Fernando Torres, who became the fastest Liverpool player to score 50 goals, is the latest high-profile Spanish footballer to be added to Amazon’s growing sports doc slate.
The former Atlético Madrid striker, who retired earlier this summer, is to be the subject of Fernando Torres: El Último Símbolo for the Svod service. It will air in Spain and the UK in 2020.
The documentary will follow Torres’ career from his debut at Atlético Madrid through to his move to Liverpool and his retirement after joining the Japanese league.
Torres, who scored 65 goals in 102 games for the current European Champions League holders, is one of Spain’s greatest strikers, having been part of their golden age of tournament winners and their third highest goal scorer ever. The doc will feature interviews with his colleagues, football icons and coaches as well as the player himself.

When it comes to transfer business, Liverpool have had a mixed time of things throughout their history. There have been times when they’ve captured a top quality player at a fantastic price, but equally there have been occasions when they’ve spent horribly over the odds on a player simply nowhere near the level required.
The likes of Sami Hyypia, Xabi Alonso and Didi Hamann all proved to be fantastic bargain buys, and went on to become club legends, Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres more than justified their hefty price tags while Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing were complete failures, with all due respect.
There are also those players who the Reds have missed out on down the years. There are numerous stars who have been agonisingly close to completing a move to Anfield, only for things not to materialise. They have then gone on...

Since the Premier League began in 1992, Liverpool have suffered numerous highs and lows. Graeme Souness and Roy Hodgson both did their level best to drag the club into obscurity during their respective reigns as manager, while Gerard Houlller, Rafa Benitez and, currently, Brendan Rodgers, have all come close to bringing the glory days back to Anfield.
Throughout that time, some wonderful players have represented the Reds. Whether it be commanding centre-backs, world-class midfielders or lethal strikers, Liverpool have had it in abundance. The hardest thing is whittling down all those great players to a single best starting 11.
Who makes the cut up front out out of Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez? Which midfield enforcer gets the nod out of Didi Hamann and Javier Mascherano?
Here is Liverpool’s Greatest XI Of The Premier League Era……….

If there is one thing that cannot be denied it’s that Liverpool have spent a huge amount of money on players over the years, particularly in the last decade or so.
In that time, we have seen the likes of Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, Jordan Henderson and Luis Suarez make big-money moves to Merseyside and justify the price tag. On the flip side, there are those who cost Liverpool a small fortune and simply never came close to repaying the huge faith shown in them.
This list looks at the worst offenders in Reds history- there are a fair few to choose from, sadly- outlining just how little they achieved in relation to the crazy sums of money they had left their previous clubs for.

When it comes to football, one thing that stirs more debate than most is transfers. Fans are obsessed with finding out which players are being linked with their respective clubs on a daily basis, as well as checking who appears to be nearing the exit door. As the years have gone by the transfer window has become something of a phenomenon, so much so that we are all now sick of the sight of Sky Sports News presenter Jim White.
Some signings can bring great joy to supporters- the day Robbie Fowler rejoined Liverpool was momentous, and Fernando Torres’ arrival was met with great glee too- while others can leave you deeply unhappy because they have a track record of being pretty forgettable players. There are often more of the latter than the former.

There have been so many incoming transfers passing through Melwood in the last 15 years that Liverpool supporters must have been straining their brains trying to keep up with the latest personnel. With a revolving door system of managers in the last few years, there has been not an iota of stability within the club, and ultimately, there have been numerous transfers as a result. Of course, Rafael Benitez had much to answer for as well, what with his penchant for dipping his beak into the transfer market every twenty minutes.
As a result, this means that while the Kop has been privy to some world-class players, such as Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano and Fernando Torres, there have been an awful lot of sub-standard players within the pile. Whether they were once shining lights whose sparks have since fizzled, or simply youth players who never realised their potential,...

