Cinevolve Studios has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Alejandro Bellame Palacios' "El Tinte de la Fama" (The Color of Fame), Venezuela's entry in the Academy Awards' best foreign-language film category.
"La Fama" follows Magaly (Elaiza Gil) who, pressured by her husband, Arturo (Alberto Alifa), enters a TV contest for Marilyn Monroe look-alikes, hoping to win the prize of $25,000 to help them overcome their precarious financial situation. In the process of becoming the screen legend, Magaly suffers an identity crisis that mimics the life of the mythical blonde.
The deal, which encompasses all domestic and international rights for theatrical (excluding Venezuela), home entertainment, television, Internet and new media, was negotiated by Cinevolve CEO Arik Treston and president Nicole Ballivian and Totem Films. A limited theatrical release is planned later this year, with a home entertainment release to follow.
"We are very proud and thrilled to be distributing this wonderful title," Treston said.

NEW YORK -- Former Cinema Libre Studio execs Arik Treston and Nicole Ballivian are launching another specialty film distribution outfit, Cinevolve Studios.
Backed by private equity funding, the Los Angeles-based company is set to make its debut this winter with theatrical, DVD, digital, TV/PPV and international sales divisions. Film funding and production divisions are slated to begin operations next year.
Cinevolve is now in the process of acquiring indie features for distribution. Its mission statement, according to Ballivian, includes "open communications and transparency with its filmmakers, including filmmaker access to their film's financial information." The company plans to announce a marketing partnership with "a growing social-networking site" and hopes to develop distribution labels with outside production companies.
Treston was previously president of distribution at Cinema Libre, where he helped launch its DVD distribution division and oversaw the realease of such films as Tim Robbins' "Embedded Live". Ballivian served as the company's vp international sales, oversaw post-production on its features and worked on theatrical booking.
