Take a look:
Wicked, in case you weren't already aware, was originally drawn from Gregory Maguire's novel, which tells the untold story of Galinda and Elphaba, the witches from The Wizard Of Oz. The movie comes via the stage production’s book writer Winnie Holzman and Academy Award winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz.
Erivo's Elphaba is the young witch who will go on to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, but who is seriously misunderstood. Grande, meanwhile, plays the ambitious, popular Glinda (changing her name slightly).

He then explained to Kimmel that they showed his children “one of my favorite movies” – 1939’s The Wizard of Oz — but that it didn’t go over well with them. “It was too scary for them,” Goldblum said. “That witch is terrifying. Margaret Hamilton, terrifying.” He later added that they didn’t...

Prepare for an earlier return to Oz.
“Wicked,” Universal’s big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, is landing in theaters on Nov. 27, 2024 — a month ahead of schedule. The movie was initially scheduled to open on Dec. 25, but the studio felt it would be better positioned around Thanksgiving compared to Christmas.
Though the release calendar will change over the next two years, there’s currently only a Disney Animation placeholder on the docket during Thanksgiving of 2024. By comparison, Christmastime is stacked with “Avatar 3” (a sequel to the third-highest grossing movie in history), as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.”
Jon M. Chu is directing “Wicked,” which has been split into two parts. For now, the second installment is set to release a year later on Dec. 25, 2025. (There aren’t any “Avatar” sequels planned for 2025… at the moment.)
A prequel of sorts to “The Wizard of Oz,” “Wicked” recounts everything...

It turns out the Academy really liked doing laundry and taxes with “Everything Everywhere All at Once” star Michelle Yeoh, who completed her recent sweep of best actress prizes with a thunderous, history-making win at the 95th Oscars for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She is the first-ever lead actress of Asian descent to win in all 95 years of the Academy Awards.
Yeoh, a titan of Asian cinema who famously performed a number of stunts in death-defying action classics such as “Supercop” and “Yes, Madam” before finding her way into the Bond movie “Tomorrow Never Dies,” the Ang Lee classic “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Memoirs of a Geisha,” and “Crazy Rich Asians.” She is a beloved industry legend and the Daniels wrote the role of Evelyn Wang in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” especially for her.

Michelle Yeoh sees her casting in “Wicked” was a result of progress.
The actress is set to play Madame Morrible in the upcoming live-action movie adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, a role first played by Carole Shelley and frequently portrayed by Caucasian actresses in the past.
Yeoh was not unaware of this fact, seeing it as both a good sign for representation in media as well as a natural evolution.

“In the past, this role would’ve been for a Caucasian lady,” she told People for their March cover story. “This is what we call diversity, inclusivity. This is how you make it work. It is a natural process—progress, evolution that we can have as storytellers.”

Everything Everywhere All at Once Oscar nominee Michelle Yeoh skipped the Super Bowl in favor of a private dinner prepared by Michelin-star chef Daniel Boulud and hosted by Mandarin Oriental Residences and real estate developer Michael Shvo on Feb. 12.
The actress, who jetted in from London for the weekend (and the Oscar nominees luncheon where she caught up with Tom Cruise), was on break from filming her role as Madame Morrible in the Jon Chu-directed big-screen adaptation of the musical Wicked. Of the much anticipated adaptation of the Broadway smash, she tells THR that the movie is going amazingly so far.
“Jon Chu has always been such an incredible filmmaker, and they were right to wait for the right time to find the right director,” she says before turning her attention to her co-stars, playing Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. “And with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, it’s like a dream.

Michelle Yeoh is reflecting on diverse casting for the “Wizard of Oz” prequel film “Wicked.”
The adaptation of the novel and Tony-winning Broadway production is helmed by “Crazy Rich Asians” director Jon M. Chu, marking a reunion with Yeoh. The Oscar-nominated actress reflected on being cast as Madame Morrible, the headmistress of the university where Glinda the Good Witch (Ariana Grande) first meets outcast Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), who later becomes known as the Wicked Witch of the West. Jonathan Bailey and Jeff Goldblum also round out the cast.
“When we talk about diversity and representation and all these kinds of things, it’s like the role has always been played by a caucasian lady,” Yeoh said during SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show.” (See the clip below.)
She added, “And now guess what? And that’s how we hope the future is that we have roles that are not specifically...