Shakira and her boyfriend Gerard Pique were spotted kissing courtside at the Fiba World Cup quarterfinals in Barcelona on Tuesday.
Shakira & Gerard Pique Kiss At Basketball Game
Shakira and Pique, who are expecting their second child together, couldn’t keep their hands off each other as they watched USA face off against Slovenia. The famous pair kept it casual for the sporting event, with The Voice coach Shakira sporting a simple black top and matching baseball cap and soccer star Pique in a white t-shirt.
Pique, 27, unexpectedly had some time off from his grueling soccer schedule, as coach Vincente del Bosque left the defender off Spain’s roster for the Euro 2016 qualifying match against Macedonia. In addition to Pique, who contributed to Spain’s disappointing run in the 2014 World Cup, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata were also axed from the roster.

Liverpool are used to the best. Perceiving themselves to be one of the biggest clubs in the world, and rightly so, Liverpool supporters feel that they are entitled to be served up a platter of the continent’s finest talent in every transfer window. There must be no room for overpaid has-beens, simply utilising the fortress that is Anfield as a medium for a quick buck. There should be no pandering to unknown quantities who simply don’t look as though they will cut their teeth in the top-flight of English football. The home of the five-time European Cup champions is the arena served only for the elite, which is why most supporters found themselves curiously scratching their head about some of their more recent signings.

Strange things can happen on transfer deadline day. Jim White pretends to be on the phone in the middle of broadcasting and is somehow proclaimed a legend; Julian Faubert somehow convinced Real Madrid to sign him, and Alan Pardew once stood flanked by Javier Mascherano and a particularly bemused looking Carlos Tevez with West Ham shirts.
It’s also a day for frantic phone calls, ludicrous over-valuations and the kind of deals that must have had everyone involved beetroot red with embarrassment in the years since. But the end of the transfer window is called silly season for a reason, and it’s all down to the lack of logic that meets over-excitement and hype in a perfect storm to lead to the likes of Fernando Torres moving to Chelsea for approximately £40m more than he turned out to be worth.

Harry Redknapp should probably know better. He brought Loic Remy to the club from under the nose of Newcastle United on the promise of more money, and now seems somewhat shocked that the striker has seemingly gone back on his promise not to leave when another big club came around.
Yes, Chelsea and Arsenal met the transfer release clause for the French striker, but that is no reason for the striker to move. He was merely shown the door, he doesn’t have to go through it.
It looks like Chelsea are now his most likely destination, as Arsenal have withdrawn their interest in the Qpr forward, with both sides having met his reported £10.5m. He was subsequently left out of Qpr’s squad to face Sunderland, and is expected to complete a deal sooner rather than later.

With Jose Mourinho’s squad looking as strong as any Chelsea team in recent memory, Blues fans will have good reason for looking forward to the release of FIFA 15 at the end of next month. After a strong campaign last season, there’s a good chance Chelsea will be among the highest rated teams in the game this year, particularly with such fearsome additions as Filipe Luis, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, not to mention the burgeoning talent of Eden Hazard and Andre Schurrle.
A number of last year’s best performers are likely to see a ratings increase, particularly in defence where Chelsea were the stingiest club in the league in terms of goals conceded. Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic both look due a nudge up a few points, while Cesar Azpilicueta’s emergence as one of the best full-backs in football should see his rating take a huge jump.

In our last Chelsea poll, you voted overwhelming in support of Chelsea’s ability to win the league this season. 88% of you think Jose Mourinho’s side stand a great chance of Premier League victory next May, while only 12% believe there is still work to be done.
Our next poll is a follow-up to an article posted yesterday related to Mourinho’s need to sell one foreign player from his squad in order to meet the Premier League’s quota for non-homegrown players for the season. To clarify, a Premier League squad is only allowed to have 17 players who are over 21 years old and not developed in England, aka have spent a minimum of three years playing in this country prior to their 21st birthday. Chelsea’s squad currently has 18 such players, meaning one will either have to be sold or spend the season twiddling his thumbs.

Manchester United last night agreed to a British transfer record breaking £59.7 million deal to sign Angel di Maria from Real Madrid. The move makes Di Maria the costliest player in English history, dwarfing the £50 million Chelsea splashed out on Fernando Torres back in 2011, and the £37 million United paid for Juan Mata in January – their previous highest outlay on a player.
Di Maria scored four goals last season – the same amount Nani, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Wilfried Zaha managed between them in 2013-14 – while he also provided 17 assists, more than any other player managed in La Liga. His arrival at Old Trafford will instantly transform a laborious midfield short on creativity, but is he worth the near-£60 million fee being quoted?

