Johnny Sequoyah, Jake McLaughlin
Believe, Season 1, Episode 12: “Second Chance”
Written by Jonas Pate and Hans Tobeason
Directed by Frederick E.O. Toye
Airs Sundays at 9pm (Et) on NBC
When the list of shows for the 2013-2014 television season was announced, a particular show caught the eye of many; Believe, which came from the collaborative efforts of Jj Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron. Unfortunately, after a midseason premiere, the show received a cancellation notice, making its first season the only one, barring a revival down the line. The adventures of Bo, Tate, Winter, Skouras, and Orchestra came to a close with last night’s finale, in an entertaining end to the show that serves to highlight some of its strengths.
The development of the relationship between Bo and Tate has been a strong aspect of the series, and is a highlight of the finale as well. Watching the two develop a...

One theme that runs through much of J.J. Abrams' work as a writer and producer is family, from the ad hoc families of the college students on "Felicity" and the castaways of "Lost" to the father-daughter drama of "Alias," the husband-wife drama of "Undercovers" and the father-son drama of "Fringe."
Whatever situation the characters land in - and some of these shows have very fantastical premises -- the core of the story is people struggling with, or forming, close family bonds.
Expect more of the same when Abrams' latest project, "Believe," premieres Monday, March 10, on NBC. Created by Alfonso Cuaron ("Gravity") and Mark Friedman for Abrams' Bad Robot Productions -- with Jonas Pate and Hans Tobeason as the current showrunners -- it centers on 10-year-old Bo (Johnny Sequoyah), a precocious girl who was also born with a range of unusual powers, including levitation, telekinesis and precognition.

As we approach the premiere of Alfonso Cuaron‘s Bad Robot series Believe on NBC, we’re starting to get TV spots and more to promote it, and give us a little more information. For many of us, “Alfonso Cuaron” or “Bad Robot” would be enough to get us to watch, let alone the fact that it comes from both of them, but still, more information is always nice.
Here’s the synopsis, followed by the new TV spot and trailer, along with the Comic-Con trailer we posted last July. Sorry, that does mean you’ll need to listen to the famous scream three times, but it’s worth it:

Maybe I’ve just been doing this for too long and I’ve become jaded by certain aspects of the television industry, but when I hear that NBC is having troubles with a series that has not even aired yet I roll my eyes. Believe comes from Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron and J.J. Abrams and has had a bit of a rocky history ahead of its midseason premiere. It hasn’t been anything too newsworthy, until now. We’ve gotten to the point that I’m likely just going to pass on Believe when it eventually premieres simply because the shenanigans going on behind the scenes don’t bode well for the series’ longevity.
Some shows have trouble holding on to showrunners, the leads writers who guide the direction the show will take. The Walking Dead is on its third showrunner, but that series was an early hit and has...

NBC‘s high profile midseason drama series Believe, co-created and executive produced by Gravity director/co-writer Alfonso Cuaron and exec produced by J.J. Abrams, is undergoing a behind the scenes change. Executive producer/showrunner Dave Erickson is expected to depart. He will be succeeded by co-executive producer/director Jonas Pate who has been named executive producer/showrunner, a rare case of a director, not a writer taking the reins of a scripted serie. He directed the important second episode of the series that follows the pilot helmed by Cuaron. Pate joins executive producers Cuaron, Abrams, Bryan Burk as well as Hans Tobeason who will now serve as on-set producer in New York where the series films. This marks the second showrunner change on Believe. Co-creator/executive producer and original showrunner Mark Friedman left the series in July. To accommodate the showrunner transition, Believe is going on a holiday hiatus a...
