They say that great art is often inspired by the artist's life, and "Always Sunny" has given us plenty of examples of this. Season 8's "Pop-Pop: The Final Solution" is a story about euthanasia that was inspired by the writers' own conflicting thoughts on the topic. As co-creator Rob McElhenny (who plays Mac) explained in a 2012 interview, "[The episode] was sparked somewhat by a conversation [sic] that I was having with Kaitlin [Olson, who plays Dee] where we were fast-forwarding in our lives, and trying to figure out if one of us was on life-support—those are conversations that we have to have."
Unlike the episode itself, this was a serious issue for the couple. "What do we want? Do we want to be Dnr? Do we want to be hooked up forever?" McElhenny explained. "We were having that conversation and I brought it up in the writer's room and then that's what sparked the conversation and we started thinking; okay,...

Things aren't looking too good for Alex at any age. CBS has pulled its Me, Myself & I TV show from the schedule, replacing it with 9Jkl and adding the second season of Matt LeBlanc's Man With a Plan. No “Bull,” CBS wants you to know that the freshman Michael Weatherly series is actually the No. 1 new show of the year in total viewers, over NBC’s lauded “This Is Us.”
“We congratulate them on their success, but we like winning,” CBS senior exec VP Kelly Kahl said. He also pointed out that even CBS’ “Blue Bloods” has a larger audience than any other drama on the other networks, except “This Is Us.”
“The Big Bang Theory” is the “Wayne Gretzky of comedy,” he noted, arguing that no other half-hour comes close in total viewers, which is why they’re big on spinoff entry “Young Sheldon.” The show was recently renewed for two more seasons, a negotiation that Moonves characterized as amicable.

A little over a year ago, the line of succession at "The Daily Show" was clear, and it was deep. If Jon Stewart were to step down — maybe to finally take that broadcast network late-night job he'd always been rumored for — then Stephen Colbert would get the job. If Colbert didn't want to leave "The Colbert Report," then John Oliver had just wrapped up a brilliant stint filling in for Stewart over the summer. And if Oliver was somehow unavailable, well... "The Daily Show" had a lot of talented people on that bench like Samantha Bee, Jason Jones and Larry Wilmore. And then... things got complicated. Oliver left to do "Last Week Tonight" for HBO — a decision he doesn't seem to regret in the slightest, based on the sheer joy on his face during each installment. David Letterman retired, and CBS moved quickly to hire Colbert to replace him. Wilmore...

National Geographic Channel has renewed its reality series “Life Below Zero” for a second season, and given the green light to the new competition series “Showdown of the Unbeatables.” “Showdown of the Unbeatables” will pit inventors and entrepreneurs against each other in a battle royale in which their inventions face off in a death match — for instance, the world’s strongest bombproof door against the world’s most powerful military cutting torch. Brian Unger (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) and Zane Lamprey (“Have Fork, Will Travel”) align themselves with opposing companies as they put their products to the test.

John Oliver leaving The Daily Show on December 19 for his own HBO show feels like a big deal: He's been on the show for seven years, and his style of righteous frustration gives the show some of its bite. As fill-in host over the summer, he proved he could anchor the show, too, making his absence all the greater. But Oliver is hardly the first person to move on from The Daily Show. Let's look back at every Daily Show contributor and correspondent who appeared on at least ten episodes during Jon Stewart's reign (hence no A. Whitney Brown and Brian Unger) but is no longer with the show. There are a lot of them!Dan Bakkedahl, 2005–07: Bakkedahl's one of those correspondents who seems much more familiar from his non–Tds work than his time on the show. You recognize him now from Veep, Community, and The Heat,...

The original How The States Got Their Shapes History Channel special was almost mind-bogglingly interesting. You'd think the subject, the origin of all those squiggly or straight lines on the Us map, would be of faint interest to anyone but to cartographers and gerrymanderers, but no! There are bizarrely fascinating histories and geologies behind all those lines we know by heart, like the weird bulb on top of Delaware or the baffling Maine-Canada border or the little hub at the bottom of Nevada. (Delaware's is called the Twelve-Mile Circle, Maine's is a compromise between watersheds, and Nevada's was taken from Arizona to give Nevada claim to the Colorado River.) If that isn't as fascinating as I made it out to be, maybe you have to hear it from Daily Show alum Brian Unger, who hosts the show.

As we celebrate the Fourth of July, PopWatch asked Brian Unger, host of History’s How The States Got Their Shapes (Tuesdays, 10 p.m. Et), to list his 10 favorite TV and film patriots. Here they are, in no particular order. Check out his list, then tell us who tops yours:
• Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman as Woodward & Bernstein, All the President’s Men: To the 18-to-24 year-old, unfamiliar demo — no, they were not a law firm. Armed only with a pen they saved the country from itself.
• Hal Holbrook in All the President’s Men: The Real Deep Throat and a national treasure.