There seems to be widespread consensus that Chelsea are comfortable favourites to take the Premier League trophy at the end of the season. The Blues have a strong squad, bolstered by the addition of key signings Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, while possible rivals Liverpool lost their key player from last season and Arsenal and Manchester United continue to struggle in their rebuilding efforts. Their 3-1 win against Burley last Monday was certainly an impressive and controlled show of intent.
We know what the so-called experts think when it comes to Chelsea’s chances, but we thought we’d turn the question over to you to find out the opinion of the people who really count: the fans.

Over the years, Chelsea have signed a lot of high profile strikers who have struggled to live up to their potential: no fewer than half my list of 10 Players Who Stole A Living From The Club is comprised of men who never managed to fire Chelsea to the top as expected. Among all of these striking misfits, Fernando Torres stands out as not only the only player still at the club, but also the one who cost the most and has arguably failed more spectacularly than any among his undistinguished peers.
Arriving from Liverpool in the last minute of the 2011 January transfer window and costing a whopping £50 million transfer fee and £175k per week in wages, Torres looked off the pace and out of place from the start, enduring a run of 903 minutes until finally bagging his first goal in a Chelsea shirt. Subsequent seasons have scarcely gone any better,...

Chelsea flop Fernando Torres could be about to be shipped out on loan to As Roma as part of an attempt to bring striker Mattia Destro the other way, according to Espn. The Blues are keen on Destro and are reportedly prepared to use Torres as a makeweight in any deal to sign the striker from the Italian side.
Torres, who has scored just 20 in 110 Premier League appearances since completing his £50 million move from Liverpool in 2011, has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the summer arrivals of Diego Costa and former player Didier Drogba. Roma are believed to be interested in rescuing the Spaniard from his nightmare at SW6, providing they can strike an agreement on his £180,000-a-week wages.

We are slowly edging towards the 26th September release date for FIFA 15, as excitement levels increase by the day at the thought of getting our hands on the annual phenomenon. One of the most eagerly-anticipated aspects of the game is the player ratings. Which new signings will take the game by storm? Which players have improved or dipped since the previous year’s game?
For Liverpool fans, the release of FIFA 2015 will surely represent the best Reds side we have seen on the game for many years. Sure, the class of 2009, including Steven Gerrard, Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso and Fernando Torres in their prime was a great side, but it still probably wasn’t quite on a par with the current crop. Certainly not in terms of attacking brilliance anyway.
Their second-place finish in last season’s Premier League was a phenomenal achievement, and there were a number of outstanding performers in Brendan Rodgers’ team.

With the new Premier League season upon us part of the reason anticipation is so high (aside from the painful three month break) is because football fans across the globe are desperate to see the impact incoming transfers will have on their new clubs. Will the millions Premier League sides spend on bringing in new talent be worth it or will they go the way of Fernando Torres and fall hopelessly short of expectation? These new transfers will also have a huge impact on the way Premier League sides feel on FIFA 15, which is released on 26th September.
Though this season the Premier League sides can’t claim to have splashed the cash in the same way as La Liga teams (namely Barcelona and Real Madrid), there are still many talented players coming over to the most exciting league on the planet.

Chelsea overcame Real Sociedad with little difficulty in the final game of their pre-season ahead of next Monday’s Premier League opener against Burnley. Two goals in a thrilling first ten minutes were enough to ensure victory, both coming courtesy of new striker, Diego Costa, signed for £32m from Atletico Madrid over the summer.
An amusingly over the top introduction to the Chelsea squad for 2014/15 preceded kick-off, complete with pyrotechnics to warm the players up in the billowing rain. The biggest applause was reserved for returning hero Didier Drogba (out with an injury tonight but expected to return soon) and newcomer Costa, who justified his reception with a neatly taken goal within a minute. A precise through ball into the box from Ramires found the naturalised Spaniard, who tucked the ball into the far corner of the onrushing Enaut Zubikarai’s goal.

