Exclusive: Buffalo 8 has acquired streaming and VOD rights to Int. Hallway/Night, an existentialist dark comedy from actor-director Billy Zane (Titanic), out of the Cannes Film Festival. Details as to the release plan haven’t been disclosed.
Co-written by Zane, Andre Alves, Nick Loeb and Hugo Melo, pic follows a film director (Zane) who checks in on his actress wife, who he suspects is having an adulterous affair, while she shoots a horror film in Georgia. He soon finds the murderous plot of the film parallels his darkest fantasies of revenge, and one day during production wakes to find he has entered the film itself as the jealous and murderous husband in a comedic, meta telling of a doomed love triangle set in purgatory.
“Int.Hallway / Night explores the universal themes of infidelity and the variety of ways one processes the seemingly inescapable slide,” said Zane in a statement to Deadline.

Exclusive: Producer Kate Cohen (Jane Got a Gun) has tapped Oscar nominee Lesley Paterson (All Quiet on the Western Front) and Simon Marshall to script a feature adaptation of Viktor Frankl’s classic treatise, Man’s Search for Meaning. For Paterson’s husband and writing partner, Marshall, the project has taken on particular resonance of late, having just been diagnosed with late-stage pancreatic cancer.
Translated into 50 languages, with over 16 million copies sold, Frankl’s riveting account of his time in the Nazi concentration camps, and his exploration of the human will to find meaning in spite of unspeakable adversity, has offered solace and guidance to generations of readers since it was first published in 1946. At the heart of his work is the conviction that the primary human drive is not pleasure, as Freud maintained, but rather the pursuit of meaning.

Wondering what you’ll watch when The Hunger Games franchise is over? We’ve got some ideas…
As well as sequels, remakes, and comic book adaptations, there’s one kind of movie you can feel fairly sure is going to keep popping up at a cinema near you: young adult adaptations. Stories about teenagers are still doing big business in the book trade, and thanks to Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games, Hollywood is convinced of the genre’s appeal, too.
A couple of new franchises have already been kicked off – there’s still at least another Divergent sequel on the way, and another Maze Runner sequel – but what’s more interesting is the list of Ya novels that have been optioned and may soon be taking over the box office. Now, not all of the adaptations on this list will see the light of day,...

Lindsay Lohan is back on screen for the first time in five years – as Liz Taylor. It's a combination that shows the contrast between a real star and a celebrity better known for her rehab
On Sunday night, in the self-proclaimed "television event of the year", Lindsay Lohan will appear in Liz & Dick, playing Elizabeth Taylor in a movie for the Us cable channel Lifetime about her love affair with Richard Burton.
This is Lohan's first starring role in five years, but the fascination surrounding Liz & Dick has little to do with any hope of a great performance. This, it seems, is the first movie to be explicitly marketed around the disastrous life of its own star, making it an indictment of contemporary celebrity as funny as it is upsetting.

Disney has taken the unusual step of hiring veteran consultant Valerie Van Galder to handle the marketing of the fourth movie in its flagship film franchise, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."
Considering its importance, the move is likely to be perceived in the industry, fairly or not, as a sign that Disney lacks full confidence in marketing chief M.T. Disney has had a tough summer with live-action films, with two of its disappointments -- "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" -- produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

Last weekend, like a lot of other moviegoers, Steve Martin's Inspector Clouseau lined up to buy a ticket to "Wall-e." He struggled several times to pronounce "I would like a ticket for 'Wall-e' " only to learn that the show was sold out. Undaunted, the intrepid inspector snuck into the theater, where he inadvertently sliced his way through the movie screen before tiptoeing offstage.
Martin's filmed appearance in front of screenings of "Wall-e" was part of an unusual customized teaser trailer for "The Pink Panther 2," the MGM/Columbia production that Sony is releasing Feb. 6. In a variation of the same trailer that appeared last month, Clouseau similarly mangled the pronunciation of "Kung Fu Panda."
When it began planning the campaign, the Sony team, headed by creative advertising executive Loren Schwartz, knew it wanted to do a special shoot rather than just cull footage from the upcoming film. For 2006's "Pink Panther," Martin had done a special PSA urging theatergoers to turn off their cell phones.
The revived "Panther" has turned into a family-friendly franchise; thanks in part to a PG rating, the last film grossed $82 million domestically.
"So we wanted to get up early in the summer with strong kids titles because we wanted to position this one even more strongly as a family film than the last one," said Valerie Van Galder, co-president of worldwide theatrical marketing at Sony.
Although "Panther" had completed filming, "Steve was excited about the idea," Van Galder said. He and producer Robert Simonds immediately starting rewriting the storyboards. Harald Zwart, the film's director, helmed the shoot a little more than a week before "Panda's" opening, working with Steve Pollard of Workshop Creative.

When Valerie Van Galder, president of marketing at the Columbia TriStar Marketing Group, introduced TriStar Pictures' Running With Scissors last week at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre, it marked a significant moment in the marketing executive's career. Before stepping into her current position, Van Galder served an 18-month tenure as president of Sony's TriStar Pictures. Scissors, Ryan Murphy's adaptation of Augusten Burroughs' memoir, which Sony Pictures will release Friday, was the first film she greenlighted. The R-rated drama, which stars Annette Bening, reflects Van Galder's tastes: quirky, sincere and artistic. Van Galder had barely settled into the top production job at TriStar when Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairman Jeff Blake plucked her to run Sony's domestic marketing operation. She immediately moved from developing films to managing a marketing staff of 100 that handles about 25 releases a year.