History's "How the States Got Their Shape" is a no-miss at 10 Pm tonight. The juice is affable and charming host Brian Unger, notably of "The Daily Show" of years past. His narration and interaction with people all over makes him a natural and the series all the more enjoyable to watch. The series is a must for the entire family, as kids will be entertained as they learn about geographical politics (mostly over water access) and why states are shaped just so. This is a spirited and fun look at America, loaded with trivia and real history, as myths are debunked (cows did not make all the roads in Boston, and Hanover street was an Indian path...

G’day Zoners! I hope your all enjoying April Fool’s Day, and more importantly brushing up on your “Friday” lyrics so you can all sing-a-long with Stephen tonight. As much as I loathe that song I really hope Stephen can put the Tgi back in Friday – it was once my favourite day of the week. But I digress. This week in Six Degrees News Jon Stewart makes a cameo in “The Adjustment Bureau”, Jason Jones is co-starring in a new CBS comedy pilot, Lewis Black stopped by “The Late Late Show”, Mark Malkoff will be a guest on “Beer Diplomacy”, Amy Sedaris has a new iPad App, Conan talks about “Conan O’Brian Can’t Stop” and Movits! are touring Canada and The Us

Another week, another fantastic Sunny.
Tonight’s episode, the follow-up to last week’s, finds the Gang on the other side of marital bliss. Frank and Charlie are constantly fighting, Dee finds the man who cheated on his wife with her crashing at her place and Dennis simply cannot take the lack of freedom any more.
I was very happy to see the return Brian Unger as the lawyer and Andrew Friedman as Charlie’s creepy uncle Jack, who, as it turns out, is also a lawyer. A really, really terrible lawyer.
Given Charlie’s past interactions with Jack, is it safe to assume that Jack is the inspiration behind “Night Man”?
It’s nice to see Sunny stray a little from self-containment. Things that have happened in past episodes are starting to have an effect in present episodes. In the past, the writers seemed to have little regard for...

Samantha Harris is joined by comedian Brian Unger and CBS legal anaylist Lisa Bloom to tackle today's topic: Is Elin out for revenge? "It's not revenge, it's justice!" Lisa exclaims. "Of course she should get half. I think she should get about 95 percent, frankly." Brian counters, saying, "Lisa, you're being ridiculous!" But the funnyman is only kidding. Watch the video to see why he says Tiger should be "quaking in his golf shoes."

It's not much of a secret that The Jay Leno Show's ratings have plateaued, but apparently -- and here comes a leftover Halloween scare -- its writing has as well. Thunder-crash! In last night's episode featuring Taylor Lautner, Jay sent out correspondent Brian Unger (formerly a Kilborn-era Daily Show correspondent) to ask Los Angeles pedestrians about how "green" they are. Hilarious straight from the start, as you can guess. But the head-scratchiest moment occurs when Unger mocks the cleanliness of the Los Angeles River, reusing a joke that Conan loosed within his first hours in California.

The new The Jay Leno Show debuts tonight and brings with it everyone’s favorite funny friendo, Liz Feldman. The AfterEllen.com favorite and out comedian will appear on the show as a correspondent, one of a series of young comic tapped by Jay to be showcased on his new series.
Liz talked about her role on the The Jay Leno Show wearing a familiar blue blazer, albeit a darker one than we know and love from her This Just Out With Liz Feldman segments. The video isn’t embeddable, so click this link to view it and then return right quick so we can talk about it. (Note: Nothing is wrong with your volume, sound gaps are just part of the original clip.)
She still has a blue blazer, albeit a darker one. I also like how she has cleverly managed to still get a rainbow flag in there — note the shirt.

What would be the best way for Jay Leno to rebut criticism that by adding five "comic correspondents" to his new late-night endeavor, he's ripping off The Daily Show? Why, by adding seven more! In addition to the already announced D.L. Hughley crop, Leno's hiring Liz Feldman, Brian Unger, Nick Thune, Owen Benjamin, Marina Franklin, Sebastian Maniscalco and Ross "the Intern" Mathews. Why, he's almost got one correspondent per car! [THR]...

The Jay Leno Show is set to debut on NBC on Monday, September 14 and whether you are excited or disgusted with this 'future of television' idea that is his show, chances are you're probably going to tune in, at least for those first few episodes. The buzz generated around this odd concept that will combine topical humor, celebrity guests, street correspondents, and God only knows what other comedic elements has been at an all-time high lately, and many reports are confirming the facts that even if Leno comes in dead last every night of the week in ratings, his show could still be profitable and lead NBC forward into the future. Of course, that doesn't mean that his ratings don't matter, but exactly what ratings NBC hopes for or expects is a question they haven't seemed willing ot answer yet. So is the future of NBC on that any of...