Chelsea’s 2-1 victory against Hungarian side Ferencváros was marred by striker Didier Drogba being taken off with an ankle ligament injury which early reports suggest may rule the Ivorian striker out for up to six months. If true, the injury will throw a major spanner in the plans of manager José Mourinho, whose striking options ahead of the new season would be limited to £32m new signing Diego Costa, untested in the Premier League, and the decidedly unprolific Fernando Torres, who has yet to score more than eight Premier League goals in any of his three and a half seasons at the club.
The injury was suffered following an innocuous collision with Ferencváros keeper Denes Dibusz in the 20th minute. The Ivorian landed heavily and required immediate treatment from the Chelsea medical team, but returned to the field shortly after. After struggling to shake the injury off,...

Liverpool can be a glorious place to ply one’s trade as a footballer. Drenched in sweat, and with the hamstrings starting to tighten, it is the renditions of solitude from the ever-loyal crowd that can see any player through to the final whistle. Whether the Reds are romping home by a comfortable margin, playing out a drab and uninspiring goal-less draw, or being humiliatingly plucked off by the opposition at will, the crowd never stop their vocal duty to their club.
With Liverpool starved of success in recent years, perhaps it is the fortress of Anfield that attracts so many of Europe’s brightest young talents, and allows them to flourish in the Premier League. However, for every world-class talent who owes their formative years to the Reds (step forward Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez), there are always...

In the grand scheme of Jose Mourinho’s achievements in world football, if he manages to convince anyone to part with any money at all – whether that’s in terms of a transfer fee or a slither of his unjustly gigantic wages – for Fernando Torres, it would immediately be deemed the greatest moment of his starry career to date.
That is the objective that faces the Portuguese manager, as his club’s transfer policy of buying as many emerging foreign stars as possible – without intention to ever play them in some cases – and the latest decision to bring Didier Drogba back to the club means that the first-team squad has one too many foreign players to comply with the Premier League and Champions League rules relating to the home-grown quota.

Manchester United chief-executive Ed Woodward has made yet another bold announcement this week, by insisting the 2012-13 Premier League champions can break the British transfer record this summer. No player on the market is too expensive, according to Woodward, and United could eclipse the £50 million Chelsea paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres in 2011.
This isn’t the first time this week that Woodward has hinted at the Red Devil’s apparently-unlimited transfer warchest, with the 42-year-old saying on Monday that manager Louis van Gaal “has no fixed transfer budget” when it comes to buying players during the current transfer market. And he today reiterated:
“I stand by what I said – there is no budget. We are in a very strong financial position. We can make big signings. Whether it’s a record or not doesn’t really resonate with us. What resonates is an elite...

Liverpool have some previous in the transfer market for misunderstanding the true nature of value: for every deal that sees them pocket £70m for Luis Suarez or £50m for Fernando Torres, there are countless that suggest an ineptitude in identifying the right targets. And though their work so far this summer has proved smart – particularly if they manage to add £8.5m Loic Remy to the squad too – in the past two years, they’ve over-spent on the likes of Ousmane Assaidi, Mamadou Sakho, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, and Tiago Ilori.
It’s no surprise then that when the opportunity to make some of their money back, the club leap at the chance, why is probably why Fabio Borini – a player deemed surplus to requirements after just 13 league games and a solitary goal – is going to cost Sunderland £3m more than Liverpool paid for him.

In terms of big-money signings, the Gunners have not had much to whet their appetite with in recent seasons. With every transfer window that slams shut, praying to God that their newly-acquired 21 year old striker from Guinea hits the ground running, while their posh city rivals welcome the biggest and best from around Europe, an air of jealousy was apparent. Having to fund a new stadium can take its toll on a club’s forthrightness in the transfer market, and that in turn, will have a knockdown effect on the amount of trophies they acquire. With the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie and even Thierry Henry plucked from thin air, with everything to prove to the gruelling English media, Wenger has been labelled ‘reluctant’ to dip his toes in what can be an unforgiving transfer market.
Last summer, there was a new wave of optimism circling the Emirates.

Earlier this week, Chelsea finally announced the £32 million signing of Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa. Costa arrives on a five-year deal worth a reported £150,000-a-week and becomes the London club’s third major signing of the summer, following Cesc Fabregas and Mario Pasalic.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho had been looking for a “killer striker” this summer after watching his strike force of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba struggle last season, and Costa looks as though he fits that criterion having netted 36 goals in 52 games in 2013-14.
Costa said he was “very happy” to join Chelsea and that he was excited about getting his playing career up and running in England following his four-year spell in the Spanish capital with Atletico. And as we prepare to acquaint ourselves with the Brazilian forward, how much do we know of Costa so far?

With Luis Suarez’s impending move to Barcelona looking increasingly likely to happen before the summer transfer window closes at the end of August, Liverpool look set to find themselves once more flush with the kind of cash that boosted their coffers when Fernando Torres made his own way out of the club. But rather than looking to the North East for a pony-tailed power-house with an extortionate price-tag, it seems that Brendan Rodgers is looking to invest the money early and smartly, by moving to make Lazar Markovic his fourth summer signing.
Hot on the tails of Emre Can, Rickie Lambert, and Adam Lallana, Markovic will complete his move to Anfield this week after a medical, according to Mike Whalley of Espn Fc, who states that the 20-year-old Serbian is “due on Merseyside to put the finishing touches to the transfer” in the “next few days.

Ever since the Roman Abramovich takeover of Chelsea football club in 2003, there have been just as many comings than goings during a decade of change at the London outfit.
The super-rich Russian oligarch has used his well-thumbed chequebook to bring some of the world’s greatest players to SW6, from Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole through to Fernando Torres and Andriy Shevchenko.
And, just as there has been a managerial merry-go-round with nine different bosses in ten years, so too has many a player come and gone, sometimes not for the better.
Whether they were turfed out, fell out with the manager or just simply opted for a different career path, here we take a look at 10 Players Who Probably Regret Leaving Chelsea.

After Liverpool striker Luis Suarez disgraced himself yet again and confirmed his status as a vampire, by biting centre back Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder, in Uruguay’s 1-0 victory over Italy on Tuesday – the third fellow professional footballer he has bitten in his career, after Psv’s Otman Bakkal and Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic – we started thinking…
If Suarez is a vampire, which other classic horror monsters could have been hiding in full sight amongst football’s ranks over the years?
The world of football boasts a wide variety of characters whose looks, traits and performances resemble some of the classic antagonists in movie history – namely the Universal Monsters. The classic Universal Monsters date back to 1923 and the classic era went on (with the likes of Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney, Lon Chaney Jr and Bela Lugosi) until 1960, but there have been more additions to the monster roster since then.

Despite recording impressive back-to-back wins against Liverpool and Manchester City last season, Chelsea were still unable to win their first Premier League title since 2010.
The Blues defeated the 2013-14 champions and runners up home and away and despite a late surge, were still unable to overhaul the two North West teams.
And a big part of the reason why is that Chelsea finished with the lowest goal difference (44) of the top three sides, with Liverpool (51) and City (65) outscoring the Londoners.
Liverpool and City netted an incredible 101 and 102 goals each last season compared to the 71 managed by Jose Mourinho’s men, who had striker issues throughout the campaign.
The problems riddling Fernando Torres persist, with the Spaniard scoring just five league goals, while Demba Ba clocked up the same tally in the Premier League with Samuel Eto’o getting nine.

Chelsea have triggered Diego Costa’s release clause and agreed a £32 million deal with Atletico Madrid to sign the striker this summer, according to the Daily Star.
The agreement now means Costa is free to discuss personal terms with the Blues and looks all set to triple his wages to around £150,000-a-week by joining the Stamford Bridge club.
Chelsea have been keen to wrap up a deal for the 25-year-old as early as possible with manager Jose Mourinho desperate to remedy his striking woes ahead of next season.

However, their squad is far from complete and in order to continue their progression under Mourinho they must invest in the Summer. Jose Mourinho may have claimed in his post-match press conference that Chelsea were always in control against a resilient Everton, but another uninspired display will give cause for concern after requiring a Tim Howard blunder in added time to secure the three points.
A foul by Jagielka on Ramires gave Lampard the chance to whip in a free-kick, where an sliding John Terry got enough of a touch on the ball to distract the American keeper into flapping what should have been a routine collection into his own net.
Everton can count themselves unlucky to lose, and perhaps even not to win after enjoying many of the game’s best opportunities in the first half. The match was played at a rapid pace, but where Everton’s defence coped comfortably with Hazard and Willian’s repetitive movement and reticence in releasing the ball, Chelsea struggled to contain the quick,...

Chelsea’s long-term problems with their strikers have been well-documented, and their search for a proven goalscorer looks set to continue into the summer. The Blues have recently given up on signing Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney as the England star is close to signing a new £300K a week deal at Old Trafford, according to The Mirror.
However, Jose Mourinho could end up calling David Moyes about another one of his players.
Javier Hernandez has made 141 appearances for Manchester United since signing for them in 2010 and has scored 58 goals, giving him a ratio of one goal every 2.4 games. When you factor in his 14 assists, it becomes clear that he is a better option up front than any of Chelsea’s current trio.
Fernando Torres has turned out 158 times for the Blues, scoring once every 3.4 games, while Demba Ba’s limited appearances have seen him produce a goal every 4.4 games.

Transfer deadline day is at last upon us and we’re guaranteed another typically-chaotic 24 hours as managers scurry around for last minute bargains and try to hold on to what they’ve got.

The Hammers have greater fitness worries; Mohamed Diame is absent with a knee injury, George McCartney has a neck problem and Joe Cole is out with a groin strain.
Joey O’Brien and Guy Demel may return to the squad, with Sam Allardyce also boosted by the loan signings of Marco Borriello and Antonio Nocerino.

Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have agreed a swap deal that could see striker Diego Costa arrive at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, according to the Daily Mail.
Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is on loan at Atletico, will stay in Madrid permanently as part of the proposal that would see Costa head in the opposite direction.
The 21-year-old stopper wants to stay in Spain and will only consider returning to west London if he is given assurances that he will be No.1.
Chelsea wanted to retain the services of the starlet despite the fact he has never played for them, but the Belgian has said he would prefer to by playing for a club that can offer him games.
Petr Cech is still very much No.1 under Jose Mourinho, and it is thought the Portuguese has no immediate plans to make Courtois his first-choice keeper.

Demba Ba has a chance to show he is not the latest forgotten man a Chelsea as Stoke visit Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
With Fernando Torres injured and Samuel Eto’o likely to be rested, Ba should start. New signing Mohammed Salah will not play, while Juan Mata will not feature for a final time before his move to Manchester United is confirmed.
Asmir Begovic could return from a broken finger in the Stoke goal in place of Jack Butland, while new loan striker John Guidetti (illness) could join Robert Huth (knee) and Andy Wilkinson (heel) on the sidelines.

Stoke City won their last meeting with Chelsea in December, but it was their first victory in 13 attempts. In among those encounters were ten Blues wins, including a 7-0 and 4-0.
Mark Hughes thus achieved something predecessor Tony Pulis never did by beating his former club. Now the Potters travel to Stamford Bridge in the last tie of Fa Cup fourth round weekend. Stoke reached the final in 2011, but were runners-up to Manchester City.
No team in England has dominated this competition like Chelsea in recent years. They have featured in four of the last seven Fa Cup finals, winning all of them. The first of those came in 2007 during Jose Mourinho’s first spell as Blues boss.
The Potters have lost four of their last six matches, but their single recent win came in the cup when they knocked Championship leaders Leicester City out in the last round.

We’re now well into the mid-season transfer window and clubs across the Premier League are looking for new players to help them in their individual battles this season.
At the top of the table it is still extremely close. Arsenal currently lead the way, swiftly followed by Manchester City and Arsenal. Liverpool can’t be ruled out yet and Tottenham could mount a late challenge, while it would be daft to write off defending Champions Manchester United at this stage.
The difference this season could be made by the January transfer window. Pundits have identified the need for signings in certain areas for all of the top teams and each manager will have their own ideas of exactly what they are looking for.
It’s very tight at the moment and the deciding factor on who comes out on top may just be down to...

Chelsea’s two-time player of the year, Spanish playmaker Juan Mata, is set to leave the club this week for a fee of around £37-40m to rivals Manchester United.
His replacement has already been signed in the shape of Basel winger Mohamed Salah for a reported £11m.
Good business, right? Chelsea make a profit of at least £26m on a player José Mourinho had no interest in using and would probably have languished on the bench for the remainder of the season. He’d been out of form this season anyway, and never took his defensive responsibilities seriously. Plus, remember that missed penalty in the Champions’ League final in 2012? Could have cost us the win. Clearly overrated.
You’ll be hearing a lot of that over the next few days as Mourinho apologists attempt to justify what could turn out to be a catastrophically bad deal for Chelsea.

Manchester United have had a bid, believed to have been in the region of £37 million, accepted by Chelsea for Spanish midfielder Juan Mata.
Mata will undergo a medical at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hospital later today while his father, Juan Snr., has flown in to England to complete the finer points of the transfer.
The arrival of the 25-year-old playmaker at Old Trafford will come as a boost to suffering United fans who watched on in despair as their season ended with defeat to Sunderland last night.
Chelsea fans meanwhile will have mixed feelings about Mata’s exit with the attacking midfielder twice being voted the club’s Player of the Year, and he was a popular figure on the terraces.
But the proceeds the Blues will get for the Spaniard will help them improve in one key area – up front – and that is good news for the Londoners.

Samuel Eto’o trebled his Premier League goal tally for Chelsea by hitting a hat-trick against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge that keeps the Blues hot on the heels of Arsenal.
David Moyes’s Red Devils slumped to their seventh league defeat of the campaign meanwhile, leaving their title defence all but over with 16 games to go. Javier Hernandez netted a consolation here, but United captain Nemanja Vidic saw red before the end. Rafael almost followed suit too.
Jose Mourinho made two changes to the Chelsea team that won at Hull. Ashley Cole and Fernando Torres made way as Branislav Ivanovic returned from injury in defence. Eto’o was preferred in attack and Cesar Azpilicueta switched flanks to left back.
Moyes meanwhile fielded an XI sporting three alterations from the league win over Swansea last time out. Darren Fletcher, Shinji Kagawa and Chris Smalling all dropped to the bench.

Manchester United travel to Chelsea on Sunday hoping for better than the bore draw the sides produced in August. David Moyes also knows that Jose Mourinho has never lost a home Premier League game in English football. No pressure then.
The Red Devils ship was steadied in their last outing as Moyes ended a run of three successive defeats by being injury-hit Swansea. Mourinho’s Blues meanwhile recorded five straight wins since another tepid goalless draw with Arsenal before Christmas.
United have only one victory in their last six against Chelsea, coincidentally a 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge in October 2012. Sendings off for Branislav Ivanovic and Fernando Torres proved pivotal as the Blues had comeback from 2-0 down to equalize before Javier Hernandez sunk the nine men.
If the recent encounters between these two top flight heavyweights...

Arsenal are the bookies favourite to sign out-of-favour former Newcastle United striker Demba Ba from Chelsea, according to SkyBet.
The Chelsea striker, who previously had spells at Newcastle United, West Ham United, and German side Hoffenheim is 2/1 to become an Arsenal player before the end of the transfer window, with Arsene Wenger desperate for striking cover following injuries to Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud.
Ba has floundered since moving to the London outfit twelve months ago, following a successful stint at Newcastle, which saw him net 29 league goals in 54 appearances in his 18 months on Tyneside. He’s only managed 3 league goals in 22 league appearances, and has struggled to break into the side under new boss José Mourinho, making only 8 appearances in the league this season, and has been linked with a number of sides after falling behind the resurgent Fernando Torres and new...

Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres scored the goals that took Chelsea top of the Premier League with victory at Hull City.
Steve Bruce reverted to ten of his starting XI from the Tigers’ last league encounter after making wholesale changes for the Fa Cup win at Middlesbrough. George Boyd replaced Robert Koren in the only alteration to the side that lost at Liverpool.
Jose Mourinho meanwhile made four changes from the victory at Derby County. Mark Schwarzer, John Oni Mikel, Samuel Eto’o and Michael Essien all dropped out. Regulars Petr Cech, Hazard and John Terry returned. Torres got the nod to lead the Blues attack.
Chelsea ground out these three points at the Kc Stadium after Hull’s encouraging start. Key saves were then made Allan McGregor, but the home defence was breached twice in the second half.
